Some sad news from our household. We had to put Wesley, the one laying on my tummy, out of his misery three weeks ago. He put up a strong fight against diabetes, hyprthyroidism, and kidney failure for two years. He started to take a turn for the worse so we took him to the vet and they found lung cancer. That was on a Friday and by Saturday night he was so uncomfortable that we could not watch him suffer anymore. One of our close friends told us that putting a loved one (pet) out of their misery is the best gift we can give them after all the unconditional love they give us. We had him for almost 19 years and we miss him tremendously but thankfully we still have the other two, Winnie and Penny. I bet you all can guess who they were named after. Think bear and Rescuers.

We will miss you and love you forever Wes........

I am so sorry for your loss. :sad1:

JoJo the DISDog has had a rough couple of months but is doing better. My DW and I have already begun the "discussion" though knowing that it will be much sooner than we care to think about. He is over 17yo. :sad2:

Good luck and I am sorry that you are going through this. It is not easy. Our thoughts are with you.

All of this talk about those of you who have lost a recent family member really makes me sorry for your loss, however on the flip side, my DW (Pooh_Girl) and I are actually about to acquire our first "addition" to the family! We have placed a deposit on a planned mixed breed of Shih-Tzu and Bichon Frise. I think they're called Shichons or Zuchons or I've even seen them called "Teddy Bears". There is a breeder who is expecting a litter any day now and we have first pick of the litter!! :goodvibes We've decided if we get a male we're going to call him "Stitch" and if we get a female, "Bella" like Bella Notte from Lady & the Tramp. Anyway, here is a picture of what they look like. Hopefully by Christmas I can add our picture of our little fur ball. :lmao:

first of all to wkrider & loopner67, I am so sorry for your loss and I just want to say I so feel your pain...
It will be 3 weeks tomorrow since we had to send our beloved dog "Cookie" to pet heaven...and other than losing my mother in 1999 this was the hardest thing I have ever done...she is the white dog pictured above... she was almost 15 years old and we had her for 14 years...my daughter adopted her from the pound in 1994 the day day before they were going to put her to sleep...
my daughter was 9 years old at the time...when we moved to Florida from California in 1999 "Cookie" sat in the back seat with my daughter all the way here... the dog pictured with her is Dixie who belonged to my husband when I met him in 1999...in 2000 when we started dating Dixie and Cookie became inseperable...when we had to let Cookie go I wasn't sure Dixie was going to stay with us... for the first week she wouldn't eat or even get down off the couch...she would just lift her head when we came home and as soon as she saw it was "just us" she just layed back down...it was so sad...I'm happy to say she is eating again, but she is still not quite the same

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I am sorry for your loss, sounds like she was a good friend.

Thank you for the kind words. I'm also sorry to hear about your loss and wkrider's loss. It's been a very long time since I've lost a pet and I was really shaken by it. She couldn't walk up stairs very well anymore, but she came up to our bedroom to be with us and died right before our eyes. WOW, that was so tough, but I was honored that she came to us. She will forever be in our hearts and in our memories.

I think we're getting a new kitty in October after we're back from our WDW trip. I've even decided that we should name the new kitty, Daisy. We had a Cleo (okay, well Cleo was the fish in Pinnochio, but still), then we had a Figaro (Figgy). We *have* to stay with the Disney theme, right? :wizard:

Here are some of our pets. 6 cats, 2 dogs...we have our hands full! Unfortunately, don't have pix of all of them on this computer.

This is Snuffaluffagus (Snuffles).
