Photo Sharing: Ultra Wide Angle

I wish we had stuff such as this in Florida. But I think you need actual mountains -- not just Space, Splash or Big Thunder -- to make it happen. We're fresh-out of those!

Anyone who loves photography really needs to make a point of visiting Colorado, Utah, South Dakota, Wyoming and Arizona. It's a marvel to behold.

I'm loving your shots MrCricket!

Don't forget British Columbia and Alberta here in Canada. I love being able to look out my office window and see the mountains everyday.

I agree ... yet paradoxically, any time I have the opportunity to take a vacation, I cannot imagine any place I'd rather go than Walt Disney World -- even though there are other places (such as the ones you mentioned) that I would truly like to see.

I am willing to compromise and go somewhere else that happens to contain a Disney theme park. I really would like to see Japan, even though I think you can get to the moon just as quickly. A recent installment of the Wedway Radio Podcast impressed upon me how awesome Tokyo Disneyland would be to visit. Apparently, the Oriental Land Company essentially chose the best elements of Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom and mixed them together into a feast for Disney fans who can manage to go. In lots of ways, it exceeds either US park alone -- except for Tomorrowland, which still has the sterile, white concrete look (and that might appeal to some purists). And who wouldn't want to visit Paris or Hong Kong, given the chance?

And I haven't even managed to get to Anaheim yet!

Ahhh... the price you pay for living in FL!

We live in Missouri and my favorite vacations have been the long westward drives we've taken through the mountains and countless national parks between here and the west coast. The best part is that at the end of all that natural beauty....... we go just a little farther.......... and voila......... Disneyland!

My wife has promised me a trip to Disneyland at some point. She used to live just down the street -- close enough to sit out on her balcony in the evenings and watch the fireworks. And she still has friends in the area, so we'd have a place to stay when we go. But she wants to drive out there, which means we'd probably need a ten-day vacation or longer to make it worth doing. In truth, I like the idea of driving too -- why not cross the country to get there? But as I want to experience Disneyland and spend some time getting photos out the wazoo, I figure we'd need at least five or six days in the parks. And there's no way I'd try to drive across country with a 20-month-old baby. As sweet and agreeable as he generally is, that's way too much to expect of a baby, I think. So -- we'll wait a little longer ...

Anyway, I digress ... back to the UWA showcase!

From my January 20th week trip, once again had some opportunities to put the Tamron 10-24mm through some workout. Starting off with some night shooting, ultrawide style, through Epcot's World Showcase. The skies were really wild - very low cloud/fog from daytime storms as a cold front passed through - it went from 80s the day before to 40s that night - and the lights were bouncing off those low banks of cloud and fog for some real wild colors:

I am loving lurking around on these photo threads. I am wondering, though, since you mentioned that you do not like post-processing, what settings did you use to get these fabulous night shots!?!? I am like you and would rather not have to do a whole lot of computer time. I'm very new to this!!!!

After lots of advice from fellow disboard folks, I bought the Tamron 10-24 and just got back from a trip through the UK. Here are some first attempts with the wide angle, let me know your thoughts/advice. I'm heading for three weeks at the World this Sunday so anything you can share would be appreciated. :thumbsup2

Thanks so much. I was hoping you would comment. It was a lot of your advice along with Zackiedog, UKCatfan, ChiSoxKieth, Todd Hurley and MarltonMom that helped me to get those captures. You guys rock. I'll see what I can do in the parks starting next week! :thumbsup2

Well, you did great! And now that you got to practice on the UK...... you should be all ready when you hit the World. Have a great trip!

Very nice! Getting the hang of using an UWA lens can be a little tricky, but you seem to have a great handle on it already! I especially like this shot of Jedburg Abbey.

Thank you sir. By the way, I've downloaded you essays on dark ride shooting and will be using your tips to try for some in ride captures on this trip, as well as playing with the wide angle. I'm sure my family will dis-own me before the trip is through :goodvibes

Oh, and that picture of the poly sunrise....awesome!! :thumbsup2
