I've read many trip reports in my day. And lately I've seen a few that have a photo of someone "on a stick". Usually just their face. It looks like it's probably a photo of someone that couldn't go on the vacation but they're "there" in spirit. I think it's a cool idea.

Part of my family is going on a week long vacation to Virginia next week and I'm unable to go. I would like to make one of these photo heads on a stick but I have no idea how to make it. I would like it sturdy enough that it won't get too damaged so I'm assuming I would have to use something stronger than pasting the photo on a piece of cardboard, right?

Some people did this at our class reunion, one of their friends was having cancer treatments and couldn't be there so we had flat Julie in all of out pictures. It was really a fun thing to do for her.

Ours was only for one night so it didn't have to be sturdy. What about using foam poster board? It would be pretty sturdy, plus light weight.

We met a lady in Yellowstone a couple of years ago who brings a lifesize full-body picture of her late mother with her everything she travels (in a motorhome). She always includes the photo in photoshots. She said that her mother always wanted to travel and was never able to, so she's making sure her mother gets to travel now. That's a sweet thought. I used to carry a small container of my dad's ashes with me whenever I went on vacation as he was an avid traveler and hadn't been able to travel much in his last years. I'd scatter a pinch anywhere that he hadn't been or that was one of his favorite spots. When we were at Volcanos National Park in Hawaii, we heard that Madame Pele (the volcano goddess) liked silver and gin and that it was good luck to make an offering to her. So, we had a little airline bottle of gin and laid down a few dimes, a splash of gin and a pinch of my dad's ashes. My late husband said "here, Pop, take her out for a drink and dinner and maybe you'll get lucky...." I swear I could hear my dad laughing.

One year I went to WDW with my Mom, and my sister couldn't go so she gave me a photo of herself. We had a lot of fun getting CMs to hold it up and sticking it in front of plates of food at restaurants, etc so we could take pictures of it. :upsidedow
