PHM 2015-In Pursuit of Cupcakes While Running in Glass Slippers

Well Cupcakes, I have bad news and I have good news. Which one do you want to hear first? The bad news? Ok :(

I'm out for the Princess Half. No birthday trip for me. I'm very, very sad.

BUT...I have a good reason (here's the "good news" part):

We can't book another vacation right now b/c we're buying a house!! :yay:

We're moving in on August 1st!! We leave for vacation August 4th, and fly to Disney on August 5th.

Yes, I'm crazy.

We get the keys this weekend. We're buying the house from my husband's boss, and it is sitting empty, so she's not making us wait for anything. Everything happened so fast! Like, in the last 9 days.

I've decided to shoot for the ToT ten mile race in 2015, or the wine and dine...so we can finally do the Food and Wine festival. Even though I'm so excited about the house and the move, I'm pretty torn up about not being able to run the race and be in Disney World on my birthday. But I have to be positive!

One positive is the new house is in a neighborhood that links up with one of my favorite running trails, so no more driving to get somewhere to run!

So you can kick me out of the club if you want, but I'd like to stick around and offer support and encouragement, and to comment on all the yummy cupcake pictures.

Now I guess I've got to get packing! I still can't believe we're cutting it so close to vacation :crazy2:

Hey cupcakes...I am going to be AWOL for about a week. Headed to our cabin for the 4th of July (Internet is hit or miss)...head home 5th to wash and repack. Then Sunday dropping ds#1 off at band camp and then taking dd to Omaha, NE for a college visit at Creighton! whew..lots if road time!

Good luck to everyone running races this week! Run hard and celebrate the finish line!

Safe travels & happy 4th of July!

Boo on not being able to run PHM, BUT, you are buying a house & that is awesome! Disney will always be there!! W&D is on my radar for 2016 I think.

Of course you are welcome to stay!

that is great news! The race will be there when you can go and I have a feeling there will be other races with cupcake crawls if the group members are game.

have a great holiday - safe travels!

Registration is right around the corner and my thoughts turn to 2 questions:

1). GSC or no GSC?

2) Princess selection for bib? And a costume to coordinate with said bib?

Hi cupcakes! I just want to say thank you to everyone who sent sympathy for the passing of my grandfather. It seems with the traveling for the funeral and trying to get back to life as usual that the past couple of weeks were gone in a blink! And now it's July!

I ran in my first Sparkle Tech skirt today! Yay! I'm still a bit self-conscious about the exposed skin (used to running in capris), but other than that it was great!

AP registration opens in one week! Woo hoo!

That is SO exciting! Congratulations! I certainly hope that you'll stick around here with us :-)

1) Yes! You can dooooooit! :-)
2) I'm going for Minnie (an honorary princess!) with bright pink / black outfit and there's no bib for her. I'll probably do a Cindy bib. Or maybe Aurora? Not sure.

I'm getting anxious about registration, since I don't have an annual pass. I do have Disney Visa, but apparently we're not a big deal anymore. Boo! I just hope I get registered in time. Rebel Challenge sold out in 27 minutes. Yikes! I blocked off time on my office calendar so that nobody can schedule a meeting with me between 10am and 12pm on the 15th (I'm Central Time zone). And I've set up my Active account to minimize typing time. Hoping for lightning fast internet!!! :-D

Glad you are back! Rock that sparkly skirt and show some skin - it's all in the attitude :)

yay Minnie! I was Minnie themed last year with a Belle bib - She is the Queen of WD - thinking about which Princess I can embrace this year. Maybe Snow White bc she was first? Keep looking at IGlow costumes and they are all fun. Still easier than making a ToT choice:)

I am all over the place. Depends on which day you ask me! I want to do GSC, but the cost :scared: & add in the 5K :scared::scared::scared: I will more than likely do GSC, unless it sells out before I can register

Princess selection for bib...I picked Belle for this past PHM. Why? I have long, dark hair, as does she. Did I dress like her? Not a chance. I didn't even dress as a princess, unless you count Jessie, aka the princess of the wild West :rotfl2:

Congrats on the house, and it's great location! Buying a house is something to celebrate! Hope you'll stick around and hang out with all the cupcakes!

I say go for the GSC! (But I'm too chicken as a novice runner to even contemplate that! :lmao: So take my advice with a grain of salt!)

Princess selection will be Ariel! I think that is who my costume will be too. Because I'm 10 and still obsessed with her! ;)

I am nervous about registration as well! I will be at my in-laws on vacation now, but told DH we had to get in the night before so I had internet access. I could not be traveling! I was able to successfully register us for the marathon so I'm crossing my fingers things go as well for PHM weekend!

I am hoping pre sale doesn't sell out fast since we won't be near a computer at noon!

I chose Merida and I was glad I did.I found that the bibs with Belle and Cinderella were light and hard to read. My number and name really stood out on the dark green.
And I didn't have a costume. Maybe next time.

So I think I am going to give up in the GSC for this year. We really want to travel and we have plans to go the Haiti on a mission trip next summer and I want to go to France after that.
I'd like to find a race there, I just think it would be so cool.

So I will pop in on occasion and see how y'all are doing. For now I am going to focus on my weight loss and getting back to running.

