Very nice Mike. I love that Jiko angle - I never thought of taking that shot from that angle before - but it's very interesting - might need to copy that idea from you someday!

BTW - where's that mural in WPB? I can't figure it out...I go there often but don't recall seeing it.

Thanks Zack. Feel free to borrow that angle, I borrowed it from Mark Walter on Flickr :rotfl2:

I don't recall the street name but it is like 3 or 4 blocks south of Clematis sort of off Olive I think it is. Only reason I discovered it was I park down the street by chance a few months and remember. If your on Flagler driving south from Clematis go past the amphitheater one block and go west. Cant miss it :thumbsup2

Thanks. I like those urban style shots sometimes, but we don't have much in the way of proper 'urban' down here...that's the closest I've seen. Not that we don't have some, uh, "questionable" areas of town around here, just that they rarely have that lived-in, classic big-city urban style and flavor. Having lived in NY, New Orleans, and L.A., I've always been around gritty urban cities with flavorful old burroughs and sections. Even Miami has some cool spots...but the Broward/Palm Beach corridor is not quite there!

Howdy everybody!

I haven't been on the boards in a while. Not a whole lot to report but I'll be going to WDW for a week in mid November. I also booked a trip to DL in January. So I'm excited to take tons of pics.

In a strange and unexpected move I purchased an a6000. I was actually thinking very seriously about buying a Fuji x100 or x100s; however, I feel the a6000 would be a better and more flexible camera for a lot less money. I'm waiting for the a6000 to arrive in the mail so I haven't played with one yet. However, ever since buying a handful of Rokinon lenses my photography style has changed dramatically. I rarely use autofocus anymore. I'm much more "ranger finder" minded now. I slow down and take my shots methodically instead of running and gunning with autofocus. Actually, I've found manual focusing to be surprisingly quick and easy thanks to Sony's EVF and Focus Peaking. Honestly it's one of the main reasons I stick with Sony. Manual focus lenses + EVF & Focus Peaking = Pure fun. It's has reignited my passion and drive for photography.

Ironically, in spite of the a6000's auto focus, my interest is in manual lenses. I just purchased my first Voigtlander. I bought the Nokton 40mm f1.4. While I'm not crazy about the e mount I think it is one of the best options for adapting lenses. Ultimately, I want to pick up an FE camera (though not anytime soon). Any MF lenses I use now can translate beautifully to an FE camera. A 40mm f/1.4 on a a7s would be wonderful for me.

As for the future of the a mount... I have no idea. I want to believe it will survive but my gut tells me it's not to be. I've stopped buying mount glass because of it. I will still buy a mount Rokinons since a simple adapter will let me use them on my e mount without issues. But it is hard to drop $950 for a Sigma 50mm f1.4 Art on a dying mount.

I agree with Havok, the Nikon 750 looks like an amazing camera. I'd love to have one but jumping to Nikon is expensive! If Nikon ever gets focus peaking and EVF as good as Sony I will jump ship. But then I couldn't use my manual lenses (at least not the M Mount). So for now Sony is still my camera company, at least for several more years.

Animagic, I think you would thoroughly enjoy the x100s. Especially if you could live with the 35mm view.

The A6000 looks great too. I would like to check out the EVF on it. I just love the controls on the Fuji.

So what is the over/under of Harry popping up here on the threads with an A6000 in the next few months? :rotfl:

Well, I'm out of Sony Alpha. Didn't mean to leave yet.. but told someone on a message board that I was considering leaving, and next thing I knew, he was depositing my asking price into my paypal.

I did a last day of shooting today, and still have some lenses (and flash and accessories) to sell, if anyone is interested.

Havoc's Minolta 200mm 2.8 is on my NEX-7. :)

Last week I purchased Havoc's Minolta 200mm 2.8 and today it arrived! I excitingly ran home for lunch, slapped it on my NEX-7 (with the Sony LA-EA1 adapter (no mirror/autofocus)) and took a few test shots.

First, here's how it looks on the camera.

I was pleasantly surprised how "small" and light the lens was. It makes a great package with the NEX-7. Very easy to grab and go. The middle of the lens "slides" up to expose the manual focusing dial. I was worried how that would work on the NEX after reading a few reviews of the lens. My fears however were overblown.

The manual focusing is smooth and integrates with camera's focus peaking extremely well. The tri-nav controls make this a treat to use full manual. I purchased the lens eager to match pro-quality glass to the NEX-7 sensor, but expected a challenge operating it. Not so at all.

A couple "test" shots. Both at f/2.8 with the first at ISO 800 and the photo of my dog at ISO 200. Shot it RAW with minimal PP in LR.

This weekend I'm back to Annapolis for another water polo tournament which will put this baby to a good test.

I feel like my baby has grown up and moved away from home... and is now sending me a post card...

Fractal, use it in good health. As you see, this lens really does have something special.

For some reason, I thought you were going to be using it on the A7. On the NEX-7, you're obviously getting 300mm of reach. If you use the teleconverter, that's 600mm... So you really are getting a heck of a lot of reach in a fairly compact body. (But the teleconverter will take away from IQ, and will slow the lens by 2 stops).

If anybody is in the market for a Minolta 17-35... it's my last Sony/Minolta A-mount remnant.

Picked up an old Minolta 28-80mm true Macro for $15. Tried it out in the front yard this evening. It wasn't the easiest thing to use hand held, especially when I was squatting down to get the mums. My hit rate was about 30%.
