Thank you DMickey28, great pics of your DS.
Great pics everyone, Glad the picture of your daughters is very nice, it will make a beautiful Christmas card.
boBQuincy I hope kitty doesn't move over and decide to chew on the lights, I had a cat do that once, she never went near the tree again.
How did I shoot them, I used a tripod, low ISO setting (ISO 100) mirror lockup and a remote shutter release, AV mode and checked my history gram to see if I needed any minor adjustments.
A picture of my tree from last night. I like the way the lights shine as little stars, but am not sure why they are doing that. They are just regular small lights. Needed to shine a flashlight on the angel to illuminate her a bit, otherwise she just turned out dark.
f8 1.3sec ISO 100 "nifty fifty" Canon 30D with tripod and shutter release
Nice looking tree, Andy! I agree - the lights look real neat when they're like stars. I saw your post on another thread late last night (can't remember which one) and somebody posted that it's a small aperture that makes the "star" effect. Whenever that happens with one of my shots (I remember a good one of the sun shining off Darth Vader's helmet during Stars Wars Weekend in June), it's purely accidental; I couldn't do it if I tried!
This is the annual parade which features floats decked out in lights. It was a chilly night and these pictures were taken handheld with my daughter sitting on my shoulders (and getting down, and getting up again, and getting down again ). You will note we were on the wrong side of the street for many pictures as people on the floats were looking the other direction .
I used my Rebel XTi with the Sigma 17-70 mm f2.8-4.5, no flash, 800 ISO and underexposing at -2/3 to get adequate shutter speed.

Everyone's traditional favourite - the Hot Tub float!
Nice shots everyone.
cpbjgc very nice work, that looks like a nice parade, not like the one we have.
EasyGoing* great ornament shots, I shot some myself last night and going to post a few as soon as I'm done uploading them.
Here's some shots I did last night, I used a 50 mm Canon lens with a Kenko 20 mm extentension tube on a tripod with a focusing rail, also did these in live mode.
