Phillies Ball Drama

This woman went after another fan and screamed in his face. She then stood and gave a round of middle fingers to the crowd. I think she is the only jerk in this situation.

I feel the dad handled it well and didn't go off on a woman that grabbed his arm. She is lucky she was able to touch someone without permission and didn't get pushback. I am happy his child was given some merch.

I think it is fascinating how different people view different situations. I love different viewpoints.
I never said she wasn’t a jerk. She was.

But the dad was also a jerk. He shoved someone out of the way and the woman claimed (in the link you provided, BTW) that she had the ball in her hand and he took it away from her. Where is the outrage for that? Why is there only outrage for her grabbing his arm? He is absolutely 100% a jerk.

And the reason why she flipped off the other fans was because they were heckling her and taunting her. They were also 100% jerks. Or, in your mind did she deserve such treatment?

It nice that the kid got some swag for his birthday but I also think it rewards the jerky dad for his jerky agressive behavior.

I think people are assuming she is lying. Who would believe a nut that stands in a stadium and gives the middle finger to everyone? Her "claims" aren't believe by the majority of the people weighing in online.

I like how he de-escalated the situation and gave her the ball.
Maybe because he knew he was in the wrong and snatched it out of her hand?

FTR, I personally think that kids should get most foul balls and home runs. It means a lot more to them than it does an adult. I would be super mad in her situation and I might have said something to the dad for taking it from me but I would let the kid keep the ball.

Of course no one wants to believe a “Karen”. The whole narrative is about how entitled she is and they will believe anything that supports it.

What would you do if you had people taunting you and screaming at you? Calling you names? Say “thank you”?

BTW, I did watch the video again and she was reaching for the ball from the row above so I do stand corrected on that detail. Thanks for pointing that out. Unfortunately, we can’t see if she had the ball in her hand or if it was on the ground.

Ignore them. Probably go to the restroom and gather myself. Or even just leave the game depending on how out of control I felt.

Trust me, peri-menopause has me a little nutty myself these days. Feeling rage like I have never felt in my life. It's shocking how I feel some days. But, I would never give the middle finger in public or approach people and scream in their face.

I can understand why people took his side. It’s better to keep your composure than not. Hard to say who owns full responsibility without knowing exactly what went down.

She was horrible to that man and his son. She then doubled down on it when the crowd rightly called her out on it. She deserves every ounce of the shaming she's received and will continue to receive.

I also hate to see her lose her job. I think she'll pay a big enough price with the social media lambasting she's (correctly, IMHO) receiving.

I've watched the replay numerous times, and it appears they both reached for the ball at the same time in the seat in front of her, and in that same row as the dad. For anyone who's been at a game and seen foul balls or hr balls go into the stands (or even when players will occasionally toss a ball into the stands), there will be dozens of bodies and hands trying to grab the ball. And when someone has it, it's over - folks head back to their seats. 9 times out of 10, the ball ends up with a child someplace in the stands. The only scuffles I can recall in the stands are over a special hr ball that might be worth money. I still see nothing that the dad did wrong. He walked up his row and the ball bounced to where he picked it up first. That scene happens dozens of times every night in every ball park. It might be a little more obvious in Miami where they struggle to fill the seats. He didn't push anyone away or grab an arm (like she did afterwards). And he immediately gave the ball to the boy for his birthday.

Was the woman wrong? I absolutely think so. Did she deserve all the harassment and threats after? Clearly not. It's also obvious that the staffs of the Marlins and Phillies both thought what she did was out of line taking the ball from the boy - hence the bag of goodies for the boy from the Marlins (not something that I've seen done very often, and a very nice gesture by them) and the invitation by the Phillies back to the clubhouse to meet with the player who hit the homer (which almost never happens, also a nice touch). In that situation, I'm glad the dad just gave her the ball. It could have gotten much uglier, and he didn't want that for the boy, especially not over a $15 baseball!
