I started PT yesterday and it sounds like a lot of the initial therapy is going to involve massaging the area (which HURTS!! Yikes!) She said it felt like I had "popped" some of the muscle fibers (gross) and when they healed they didn't lay down all nice and neat like muscle fibers should...so they need to work on that before they start working on strengthening the muscles. The good news is that I'm going to Bar Harbor, Maine for Columbus Day weekend and even though I can't run the carriage roads like I had initially planned, I should be okay for some light hiking (as long as I stop if anything starts to hurt). I also signed up to volunteer for the half marathon that I was supposed to be running. I'm happy that I can still be involved!!
Finally feeling like I'm on the road to recovery! Have a great weekend everyone!
Those athletic massages hurt! I go for monthly massages and it always HURTS, but then feels good later. Muscle is a tricky tissue in terms of healing. Yea for Bar Harbor, it is so pretty this time of year. What half marathon are your volunteering for? I ended up not running a half by me, but my friend's husband did. We all went out and cheered him on. I knew a lot of runners because it was a local race so it was so much fun. I rarely get to be on the cheering side so I had a blast. We all made signs, I broke out the cowbell, and I yelled for hours. Sometimes that is just as much fun as getting the medal. Enjoy!
