Photo Copy yellow tag?

We leave on Christmas Day and I've started packing. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to have one more suitcase than I have yellow ME tags for. Could I photo copy my tag with a color copier and it work? Or should I just tell ME when I arrive that I have one extra luggage without the tag?

The photocopying thing intrigues me though. I wonder if it would work. Print it out, wrap it around the handle and secure with packing tape. Presumably, as long as the bar code is legible, there's no reason why it shouldn't.

Exactly, it intregues me too. It the same as all of the cruise lines that email you their luggage tags. As long as the bar code is clear. Use a color copier and they would be almost identical. (stepping back, awaiting the flame throwers)

I have an old suitcase. I may pack some things that wouldn't break my heart if I lost them and try it.

We went on our first cruise this year and that's what went through my mind when I read your post.

If you're really curious, use a bar code reader app on your smart phone and see what's encoded on the bar code on the tag. The only stumbling block I could see if if the tags were coded as "1 of 2" and "2 of 2", but that doesn't make sense because what if someone just has one bag and puts the 2nd tag on. So yea, it should work.

I just don't know that the visual impact of the paper copy would be the same to the people pulling bags as the sticker tag. Depends on how alert they are that day I suppose.

If something goes wrong with the bar code, Magical Express will use the written information on the yellow tag. However if you write in corrections on the tag, do not mark through the bar code.

If you use an inkjet printer to reproduce the tag then you would need to laminate it (cover its entire surface and more) with packaging tape to prevent the information from washing off if the tag gets wet.

If a bag is not matched up with a room reservation when it gets to Disney, it is usually matched up when the guest doesn't receive it and calls that evening after getting back from a park or calls the next day if he arrived late. There is some flexibility although it is not foolproof that a bag can arrive a day early and still get matched up with its (then future) room reservation.

I've made copies of mine several times and have had no problems. I copy both sides and then put it together with the wide clear tape that you use on packages when you mail them. I put it together like the original tag, put it on my luggage and it looks just like the original tag.
All the printing and bar codes are easy to see, so they can be scanned just like the tag that is mailed to you.
