Has anyone ever broken down with the cost per picture on a photo printer? I am thinking about buying a photo printer but I am curious on the cost. What I am wondering with the cost of printing at retail stores and online you can get your photos printed at 20 to 25 cents a piece. With the color ink at around 30 to 35 dollars would the per cost be similar to that or would it be more expensive? I know there are many knowledgeable people out there who could help. Thanks.

Unfortunately I don't have a real anwer to your question. I've read various reports that put the cost at 32-35 cent a picture. Another thing to consider is time. If you're going to print a whole vacations worth of pictures, you're going to be waiting for a while on the prints to come out of your printer, unless you are thinking of getting a color laser printer. For me, it's much easier to upload to snapfish, pay them 20 cent a photo and let them deliver them to my house than it is to wait around for 3 days while my printer spits out pictures. Just a thought.

It depends on how you look at it. Would I buy a printer just for photos, NO. They are convienient but not the fastest. However, since I need a printer at home, why not pay a small amount more and get a photo quality printer? The prints at home would be higher if the printer is just for that, but if you use the printer for everyday use, then you can only figure print cost on a small portion of the cost of the printer and most likely that would be cheap.

I have a photo printer at home that takes 3 ink cartridges. It costs almost $100 to fill it. We print pictures when we just want one here and there. But if we have a bunch of pictures we just take the memory card into walmart and they print them for .19 each.

I print my own photos all the time. Cost is around 30-35 cents each for 4x6. An 8x10 is around 1.50 for paper and ink.

I prefer to print my own because I can decide what paper to use, how to crop, if I want to print at 3 AM I can.

I use Epson photo printers and have been very pleased. They also have a long archival life. They have been rated to last longer than traditional prints. Also when printed on certain papers they are acid free for scrapbooking. Most traditional prints can't do that.

I prefer uploading my pictures to Walmart.com or Snapfish. I think the pictures are more clear when you have them done. They usually send them in a few days. You can also put them on CD or take your memory card to Walmart and have them done within an hour. Both places allow you to edit your pictures.

I print my own, I hate waiting in line to get something done, and i can print whatever time of the day it is w/ no waiting. I really don/t think it is that expensive, my ink cost about $40.00, but i do a lot of printing on that. Right now i have probaly over 2,000 pics on my puter, most of them Disney, I JUST GO TO THEM , CLICK, print and scrapbook them. So much FUN!!!!!!!!disneykid::MinnieMo
