Here are a few from our town's Festival of Lights a couple of weekends ago.

How do you get the star effect on the cristmas tree lights?
:cloud9:

Use a real narrow aperture. I shoot in Av mode (aperture priority) and use an fstop of anywhere from 11-22 generally. That should create the star effect. Of course, I usually shoot with no lights on but the tree lights and use a tripod. The shutter speed can be as long as 30 seconds sometimes.

Here is one that I forgot to take last night. My all time favorite! Go Pats!

A Cross Screen Filter will also accompish this.

Those filters are pretty cool. I used to have one called "star filter" back in the film days. I barely ever used it though. Of course, I really didn't have a clue what I was doing back then. Now I have about half a clue. :) I'm getting the cokin filter adapters and stuff for Christmas so all I will need to do is pick out filters for it! :woohoo: They are the expensive part, but I'm looking forward to a graduated ND filter. The local Ritz only had ND4 which I thought was too dark. I may pick up one of the star effect ones too.

Here's a few ornaments from our tree. Something I've never really done before for some reason but it's a great idea.

Here is a picture of my Christmas tree that I took a few nights ago. ISO 100, f/22, white balance was set to Tungsten and a 30-second exposure all set up on a tripod. This is my favorite photo from the holiday season so far!

My husband's family owns a Bed & Breakfast near Cincinnati. It a beautiful old Victorian style home...way prettier than my 4 bedroom ranch! Here's a few shots from our visit to them on Christmas Eve.
