PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

Morning Cupcakes! Tammie, I always forget that the NON-running shoes are the ones that give me injuries half the time. I can't give up my flip-flops though...although I might have to if fall continues. Maybe when the first snow hits. ;)

I didn't run much at the beginning of the week because I was out of town, but I finished strong and got some miles in at the end of the week. Yesterday morning was so gorgeous, I hadn't planned on a longish run, but kept going to 5 miles b/c I felt so strong! Then I decided it was a good idea to go on a walk with my daughter and the dogs and put in close to another 2 miles. I'm a bit sore today and dealing with some sort of pulled muscle in my back as well (doesn't seem to affect my running luckily).

Megg, I hope it's nothing serious and you heal up quickly!

Happy Fall and happy running to everyone this week! :thumbsup2

Tammie, sounds like some type of shin splints issues. Stretch Stretch Stretch those calves girl!!

I bought those calf sleeves to improve my circulation as I have delt with shin issues in the past and I never want to deal with that again.

Have a good day/week everyone!!

So today I appreciate the Monday motivation. I had a funeral to go to this morning so I figured I would try to run a little to get some emotion out before I went. It was a short fast run and it felt good but then I could not stop sweating and had to leave the house with wet hair - overheated premeno woman in a dress with AC on full blast:laughing::laughing:

So then I realized in my signature line that ToT is in 1 week and 5 days...yikes! Feeling not ready and not organized. How did it come up so fast? Hoping to run into a Cupcake or two at the after party:)

Tammie - I'm so glad your hubby finally made it home! I know the stress of him being in that mess and out of touch with you was rough. Rest your legs and get back out there when you can!

Saturday I ran 5 miles, because that's what I though was on my training plan. I looked at it today to fill in my actual miles for last week, I was only supposed to do 2! Oh well, I guess I am ahead of the game. I probably won't get to run Saturday. Eli is playing in a baseball tournament this weekend in a town about 100 miles away. :)

Thanks for the well-wishes, everyone. I'm going to get an ultrasound of my calf done later today and I'm still waiting to hear when the sports medicine doctor will be able to see me. I'm still holding out hope for good news! I've been in such a funk for the past few days. I had been really looking forward to doing my first double-digit run over the weekend and I was sad to miss out on that...plus missing that mental escape that my runs give me from all the craziness of work. Things could definitely be worse though, so I'm just going to hope that I can see the specialist soon and cross my fingers that he has good news for me!

Wednesday Wonderings

Hat or No Hat at Disney Hollywood Studios...

This discussion might be lively. But I actually like the hat. I think that each park needs that iconic symbol that is over the top LARGE! What I hate about it happens to be the stage and all the signage, lights, etc that they put up making the thing look ugly and you can't get decent pictures!

I honestly don't know what I was thinking when I put them on...now I have to deal with 1 day of stupidity that effects my running for who knows how long...

I love days where you just push yourself farther because you are truly enjoying the moment and it feels good...I WANT ONE OF THOSE DAYS!!!!

MY NEVER ENDING BATTLE IT SEEMS...stretching, icing, heat...and the right shoes!

I bought those calf sleeves to improve my circulation as I have delt with shin issues in the past and I never want to deal with that again.

Yep have the sleeves too...and I need to get some more biofreeze....

I hear the premeno overheating...ugh...so sorry about your loss...but a good run sometimes is the best thing to get your mind off of other things!

So then I realized in my signature line that ToT is in 1 week and 5 days...yikes! Feeling not ready and not organized. How did it come up so fast? Hoping to run into a Cupcake or two at the after party:)

There are quite a few that are running in ToT...a little jealous because I had so much fun last year...

Tammie - I'm so glad your hubby finally made it home! I know the stress of him being in that mess and out of touch with you was rough. Rest your legs and get back out there when you can!

So ready to send him back...:rotfl2: the man brought with him a nasty cold and is dying :rolleyes1...ugh, men are such babies when they are sick.

YAY for 5 miles...go Eli!

Wednesday Wonderings- I'm good with the hat. I think part of the reason it doesn't bother me is b/c I never went to Disney before the hat. I also have no issues with MGM vs. Hollywood Studios b/c again, my first visit was in 2008 so I don't have any past nostalgic memories that would make me dislike these things! :)

This made me go back and look at that first trip to DHS with my daughter and her friend. She was just a few weeks shy of 8!

While I will always call it MGM.. I actually have no issue at all with the hat. I like it.. works for me!

But then again, I don't find myself having any particular loyalty to this park other than really really liking ToT! If they moved that ride to another park, I probably would never even go to MGM.

Karen- adorb pic of Savannah! Just 7, where does time go????

I'm a fan of DHS, the place and the name!

I was at MGM as a tween girl when it first opened. It was cool. I was a New Mickey Mouse Club fan and the backlot tour (now closing!) was way cooler and more involved back then. Anyone remember the Bette Midler short film that was made at MGM as part of the show?