Ragnar Chicago June 6 & 7 race recap (better late than never, lol!!)

Typing up this post in Ragnar orange ;)

First off let me say, I went into this back in October with a group of ladies who were ambassadors for a clothing company with me. We had never met each other & only knew of each other through the company ambassador Facebook page. Over the months we grew to know each other better. 2 ladies had to back out due to injuries & personal issues, & another lady was injured but opted to be a driver for van 1 (my van) so she could still join us on the fun, so in all, we lost 3 of our original members, but I think the replacements were awesome. Many of us were meeting at Ragnar for the first time.

This was a relay with teams of 12 or 6 (ultra teams) where we went 196 miles from Madison, WI to Chicago. We were team Swirly Girls.

I was runner 3 in van 1 with Steph, Kelly, Kris, Shaun & Jolene. We also had Katie as our driver. Van 2 was Amy, Cristie, Irene...& honestly I can't tell you the other 3. We didn't have much time with van 2 so I didn't develop any friendship with any of them.

We went grocery shopping & headed to dinner. By 10pm we were ready for bed as we knew we had a long couple days ahead of us!

We spent the night in a hotel about 15 min away from the starting area in Madison, WI. We grabbed breakfast in the hotel (they had lots of options for runners that morning as they were a host hotel).

We had a start time of 830am. Van 1 had to be there about an hour before to check in & go through the safety briefing. Van 2 would go through a safety briefing at the first major exchange point (where we would also meet for the first time). Here is a pic of us with our race shirts at the start area lined up in our running order - Steph, Kelly, Me, Kris, Shaun, Jolene.

As a runner was out on the course, we would try & find a support point on the course. We would get out & cheer, give fluids to our runner if needed & then be on our way again to either find another support point, or get our next runner to the exchange point.

As I said, I was runner 3. My first leg was a short 2.7 miles. It was HUMID on Friday morning!! My first leg was uneventful.

Pic of me during leg 1.

After runner 6 finished up, we spent a few minutes with van 2 for introductions. We headed to find some lunch at a little restaurant & then made our way to the next major exchange point to rest a while before we started our second legs for the evening.

All rested up & with our evening safety gear on, our van started our evening legs. My second leg was 5.4 miles. This one was a little harder & I jarred my leg after coming off the sidewalk wrong about 2 miles in. By the time my second leg was over my knee was throbbing & my opposite foot was hurting from overcompensating the injury.

After my second leg I got some ice on my knee.

We finished up our second legs & headed to the next major exchange point. We were now right along Lake Michigan on the WI side. Most of my van went to a sleeping area, I opted to sleep in the Suburban, as did Shaun.

This was the beautiful view about 430am.

Before we knew it, van 2 was done with their overnight legs & we were starting our 3rd legs. We were all pumped with adrenaline (& very little sleep), but we knew in a few short hours our van would be done!

My 3rd leg was 5.6 miles. I was still in a lot of pain when I tried to run. Seemed like many more people were walking by this time during the relay. I was never so happy to see my "1 mile to go" sign!

Here is a pic of me after my final leg. I was officially a Ragnarian!!

After our van finished, we made our way to the finish area at Lincoln Park in Chicago. We had plenty of time before runner 12 was due to finish, so we took the opportunity to have a little picnic to try & finish up some of our groceries & enjoy a little final bonding time as a group. We had grown very close in the last 48hrs.

We went to the merchandise areas to look around & got our complimentary pizza & beer. We went closer to the finish & watched runners come through with their teams to cross the finish line together. We got a text from van 2 that our runner 12 was going to be finished soon, but they were still driving to get to the finish area. A few minutes later we saw runner 12 (Amy) & the 6 of us runners from van 1 crossed the finish line with her. We waited for van 2 to arrive & we got a picture of the whole team together.

We ended up finishing with a time of 31:55:09 & finished 8th in our division (out of 27).

Moments later, several of the van 2 members left (they lived locally). We had plans to go to one of the ladies homes who lived about an hour away & spend the night there. We headed back to our vans & drove to Cristie's house to have dinner & swim.

Here is a close up of the medal.

My final thoughts...Ragnar was an AMAZING experience. I think if you are teamed with the right people, you will have a great time. Everyone in my van got along great, but when we saw van 2, they barely spoke to each other. Everyone in van 2 were all very competitive & trying to have the fastest times (although in advance they all said they were not going to be like that & we were all in this to have fun). There was a lot of great runner support between all the teams. We were exhausted, tired, but we got through it.

This race took a toll on me physically. I was exhausted for several days following my return home & then I got sick.

Hope everyone celebrated a great 4th of July!

I dragged my mom along for a 3 miler on our local bike path. We did ok. Focused more on talking than running and came in at about 40mins. Good time for mom, not so great for me. But we have a 5k at the end of August and I stick with her for those!

Getting excited for this week. I'll be registering for the 10k early!

I did it! I ran this week. I woke up early and didn't really feel like falling back asleep so I hit the dreadmill before everyone got up. Restarted C25K and got 2 miles done in 30 minutes, not far off my average time even with taking a 9 week hiatus. I won't lie, I am sore, but it was nice getting back in the swing of things. My only regret was not going to the green to run. It was gorgeous out but I didn't want to take off while the whole house was asleep.
