Photobucket

Another vote for smugmug.

Now if only someone will write a Lightroom plugin that will upload develped versions of my photos to Smugmug, that would be the "cat's you know what" (not sure exactly what that means, but I think its supposed to be a good thing).

Thanks everyone, really helpful input. I guess I better settle for the night at the computer and problem-solve my upload woes because smugmug seems to be a real favorite!

Another thought is flickr.com. I use both that and smugmug :D I am slowlying digging flickr.com more for a personal use. I love my smugmug for the professional use.

Is anyone else having problems with them right now? Mine keeps saying fatal error an dI've never had a problem with them before.

Yes, they are having some sort of issue right now. It is interfering with one of the pictures in this weeks contest too. It usually doesn't take them to long to fix whatever the issue is.

Maybe someone here can help me. The last 4 times I tried to upload pictures
to Photobucket, it shows only 1/2 of the picture was actually uploaded. I'm doing everything the same as before when it worked so I don't get it. It's been about a month since it's worked correctly. I'll post one of the pictures. Hopefully it will show the way I see it in photobucket so you can help me. Thanks.

Hi! I'd like your opinions about Photobucket, please!

I tried twice today to upload a video clip onto Photobucket, and both times the clip does not show on my account. Now, I received an email stating that I have almost overshot my bandwith for the month. Not a big deal - I just won't upload anything else.

But two things have come to my attention - now they're trying to sell me a pro account where I can do whatever I want, AND make my photos private. I never knew until now that anyone could log on and see everything that I have posted, even though there's nothing exciting on there. It just kinda creeps me out knowing that anyone can look into it and even order photos from it.

The only thing I use it for is to post stuff on the DIS, which I am kinda addicted to!

So,

  • Do you think that this "pro account" is a ruse? Do you use it? Why/why not?
  • Is there another service that protects your privacy without you having to pay for it?
  • Should I just not worry about it?

Any thoughts & opinions will be most welcome.

If you are going to pay, I believe most people would point you to smugmug. I do not have anything at a high enough resolution to worry about someone printing from my photobucket.

I only had a handful of pictures on photobucket when I moved to smugmug. The account has since been deleated for non use.....

I agree if you going to pay there are much better sites than photobucket

i had a pro account last yr but let it expire, no reason except i don't upload video and have tons of bandwidth without paying for it...

however unless they messed up and didn't remove something after i went back to free, even non pro accounts you can pass word though...i know that for sure since i had some photos i wanted my daughter to see and she couldn't get into my account without the password.

I use photobucket and resized my photo, not realizing it would resize all past posts. Nowit's really small. Can't see how to reverse and make larger. Does anyone know how I can fix that?

Thanks~
Renee

I'm far from a photobucket expert but I don't think you can go back once you resize smaller. You will probably have to upload the photo again.

Whenever I go too small, I just reload the picture. It says once the picture has been resized, it's permanent. ;)

if you need a small one for something but want a big copy for others you can have as many of the same photos as you want downloaded..it's easier to make sure you get the same one if you put something like "little photo" in the actual name before you download it so the right one shows up . occasionally i have had problems having the wrong one open if the names are really similar. but yeah resizing is permanent

Recently Photobucket started producing 800x602 results when users attempt to resize to 800x600.

Unless there is strong opposition, I'd like to ignore that for purposes of the 800x600 limit on entries in the photo contests. It's just not worth the effort.

Your the boss, whatever you want to do is fine with me. I don't think that 2 px on the side is going to give anyone an advantage anyway.

If you aren't checking each of the 100 + entries (which seems to be how this week is going too) for those extra 2 pixels, what are you going to do with your free time:bored: ...

I guess you could read War and Peace:thumbsup2

I think it's wise to cut some slack, despite the tremendous advantage this will give to those getting 2 extra pixels in width!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

It's when it starts resizing to 800x604 that I would get worried!

Thanks again for your time an patience in running these increasingly popular contests!
