I also tried to PM you once I thought you were supposed to be back---but alas, you inbox was full so I wasn't allowed.

I was practising patience...considering how much I'm procrastinating the tax work I need to get done it's amazing I wasn't bugging him!

at times I had to remind myself that I wasn't shooting football and slow down..

it's going to take a while to actually fine tune all of them..

I'm hopiing to get it done before I go back, I bought annual passes for WDW, SeaWorld And the Space Center..

I have so many pictures that I need to try processing - pretty much all that I've shot since getting the A700!

Once you get that annual pass then you're obligated to use it as much as possible - I know I'm trying this year!

that's Ok, 13 days on disney property and I never stayed to watch fireworks..

That's just so wrong. I hope it's 'cuz you had other more interesting things going on.....but I'll just say again....that's so wrong.

I'm ashamed to say this---but I've never seen SpectroMagic! I can't wait to see it on our upcoming trip to WDW. I love the shot of the seahorses, the color is great.

Spectro is a great parade! (and much more understandable to not see since it's not every night - did I mention it's so wrong to not see the fireworks at least once in 13 days! )

I agree - love the colors on the seahorses and the DeVine shot posted earlier is another great one!

I just batch processed using the Sony software and there are a lot I won't touch again, but some do need tweaking..

for some reason I just couldn't get in the mood to watch the fireworks...

most of my nights were spent seeing Fantasmic, that is my favorite..

the 3rd week I had decided that I would go to the magic kingdom my last day,{Friday} and end the trip with the fireworks, Thursday night my daughter called and told me that she had taken off work Friday so we could go to the space center... spending the day with her was much more important to me, than seeing fireworks, and then we stayed to see the rocket launch, so it was really cool...


I went to AK twice just to shoot DeVine, I got some shots of her that I really like, she really played up to my camera..

I was on you tube yesterday and found video of DeVine falling, it was kind of scarey

I took a look at the DeVine video - that was scary!

A rocket launch would be very cool - I'd like to catch a space shuttle launch in May. I'm hoping the delay of the last one doesn't push the next out.

My main processing delay is just taking the time to go thru and toss out the non-keepers and tweak anything that might need it. Partly I need a new computer - my 3 yo ultra portable laptop can really bog down with any of the photo software. It's time for an upgrade soon though. Partly it's just been a busy fall/winter.

Did they show Fantasmic more than twice a week? That announced cutback was a real bummer.

Here's a couple photos of our neighborhood hawk that had taunted me all summer. Last week I noticed him perched up in our tallest pine tree looking around for dinner. It was late afternoon and he was in a lot of shade from the tree so the sky ended up being very blown out but I finally got some pics!

Anyone here own or use a Minolta 50mm 1.7 lenses on the Sony Alpha. Just bought on ebay, and was wondering what you all thought of it. I've read several positive things about it and that it was a must have.

it's a great lens.... a must have...mmmm all depends...

I shoot primarily with a 28-75 2.8 on one camera and an 80-200 2.8 on the other camera..

I've thought about getting one but the A700 is pretty good at higher ISOs, so I've been able to shoot the things I want without one, with an A100,200,300 0r 350 I'd probably get one since they start showing noise sooner at higher ISOs

I especially like the composition of this flower closeup with the dark background, shallow depth of field and the highlights on the flowers.

The rooster on the sheep gets a second vote for being very cute!

Bought my Alpha yesterday and I am soooo excited! I have to wait a few days for the larger lens to come in but I am slowly learning how to use it!

My next question is...I am looking for a good waist pack to use (just can't do the back pack because it is too hot).

i know its a backpack but have a look at the lowpro slingshot you can swing it in front of you and get your camera out without taking it off i have one its a great bag and not as big as most backpacks

Definitely a great lens - well worth the price considering how cheap you can pick them up. It is a super-sharp lens from F2.2 and up, especially in the mid apertures...and still quite capable down to F1.7 when you need the low light sensitivity. I bought one primarily for handheld night photography at higher ISOs and no tripod, and it is fantastic for that use...but I also use it for indoor low light, have used it for tripod-mounted night shots, and for slow shutter daytime shots with a 9-stop filter. Here's an assorted selection of shots taken with the 50mm F1.7 on my A300:

It's great for alot of different uses...alot of lens for the money.

Does anyone have any reviews on this lens: The MINOLTA MAXXUM A.F 1.7 50MM PRIME LENS? I know it is supposed to be good in low light but has anyone used it for sports/action shots?

it's a great lens, however for sports you are limited by the fact that it's not a zoom or telephoto, what type of sports, and how close will you be to the action..

Just wanted to introduce myself here and subscribe to this thread. After thinking about it for a very long time and considering all of my options, I finally decided on and bought the A300 yesterday. This is my first DSLR. I am upgrading from the Sony H2. I am so excited and cannot wait to get out with the camera.

it's a great lens, however for sports you are limited by the fact that it's not a zoom or telephoto, what type of sports, and how close will you be to the action..

I will be taking competition cheer, gymnastics and softball. I can get pretty close to the action.

50mm will work, but you will be limited, for basketball you won't be able to shoot the whole lane, and isolate 1 player, if you sit at the right distance to do one, you won't be able to do the other..

with softball you won't be this close to the action

far enough down 3rd baseline to see past dugout.. I needed 300 mm to isolate the batter
