It's been a while since I've been on this board. I came looking for a tripod recommendation and stumbled across this thread. Thanks for starting it, Tom... I love how you take photos from unusual angles, and I love your photos of Wishes. I (ironically) placed an order for a Tokina 11-16mm the other day and am anxiously awaiting its arrival (from B&H, Nikon mount). I'm hoping to learn how to use it before I head to WDW next month. Everyone has such great photos... it's great to see what you've done with your UWA lenses. It gives me some ideas, though I'm surely setting myself up for disappointment as my photography skills are just fair, and I "only" have a D50.

All of your photographs are simply amazing. My favorites are of the entrance to Swiss Family Treehouse, Wishes, the Confectionery, and the one with Cinderella's castle on the left and Cinderella (fountain) on the right. But this one above also really caught my eye. Did you prop your camera on anything or just hold it? I don't imagine there's a tripod that short. Also, how were you able to get the narrow depth of field on some of your shots (is "bokeh" the right term?). e.g. the wing nut and the hanging telephone in the abandoned building. I thought with the UWA, much of the image is in focus? No? I'm still learning...

Carol- Thanks for your comments. It is possible to get some focus isolation with an ultrawide lens- although not as easy as it is with a fast prime lens. Aside from shooting wide open- getting as close to your subject as possible to focus will help considerably. Especially considering the Tokina has a constant f2.8 it should be no problem. Just remember to compose UWA shots with a distinct forground, middle-ground, and background when possible.

As for the bicycle picture- pretty sure I just set the camera on the ground and propped up the lens on the strap.

Stupid Hat. Full frame comes pretty close! I actually could have backed up more but the group was getting restless so I did this quick before a full fledged revolt started. Trees would have blocked more too.

I took pics on Soarin' too.
I just strapped myself in, and had my camera strap around my neck...didn't try to hide it.
The CM didn't say anything and I made sure all exterior lighting was off...just like I do on all dark rides.
