Philly Distance Run - Updated List as of 9/07

Hi all

Also getting excited for the PDR over here.:cool1:

I'm with Lou in hoping for some good weather, I feel like I have a good shot at a PR if the weather cooperates.

Kira - That's exciting that this will be your first half! If this race is anything like the other Elite Racing events, it should be a great race for a first timer! My first half was last year over Labor Day weekend at the VA Beach Rock 'N' Roll Half Marathon (Still my favorite race weekend experience to date).

Sara - Matt (DH) and I are most likely in for a WISH meet.

Hope everyone else is enjoying their training.

Hi,

I am bumping this up to prominence again and letting everyone know I am up for a WISH meet too. I am sure Cam will come along too even though she won't be participating in this event. I hope everyone is in full training mode and will be well prepared to kick a little a$$ in Philly in September.

Count me in for a WISH meet, too. :cool1:

Is everyone on the race list. Just want to make sure I haven't missed anyone participating in this event.

Terri

I'm definitely in for a meet. My brother is also running this race (I almost said "running with me", but his pace is much faster LOL!).

Any ideas about where and when? I'd certainly be willing to do some legwork to organize it (I've lived in Philly most of my life and know it really well) - however, I've never done anything like this before so I'm not sure what works for people.

Hi everyone! I am going to be ready for this run. I can feel it now!

I was thinking maybe we could have a WISH meet at the Reading Terminal Market, China Town or South Street. I am open for ideas. Something Saturday afternoon when I would be coming up to pick up my packet would work for me. I will bow to the will of the people though!

I am looking forward to seeing everyone and meeting some new friends.

I love Reading Terminal Market, but it might be a little loud and chaotic for a meet. It could be hard to get find a spot where we could hear ourselves think.

We could probably find a good Chinese restaurant that could accommodate us pretty easily. That would be fun.

South Street would be great! Let me think about where we could gather. Any other Philadelphians have an idea (it's been a while since I spent a lot of time on South Street - I used to live 4 blocks from there!)?

Saturday afternoon works for me, but then again I'm local so I'm easy! What about our other out-of-towners - would Saturday afternoon work for you?

I guess it would kinda depend on the out-of-towners. If they're staying at a center city hotel, South Street may be a little out of the way. Chinatown would be nice. We could meet at the Expo. There's a great Chinese restaurant on the corner of 10th & Race called David's Mai Lai Wah. It's very good. I've gone to several dinners there for Chinese New Year's celebrations.

But I'm local, too. Whatever is convenient for everyone else is fine with me.

Terri

Saturday afternoon works great! As far as a location, wherever we can get to on foot or public transportation from city center is fine. Chinese sounds really yummy:yay: . Looking forward to seeing you all real soon:grouphug:

Definitely want to MEET! I'm staying at the Hampton Inn on Race St near the convention center, as are Anne and her DH. Saturday afternoon works fine for me.

Pat - I am also at the Hampton Inn on Race Street. I am driving to Philly with my best friend for a girls only weekend. It will be her first distance event and I am way too psyched for her to meet the WISH'ers:grouphug:

Well, so far it sounds like Saturday afternoon in Chinatown will work. How about for the rest of you?

I'm am more than willing to go with Terri's suggestion (usually in Chinatown I pick a restaurant at random & I don't even remember the name of the place!). Do they have big tables and/or a smaller room we could use?

They have round tables that can seat 8-10. No private room. But I've had Chinese New Year dinner there with 30 people and there was never a problem.

If we can get a count of how many people want to have lunch/dinner there, I can set it up with the restaurant.

Terri

Terri - Thanks for the offer to make the reservations:hug: . That sounds like a great idea and I am bumping this thread up to ask everyone to indicate if they plan on attending the WISH meet on Saturday afternoon and how many people they'll have in their party. Also, we need to decide on a time that works.

I'll be there for a WISH meet and there will be 2 in my party. Any time is good for me.

9 mile LR for me yesterday:banana: with a 10:19 avg pace:cloud9: .

Thanks for bumping this up Sara - I was just thinking about it myself. And Terri thanks again for offering to coordinate.

We will be either 2 or 3 in my party depending on if my brother can make it. I'll get in touch with him soon so I can let you know. And pretty much any time after 2 or 3 pm will work for me.

I did 8 miles yesterday, and while it wasn't the easiest run in the world, I felt really good afterwards yesterday and today. I'm still amazed that I'm capable of running 8 miles! My pace seems to be a pretty reliable 11:30 or so, which means I'm looking at about 2 1/2 hours for the run. I'm due for a 10 miler on Saturday, and I'm following that up with the 5K Livestrong Challenge on Sunday, so it will be almost a simulation of the half marathon! Wish me luck!

Hi team,

My plans are getting a little complicated. Originally I was scheduled to fly into Philly on Friday the 19th, landing at 9AM. But there is a class that week in Boston that my boss wants me to attend. My co-workers are flying out that Monday on SWA to Providence (SWA doesn't do Boston) and one of them is renting a car and driving the group to Norwood (just outside of Boston). That works for me...but it gets a little more difficult because the class doesn't get over on Friday until 5PM and my co-workers have a 8PM flight back to Chicago, however the latest flight from Providence to Philly is 7PM. That is cutting it really, really close. There is a US Air flight out of Providence at 8:15PM that I could take, but now I am looking at arriving at the Philly airport late in the evening. Oh boy. And I originally planned to come home on Sunday afternoon. But if I still do that then I won't have much quality sight-seeing time in Philly. A possibility would be to stay an extra night (if the hotel room is available) and go home Monday. It's always something, isn't it?? I hope to get my plans organized soon! No matter what I am really looking forward to a WISH meet in Philly!!

Count Cam and me in for the WISH meet! :cool1:  :dance3: :cheer2: I'll just have to figure out what time this is going to happen so I can arrange to get to the Expo first to get my race packet, then be available to meet everyone somewhere. Maybe we could even meet at the Expo and go from there? I am not sure (logistically) how this will work out. Someone needs to educate me.

Terri - Why don't we set a deadline for responses for the WISH meet and just make the reservation at that point:thumbsup2 ? How about by Friday, September 5th for a final count? Also, if anyone wants to throw out a time on Saturday afternoonpopcorn:: for the meet...

Pat - I hope your travel plans have all fallen into place:hug: .

Kira - Best of luck with your 10 miler tomorrow:cheer2: . I've got the same on tap and I wish the temps and humidity weren't increasing:sad2: .

Howard - Here I thought you'd be all in the know on this:laughing: . I think Terri, Kira or Lou would best be able to tell us if meeting at the convention center would be the easiest route to meeting up.

I hope everyone's training is going great:banana: !!

The expo is held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center which is on 11th & Arch St. (I usually enter the building at 11th & Filbert, across the street from the Reading Terminal). The convention center is practically in Chinatown so it's not a bad place to meet and then walk over to Chinatown.
