Does anyone do handtinting? I have done it on photos that I took with a film camera with wonderful results using photo oils, but the shots I took with my DSLR did not come out so well. A local camera store said that digital photos do not color as well. Anyone else experience this?

I used to do some hand tinting and still have my Marshall's oils and colored pencils. With digital I think it is an issue with the paper mostly having a different surface and coating than the B&W papers. Marshall's has inkjet paper made for hand coloring and some of the fine art papers should work well although some articles point out the lack of a barrier between the top layer and the paper as a problem.
Here is some info:

I have tried adding colored layers and adjusting the opacity to get a similar effect and it works well.
