Photo sharing: Zoos

Great pics Amy.
We live in Greensburg, and this has inspired me to take DS (age 5)to the zoo this year. He knew that some baby animals were born there and wanted to see them. Last time we were at the zoo the tank for the polar bears was built, but the bears hadn't arrived yet. I do like the zoo, but hate the drive into the 'burgh due to rode work, but after seeing your pics, I think it will be worth the effort !!
Thanks !!

Howdy neighbor! We live in Monroeville, so I know what you're saying about the road work! Do NOT go on the weekend - the Parkway is horrible when they take it down to one lane (and sometimes closed completely). And make sure you go early in the morning, esp. to see the baby elephants. They're only out until 10:30 so they don't get sunburned.

Wow! I'm right in between you two---Irwin! Small world! (After all...) The elephants are so cute.

hello neighbors-i'm right outside of irwin, live in sewickley twp.NOT SEWICKLEY. havent been to the zoo since my 17 yr old was in 2nd grade..now i want to take a day to do some zoo pics..those are some great shots amy- thanks for sharing!

Cool pics, we are from Darlington, (near beaver) so hi neighbors! We were there monday, and got to see the little ones up close, they were both inside and sleeping, and as soon as we got in the elephant house, the trainers started feeding, so it was really cool, they both started playing and running. :lmao: We have zoo passes, and have been about 4 times this summer, and still haven't seen the darned baby tiger.

Hello neighbors! I live near Mt Pleasant/Scottdale, so I'm not far from any of you.

Nice pics. I especially like the butterfly pic...the colors are so vibrant.

What camera/lens were you using?

I just ordered my first DSLR today (a Sony A300 with the 18-70mm kit lens). It's going to be delivered in a couple of days, and I'm SO excited! I still want to buy a decent zoom lens though, but I'm not sure of which one I want yet.

I love the zoo, but I haven't been for a couple of years. I'll definitely have to make a trip after I get my new camera.

Loved your pictures! The babies at the zoo couldn't of been cuter and they made me homesick. My husband and I live in the Washington, D.C. area, but we're originally from Mt. Pleasant and Latrobe. We've lived here for 19 years, but we always refer to the Pittsburgh area as HOME!

Great pictures!

We just went to the zoo last week. We live near Belle Vernon, PA!

Wow - there sure are a lot of us DIS-ers who live around Pittsburgh! Maybe one of these days we can have a DIS meet and get together?

Sherry - I use a Canon S3 IS - just LOVE that camera!:lovestruc

I have the older version of that camera...the Canon S2 IS. However, I've never been able to get good macro shots with it, like your butterfly pic. Other than that, I really like the camera...especially the 12x zoom. I'm going to be listing it on ebay soon though, because I just ordered a DSLR yesterday (Sony A300).

There are a lot of us from the area here. (I'm humming "It's A Small World" to myself.) We should all get together sometime, and do lunch or something.

We have 2 baby elephants at our zoo. Here are a couple of pictures I took this weekend.

I LOVE that 2nd photo where the Suri and Angelina have their trunks entwined! I was at the zoo about a month ago and got some great photos, but not one like that! Aren't they the cutest things?

Wanted to share a few from the zoo. All taken with D50 and 70-300mmVR. All thru glass except the hawk and the wildebeest.
