photo sharing: HDR

Great first effort! I like the colors of the Mission: space one.
But I think your Spaceship Earth one is the best. It has just the right amount of color and looks realistic (not too cartoony as some HDRs, although sometimes cartoony works great!). You've given me some good ideas for my HDRs when I'm down there.

PS I also love getting big clouds in my HDRs, the process does amazing things with clouds.

Yeah, not alot of big fluffy clouds while I was there. Hot, and not a cloud in the sky. I was going for 'cartoony' on the stitch sign one - that's why I pushed the glow, and I think it turned out ok.

I agree. Cartoony can work really well in an HDR. I like what you've done so far. I have a couple of HDRs I'm working on from today so I'll post them when I have the time to finish.

Anyone got this camcorder if so what do you think? Will it be compatible with my Ibook? TIA:)

Just got back last night and spent the flight messing around making some HDRs. Here they are:

Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. I have a whole lot of work ahead of me since I took somewhere near 3,000 pictures!

I love them!!! They almost have a 3D feeling to them:upsidedow .

Thank you, everyone. I'm not sure how many more HDRs I'll come up with but it looks like I have a small number of decent shots that I'll be working on in the coming days. I can't wait to share more!

Great pictures!!!!
Thanks for giving me yet another star to reach for... :thumbsup2

GORGEOUS PHOTOS!!! Please tell me what are "HDR's"??? :confused3 :confused3

Oh - me too - I'm sure I've read about them somewhere here, but my tired brain just can't get around the concept!! :sad2:

Lovely photos though, Ben. Pop right off the page.

Thanks for sharing.

Nice work, I love the last two, did you use photomatix or photoshop to pp them? WDW is a great subject for HDR, I cant wait to get back to get some new photos to play with!

An HDR is a technique where you combine multiple photos of different exposures. HDR stands for High Dynamic Range, it essentially allows you to use the full spectrum of light from the different photos. Then with software, such as photomatrix, you can make changes to various settings to get the effect you are looking for. HDR's can produce very interesting artistic expressions, from very subtle to very surreal/extreme.

Here are a couple of mine:

This is a heritage park that is right next door to my house:

This one is a sunset I shot from the end of my drive way:

These two shots show some of the extremes that can be achieved with the settings. But, you can get alot more extreme with them. Alot of fun too.

Nice shots Ben!!

I haven't been to WDW or DL for awhile now, must get back and shot my little sensor off!!

I use Photomatix Pro for my HDRs.

Fan1080 is exactly right on what an HDR image is. Here is the Wikipedia entry on it if you want to take a closer look.

:thumbsup2 nice shots, i want to try this next time i am in a high contrast situation...

i'm partial to the last one myself

Me too. The clouds were great that night. I especially like that one because it looks entirely real to me. Many HDRs can look very fake but that last one makes it looks like I'm a very experienced photography knowing exactly what I'm doing instead of just bracketing!

I really like the first 3. They don't look like HDR's or at least they look more like what you would actually see with your eye. Not that the last 2 are bad or anything.

Great job.
