With my E-PL2 and 14-42mm. And I would also be happy to see an E-50!

How was your trip, Joe? Any good photo ops?

Excellent trip but very hot and humid.

I've got all of the Komen 3 day photos processed but I really haven't done much with the Boston touristy type photos yet.

FYI, I had no problem driving in and around Boston!! :thumbsup2

I have the E-510 with the kit 14-42 and 40-150mm lens. With marching band competition season here, I thinking about renting a lens to get some good full shots of the entire band on the field (my daughter is the field commander) at Vanderbilt this year.

Would the 12-60mm (2.8) work or would something else be better? I'd love to have a better zoom too, but I really need the wide full band shot to use for senior plaques this year.

What would you Olympus experts suggest?
Thanks!!!

The 12-60 is a good choice for wide angle. You might want to check out the 14-35 F/2 SHG lens. That one will probably have a higher rental fee and will be a heavier lens as well.

Thanks Joe---I'll check that lens out too. I appreciate your input!

I think it will depend on how close you'll be sitting. You might consider also the 9-18mm if you'll be down front and center. The 12-60 is an excellent lens and you'd be able to zoom in closer if needed to get individual shots. But you have your kit lenses for that, so if you are planning on being very close to them, I'd probably opt for the 9-18.

Here are some shots that might give you an idea of the focal length you may need. These were all taken from our seats which are 6 rows back from the field.

This is at 14mm

With a 9-18mm you'll be covered from 9-150mm which should handle all your needs. I think the 9-18 is going to be my next purchase. I looked through the WA thread here on the photog forum and that's not good for my wallet!:rotfl:

In case anyone is looking to purchase some gear, Olympus is currently offering rebates on select lenses and cameras, both E-5 and PEN's. It will only be available for a few more days
