Here's some shots I did last night, I used a 50 mm Canon lens with a Kenko 20 mm extentension tube on a tripod with a focusing rail, also did these in live mode.
Decided to try to get some natural light shots of our tree this afternoon. Here's my Mickey ornament:
Canon S3 IS
ISO 200
Aperture 7.1 (I wanted the star effect on the lights - something I learned on this board!)
Shutter 2 sec
Super Macro
I did lighten it up a bit in PSE4 - looked like the exposure was ok on the camera screen, but was just a tad too dark once I saw it on the computer and I'd already put away my tripod and didn't feel like getting it out again.
Okay, this is only my second picture. I still have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, but I'm trying! It's a little blurry, but I can't seem to get it sharpened enough for some reason. I'm sure it has something to do with the photographer.

Nice shot Amy! I love it! The first thing I noticed was the star effect and wondered what your aperture was, then I saw your info about the shot. I like that effect a whole lot. I have not had the time to take more photos of my tree, but maybe I'll try some before bed tonight.

I like that shot. Nice shallow depth of field from your 2.7 aperture. Did you use a tripod for it? That would give you the sharpness you are looking for, I think. The 1/13 shutter is just too slow to hand hold.

I agree with Andy - I like this shot! I don't think of it as being blurry, to me it just has soft edges. Gives it kind of an ethereal look, which is what you want with an angel, right? I like the lighting, too.

Thanks cpbjgc, if I got any closer I would have been in the tree, with the 50mm and extenstion tube on you are only a few inches away from the oranments, I didn't crop them either just resized them. I like the Kenko extenstion tubes, I bought the set of 3.
