Philly Distance Run - Updated List as of 9/07

I'm inching closer to joining y'all. I just got my fall schedule for school and it looks like I'll be teaching on T & THs only so I can use Fridays and Mondays as traveling days.

Now, I'll just have to check my budget! :scared:

Where's the keeping-my-fingers-crossed smilie?? That would be awesome, and that Dynamic Duo medal is so cool!

I'm officially registered! :cool1:

Today starts my new training schedule. (gave myself a break after Goofy). Of course it's cold, rainy and damp here!

This is the list of WISHERS I have coming to Philly so far for the Distane Run. If I've missed anybody, please let me know.

WDWFAN9 (Pat)
Maherae (Anne)
Kira G.
Kristi1357 (and DH Chad)
Kareneast (Karen)
Sce Ranger (John)
TEK224 (Terri)

If anyone is not renting a car, I'll be happy to play chauffer to/from the airport (save $20 cab fare each way) Just let me know when you're arriving.

Terri

Terri, isn't it AWESOME??!! I would like to suggest that you put the list in your first post. That way we don't have to keep searching for it..and you can UPDATE it as people join in...like escape/Susie!!

I just reserved a room at Hampton Inn $169 with the Macy's pkg. 2 Macy goodie bags upon arrival, 2 tickets to backstage Macy's tour, and $40 Macy's gift card. Don't know if I'll use all that stuff..but it was only $2.50 more than the AARP rate. Yes, folks, there ARE advantages to being older!! :lmao: But the Macy's rate was available to anyone.

Also, you can take the Liberty shuttle from the airport for $10. Not that we don't want to see YOU, Terri!! :goodvibes Anne

Anne - Did Susie register. I know she was thinking about it. Wasn't sure if she was definitely coming.

I updated in the 1st post (learned something new!)

Terri

Terri...not yet, but she's moving closer towards it!! :thumbsup2

First page looks great! Did you mean to put Space Ranger/John as Sce Ranger? ;)

Terri:

I'm in for the PDR. DH and I usually take PATCO in from NJ. We're just a couple miles from Philly.

Gotcha Darcy.

Anne - I fixed SpaceRanger John (lately, the computer isn't keeping up with my typing)

Please put me down for the PDR. I ran it last year for the first time and it's a great race...very flat although the first four miles can get a little congested in Center City (I ended up running on sidewalks to get around people).
Jill

I just booked a non-smoking two double-bed room at the Hampton Inn on Race St (same one as Anne and her DH). I got it for $149 per night as a romance package. I'll get a bottle of champagne and two glasses at check-in.  I went directly to the Hampton Inn website and went from there to get this rate.

Wow I wish I had seen this thread sooner...
first of all, how are you all registering for the race? I see the website (www.philadelphiamarathon.com), but everything is for 2007 - I don't see any of the 2008 info yet? Or are you guys talking about the ING Distance Run in September?

Then, with respect to hotels (sorry to anyone that already booked, but...)
if you go to the Trocadero website (http://www.thetroc.com) and click on "directions", on the right side of the page there are links to various hotels...you can get a stay at the Hampton Inn for ~$109/night...it's a nice hotel, located one block from the convention center and easily accessible by city train from the airport.

I haven't decided if I think I'll be up to running this one yet - I JUST started running and I'm still a certified couch potato! - but I'll at least be there to cheer people on!

Thanks so much for the hotel info! That's a SUPER deal!!!!!

As for the Philadelphia Distance Run (half-marathon), here is the link:
ING Philadelphia Distance Run

Maybe you were going to the Philadelphia Marathon site instead...which is a different event altogether. Also, as Karen (?) mentioned earlier, there is a $10 discount code you can enter to save a little $$.

vscohen - you can do it! I went from super couch potato to running/walking in a half marathon in 4 months. It can be done and I'm proof of that! :teeth:

Thanks again for the info. :woohoo:

Wow! Wow! Wow! That is an amazing price! You don't have to show theater tickets or anything at check-in, do you?

As far as the race goes.....I'm pretty sure it has a 4hr timelimit. I walk at a 16mpm pace, and it takes me about 3.5hrs to finish a half. We'd love to have you there cheering for us, but even better if you are participating with us!!

Pat, I don't think you have to do anything special - at least the Hampton Inn Website didn't say that you had to. :woohoo:

I used it for a convention I went to a while back. I actually came across it because we were going to a show at the Trocadero as part of the convention, so I'm not 100%, but they never asked us to show tickets - so I'm about 99% positive you don't need them.

I'll give running some more thought =) I live only a couple of miles outside of the city as well so it's a no-brainer to go!

Sorry guys! I didn't mean to drop off the face of the earth - I know I promised to look into hotels, but it seems like vscohen found us a fabulous rate at the Hampton Inn!

Chad & I may be up in the air with this race now.:sad1:
He may be offered a FT position at work. Which is great.
BUT, it also means I would be dropping down to PT. The overall cut in pay will make extras like a race out of town harder for us to do.
So until we see how everything comes out in the wash, we can't really sign up for the race yet. I will probably book a hotel just in case though. I don't think Chad will have an answer about his job until April or later. Gives us some time to prepare, but also makes planning any trips or so forth very hard.

My friend Kristi did email me the famous competing cheese steak places:
Geno's & Pat's - right across the street from each other at 9th & Passyunk (I think they were featured on a Travel Channel show once).
BUT she said she found another place that's even more delicious: Jim's on South Street

Krisit - yeah I'd go with Jim's. I haven't been a fan of Pat's and Geno's for a very long time (and I used to work up the street from them.)
