Photo of grill at cabins?

What type of grill is on the cabin deck? I mean, I know it's a charcoal grill, but is it a kettle-type or something else?

Does anyone have a photo? (or of one in a camping site, if they're the same)

I was just at the cabins a couple weeks ago but unfortunately it doesn't look like I have a picture of the grill. It's more of a square shape, pretty small, and the one at our cabin was in rough shape. I wouldn't have used it personally. It was kind of leaning anyway.

here's a pic I found online somewhere, grill in lower left corner:

We are in the campsites but same grill... not very clean..wouldn't use it either... we have our Coleman tailgating grill with us...cooks all we need for 8 people!

I've always wondered how are you supposed to use this grill?

It looks like the ones that are at the picnic areas of our PA state parks.

They have the really thick grill bars with wide slots. Are you supposed to put your burgers and dogs directly on the grill or use some other grill on top of it? :confused3

They are the same grills that are at the camp sites, I believe, and indeed, they are the thick, heavy bars. I do use the one at the camp site, but I use it with my own grill pieces, like the fish grilling thing or my camp cookware. I wouldn't put my steaks right on it, but I do know that last year camping my DS did and we lived through it, (but he did say he scrubbed it down before he even lit the charcoal). :)

This is DD cooking on the grill last year...

We only used it once this past trip, though, and I don't know if I have a picture of it directly. With just it being DD and I, it was easier for us to eat out than cook nightly. We tried out lots of resorts restaurants that way and toured those resorts at the same time, so I didn't mind the not cooking. :thumbsup2 ;)

The picture is accurate. It's not on the deck, but on the ground nearby. I've used the grills in the past, but always carry a grill brush to clean, then let the heat build up and brush it again. Never had a health problem because if it. I like the fish thingy.

Thanks! That's the type I was fearing... But mostly because they're not as efficient as a kettle, not because of health concerns (flame kills everything, right?).

I'm not planning on cooking a lot (it IS a vacation, after all), but I like to be prepared in case we want to do burgers/dogs one night or something.

I agree with you about the efficiency. The one time I cooked on it a few weeks ago, I covered the whole thing in aluminum foil as a tent to keep the heat in. Worked pretty good, the baked potatoes cooked well after that. :)

I'm a tenter and plan on bringing my 2 burner green Coleman stove. I am packing up a small compact Ford Fiesta so space is an issue. Will my Coleman stove fit on the grill? I want to use the grill as my stove table. I couldn't find grill dimensions.

I think it probably would. (see my picture above) The thing I would worry about most is when the stove is open and the grill bars in the back pushing the stove more forward, if that makes sense? Also the hook up for your fuel. I know mine is at a weird angle and kind of hangs down a bit, which would work for this, but some stoves hook up the fuel in different places. I will say it is a strong, sturdy grill, so you shouldn't have any problems with it wobbling. If it doesn't work, just use the end of your picnic table. :thumbsup2 Another idea...before I got my camp kitchen, I would take one of my tray tables from the house to use for my stove. It folded down flat and wasn't a problem with space since stuff could be put on top of it.

Enjoy camping at the Fort! I will be there for nearly three weeks (and in a tent!) at the end of October. :woohoo:

So, there are no tops to the the grills at the campsites? I thought I saw a picture of a grill with a top somewhere.

I was planning on using the grill when we go, but not sure if everyone says they are nasty!

I was going to take some tin foil grill toppers I found at Dollar Tree for the grills, just in case they didn't clean up well, I hope they work okay.

The grills at the premium campsites have a cover. I have found the grills to be pretty clean overall but I do clean them and carry disposable liners just in case.

The problem I had on the last trip was a grill that was at almost a 45 degree angle. Okay, confess. Who on here uses the "back up 'til you hear crunch" method? I was surprised they did not fix it before we checked in. It worked though.

Some cabins have the grill on the deck. I know the ADA cabins do, and the cabin I had in the 2700 loop, which was not an ADA, also had them on the deck.

I'm thinking no since while the grill itself will fit, if its propane, there isn't enough room for the bottle.

Now if you are going old school with white gas it may work.

Thanks! I AM old school.

It was so much easier when I camped with a truck!

I picked up a grill basket that holds 6 hotdogs.
Should work well and I won't have to put them right on the icky rack.
