I'm going to be in town for a conference next week, and I saw that Man vs. Food filmed in Phoenix in the spring. Two of the places he visited seemed good, and I'll only have the chance to go to one of them. If you could only pick one, would you go to Chompie's or Los Reyes de la Torta?

I looked at Chompie's website, and it seems like it has some good food, but it seems kind of weird to go to a New York deli in Phoenix. I love Mexican food, but as far as I can tell, Los Reyes de la Torta doesn't have a website to check out their menu. I'd love some opinions from those of you who have tried one or both. Thanks!

My recommendation would dependon on what part of town you will be in and if you will have a car. Honestly, I don't think Chompie's is anything special, it is a good sandwich and bagel shop.

For Mexican food, if you are going to be downtown there are many places with awesome food that are lots closer than the place listed. Especially if you will not have a car, or have limited time to go.

I'm going to have a car for one day, so that's the day I'm planning on trying one of these places before I return my rental car to the airport. I guess whichever one of those is closest to the airport would probably be best. Which would that be?

If your heart is in trying one of the places you saw on TV - I would go with Los Reyes de la Torta on North 7th Street.

I'll throw a plug in for my favorite place though. It is by Ranch Market on 16th Street and Roosevelt. It is about 2 miles north from the rental car return for the airport. The Queso Fundido and Mole Enchiladas are awesome.

Tradiciones is awesome!!! DF and I love to go there as a date night place. They have awesome margaritas!:thumbsup2

Chompies is nothing special. They do have good biali's, however don't put it on the top of your list.

I know your heart is seeing things that you saw on TV, but I'd also recommend Oreganos. Great pizza, salad and 'Pizzookie'.

My BFF lives in Scottsdale and I have been traveling to AZ 1-2x/year in the past 10 years and Chompies is a must do for every trip! I think the food is wonderful there! Real down-home NY deli with fantastic Jewish traditional treats-huge menu with humungous portions. I usually go with either the chopped liver on rye or the corned beef. My DF raves over the monte cristo there-best he has ever had! They also have great potato pancakes, omelets, knishes, love their bagels & bialys. We often end up going back there a 2nd time on our way to the airport headed home to grab a sandwich to split on the airplane.

So, my vote for you is Chompies, if you are into NY/Jewish deli food. :)