Anyway, The hat and the name change don't bother me. DHS makes much more sense as a Disney Park name. The Hat? Whatever. I don't particularly remember what we used to take a picture in front of before the hat anyway. Ha!

On a side note, if it's true I can't wait for Pixar Land!!! (might have to have more kids so they'll still be little to appreciate it! ha!)

I really like Hollywood -- even the hat. I would prefer not to have a store underneath, etc. it's a great photo spot. I love all the shows and rides - but still haven't done the roller coaster. Actually can wait to go there on 10/4!!

Results???? My fingers are still crossed for you Megg!

Waiting to hear back now...I got the ultrasound done yesterday. The woman wasn't very nice...she looked at me when I came in and said "Well, you're not limping or walking on your toes, so it can't be THAT bad"...trust me, I would much rather be anywhere but here getting this test done! I asked her if she saw anything but she said that my doctor has to give me the results...I figured that was the answer I'd get but patience isn't really my strong point! I'm trying to look on the bright side of things- the science nerd in me thought it was really cool to see what the inside of my leg looks like!

I'm hoping that they'll call me today or tomorrow to schedule an appointment with the sports medicine specialist. I'm bummed because if I miss the October 25th half marathon, there isn't another one nearby that I could feasibly get ready for until December 7th which is too late for proof of time for the PHM. Trying to focus on the healing process instead of what corral I'm going to be in for a race that's 5 months away!

Megg, hope all is well!! Please don't worry about your corrall! Don't sweat the Small Stuff and that is small stuff. I've never submitted a time for any Disney race.
The 16 min/mile is such a good buffer even if you were in the last corral. You'll be fine!

Wednesday Wondering: I'm like Karen, I'm ok with the hat because I never knew DHS any other way. My 1st trip to that park was 2011. :)

Tammie - How's your hubby feeling? Men are big babies when they're sick. Lol.

Eli is excited about his tournament this weekend. There is a Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Target and TJ Maxx across the street from our hotel. ;)

Megg - I hope you get good news about your calf!

Cupcake Friday
(as if just being Friday is not sweet enough)

Gourmet Cake Cups
Magic Kingdom: Cheshire Café

We have made our cupcake rounds now at the monorail resorts (plus Wilderness Lodge), but if you are like me you can never get enough of Magic Kingdom...well I never can get enough of just staring in awe at Cindy's Castle. This week my FB feed popped up a cupcake treasure that I had not seen when we were previously in the Magic Kingdom. So lets get one more look at the THE CASTLE as we make our way back into Fantasyland to the Cheshire Cafe for the newest cupcake starts at WDW...the Gourmet Cake Cups, which all look like a sugar rush about to happen and we are sure to find the TWEEDLES hanging around somewhere. The concept is simple, pile layers of cake and frosting in a cup...alternating of course to please the eye and then top with some fun embellishments....bring your sweet tooth cause you are going to need it.

First the Cheshire Cupcake. which from appearance is one serious mound of vanilla, for all you vanilla lovers...standard Disney vanilla cake sandwiched between layers of light vanilla frosting then topped with sprinkles and a white chocolate disk with the image of the Cheshire Cat.

Next is the Mad Hatter Mocha Gourmet Cake Cup which will make coffee and chocolate lovers take notice. Apparently this cupcake is a little different as it has a strong coffee taste delivered by the frosting layers (nothing subtle about the flavor here-much stronger than the hint of mocha that anticipated. The flavor of the frosting was sweetened by the presence of dark chocolate chips and white chocolate “straws.” Unlike the vanilla cake frosting, this almost mousse-like, which makes terrific lightness to such a rich treat with the layers of chocolate cake. Of course it has to have an over the top embellishment of another white chocolate disk, this one featuring the Mad Hatter in all of his mad hatting glory.

Moving on to the 3rd cake cup offering is the White Chocolate Rabbit Cake Cup (inspired, obviously by the always-late White Rabbit in “Alice in Wonderland”) is a yellow cake base that is “sprinkled” throughout with small bits of chocolate cake. The frosting is a delicious buttercream, and the “White Chocolate” in the name stems from those cute bunny ears made of white chocolate (with small ribbons of milk chocolate) peeking out of the frosting The detailing in the sugared flower is a gorgeous touch, and the sprinkling of the garnish adds a nice crunch (and, if I detected correctly, lents a small bit to more of the white chocolate taste).

Finally, the Queen of Hearts Strawberry Shortcake Cake Cup also has a yellow cake base. However, in this case the layers have the addition of a flavorful strawberry purée. The frosting is also strawberry, and the artistic toppers are again fantastic: from the Queen of Hearts fondant playing card to the “We’re Painting the Roses Red” soft sugar rose, down to the heart sprinkles. Apparently what really stands out is the outstanding strawberry flavor in both the cake layers and the frosting, a burst of genuine strawberry with every bite.

