PHOTO ID for check in??????

I am beginning the think that I am going to have to figure out how to get a photo ID!! I didn't think I needed one to check into our resort. My DH and myself do not have photo DL in NJ and I do not have a work photo ID and my children do not have school photo IDs. Has anyone else ran into this problem? Are we going to get there and be denied?

At the guard house they want to see a photo ID to get into the resort...although if you didn't have one I don't know what they would do.

That said, NJ just passed a new law that EVERYONE (senior citizens are excluded) needs to have a photo drivers license. Even if you just renewed it, you'll have to go back to DMV and get a photo one. It's part of the homeland security initiative. I do'nt know the deadline for doing so (want to think the end of this year) but it might just be worthwhile to do it sooner than later and beat the rush.

If you're flying you'll need a photo ID to get on the plane, no exceptions.

I don't think they will deny you entrance. They may ask for a second form of ID. I've only had to show ID at a guardhouse once in 5 trips since 9/11 and that was at BW when visiting, not checking in. They usually do ask at check-in but again they may ask for a second form instead. You may want to call and ask.

When we checking into the BCV last September, I had to show a photo ID at the guard shack. When we checked in, the front desk again asked for photo ID. When I went to get it out, I could not find it anywhere in my wallet or purse. Upon my excitement at getting to WDW, I had taken my license from the guard and then not put it away. My DH went out to the car and after 10 minutes found it in between the seat and the gear shift. (He was pretty sweaty and not too happy with me!!) The CM stated that if we did not have a picture ID that matched the name on the reservation, we would not have been allowed to check in. I assume this policy arises out of security concerns, but may also be a safeguard against people changing names and/or selling reservations to avoid change/cancellation penalties, i.e., if I can't go on vacation, I could just resell it to you and you could just check in as me. The CM indicated that they were very strict about this policy. I was just glad we found the ID as the reservation was only under my name (and it is different than DH's name). Hope this helps.

I remember a Trip Report a while back (year or two ago) where the CM did not check ID's and someone else checked into a room not theirs. It got kind of nasty and someone got evicted from the room.

You can get a picture DL by going to DMV. Bring birth cert., marriage license and I think SS card. I just did this about 2 months ago because I also didn't have a picture DL living in NJ. It took about 20 mins. on a Mon. or Tues. morning and only cost me $5 (my license had only been renewed about 1yr ago - my new picture DL says duplicate - I guess that's what the $5 was for)

I heard that in July NJ DMV is switching over to using more high tech drivers licenses so that it doesn't look like something you can do with a cheap laminator. I'm waiting until that goes into effect before I wait in line at DMV for anything.

I've been 3 times since 9/11 and EACH and EVERY time(6 check-ins) I've been asked for photo id at check-in and at the security booth. I also live in NJ and I used to bring my passport, since I needed a photo id for the plane. I just got a photo license when I renewed in Jan. If you have a passport, you can just bring that. Otherwise, you'll have to go down to DMV and get a photo one. Bring your current license as well as your social security card, birth certificate, and marriage license. You'll get a duplicate license as the previous poster mentioned. They are strict and won't allow you to check-in without it!! NJ is actually I believe the only state, that currently doesn't require picture licenses. As ducklite indicated though, this is going to change VERY soon.

I need to renew my NJ license in July (when the new digital photos will begin). It is already a photo ID. Will I need to bring all of the documents you mentioned above to renew or will my current license be sufficient?

You learn the most amazing things on this board. When I assumed the OP did not drive since there was no photo ID. Who knew there was still a state without pictures on the DL? Oh well!

Anyway, if your state now offers them I would brave the line. It would certainly come in useful and if you are flying (I assume you are driving, but...) you won't be getting on the plane without it. Your underage children don't need one to fly with you though.

When I renewed in Jan, I just bought the renewal with me and said I wanted a picture license. I didn't need any further documentation.