Now don't get your hopes up if you are wanting to sample each one of this little cup gems as from reports they are usually featured in 2s...and are switched out on an alternating basis.

My Thoughts

While these 4 cupcakes are cute...I am really not a huge fan of that much icing. I am more of a cake type of gal and just looking at these pictures made my mouth pucker up and jaw hurt thinking of that much sweetness...so I think I will pass (unless someone wants to offer me a bite, which I could never turn down. Personally I am keeping my fingers crossed for Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum Cake Cups...eaten by the TWEEDLES THEMSELEVES. What flavor would you ask...well one would be lemon something and the other well caramel both infused with alcohol of course!

Your Thoughts???

I too am excited about Pixar Land...I was bummed a little when they did not go with another CARS Land...but Pixarland totally makes up for that disappointment. So much fun stuff they can do with all the movies! Just means I have to get to California!

I really like Hollywood -- even the hat. I would prefer not to have a store underneath, etc. it's a great photo spot. I love all the shows and rides - but still haven't done the roller coaster. Actually can wait to go there on 10/4!!

There is a store underneath...:confused3:confused3:confused3

When I had my x-rays done for stress fracture...I too found it pretty cool to see the inside of my leg. So sorry about the rude lady...people just don't understand when all you can focus is on a race and not so much sure act of walking...

I'm hoping that they'll call me today or tomorrow to schedule an appointment with the sports medicine specialist. Why do corrals have to stress us out so much...I am having to find a back up 10K for November because I am certainly not ready for the one in October...

The 16 min/mile is such a good buffer even if you were in the last corral. You'll be fine!

So right...last corral you still can stay ahead easily stay ahead of that 16 mm pace. I did ToT in the second to last corral, and while it is totally do able to stay ahead of the sweepers it makes the whole run not a pleasant thing worrying about what is behind you and not being able to enjoy the moments along the course because of that fear.

Wednesday Wondering: I'm like Karen, I'm ok with the hat because I never knew DHS any other way. My 1st trip to that park was 2011. :)

Tammie - How's your hubby feeling? Men are big babies when they're sick. Lol.

Better thanks...although I am not speaking to him much because he is so grumpy...hey paybacks he gets to go camping this weekend with Goo's cub scout pack...HEE HEE...let the punishment commence!

Eli is excited about his tournament this weekend. There is a Starbucks, Chick-fil-A, Target and TJ Maxx across the street from our hotel. ;)

Love me some Chick-fil-A and a Chai Tea Latte

Megg - I hope you get good news about your calf!

I guess I don't really understand all the hoop-la behind the name change from MGM and DHS...and what all the fuss is over the hat! :confused3:confused3:confused3

Cupcakes!! Hi! Still trying to get caught up on the thread, but I wanted to chime in and introduce myself! My name is Liesel and I have just set as my goal to run in the 2016 Princess Half Marathon. I live outside of Austin, TX and am a walker, but not a runner (yet). You ladies are inspiring me so much and I am looking forward to following your journey so that I can follow in your footsteps for 2016! I am in the process of losing weight (have 100 lbs more to go to get to my ideal weight). I have lost 39 lbs since my highest weight in 2009. I am the mom to 3 Disney-loving kids (ds17, dd14 and dd9) and wife to a Disney loving man. Our last trip to WDW was in June of this year and we are ready to go back!

Thanks for letting me follow along! I hope many of you will be up to doing the 2016 race as well! I can't wait! :yay:

WELCOME LIESEL!!!!!

Always glad to have another cupcake join the box! The more the better...and yummier and another Texas flavor. I am not sure that I will ever be able to call myself a runner...sometimes I feel like I am cheating doing intervals and that I don't take races very seriously like "runners"...I am doing this for me and that it what matters. I  your attitude...YET!!!! You will make it thinking that way! Great job on losing weight so far...I understand the struggle in the last year I have lost the same 25 pounds (need 30 more after that) more times than I care to count. It is a constant battle...

Your children are the same ages as mine. (just opposite genders...dd 17, ds 14 and ds 9) and I bet you have a crazy life just like mine..and I am jealous that you have a Disney loving husband. LOL...I think mine enjoys the time there, but no way is he Disney loving!

Again, so glad you are to find motivation and inspiration...we will do our best to cheer you along, because that is what cupcakes do!

MOTIVATION MONDAY

I am really trying to dig deep lately...been dealing with my never ending shin issues and while I think I have had the motivation to run the body continues to hold me back...and I think that is starting to weigh the mind down too! BUT...I did run a 5K this past weekend and while my time was not as great as July I ran it pretty much pain free but today my shins are in rebellion mode. Thank goodness to day I can wear jeans to school...which means I can wear my Brooks and heavy shin sleeves under my jeans and not look funny! I will try and get a Race Report up tonight!

How about another video from PHM to get the week started....
