Philadelphia means only one thing...

My husband has had a busy month as far as business travel goes. He has been to California (meh) New York (eh) Connecticut (yawn) and he just landed in Philadelphia. He sent me a text, something about the airline sending the luggage to a different terminal and something about stuck cargo doors on the plane.

However, all I could think about was the fact that he's in Philadelphia- home to TASTYKAKES!!!! Nervermind about stuck cargo doors or wayward luggage. I just wanted to be clear that he understood I expect him to fill his luggage with Tastykakes for the return flight.:rotfl: :woohoo:

If not I will have to find a fairy to take care of that fix. Gosh we drove to Allentown from up here few weeks ago and had Popeye's. Next door was a Philly pretzle factory, I brought home 50 and froze them for about $22.

Tasty Kakes have gone up in $$$ so rediculous. I remember buying for 50 cents not long agon, and now for a pie it is $1.
When the boxes of Kream filled or the Butterscotch Krimpets are on sale I will buy as a treat.

Last trip to Philly we stopped for steaks and also it $$$$ I could not believe it.
Have you tried cutting a flank or whatever it is they cut and cooking up the peppers and onions? Add Wiz, or wizless.... I use a marinara for those that want the sauce, and just Heinz ketchup.

All in the rolls, find a tasty fresh baked steak roll.
Hope he finds a way to get the Kakes....:goodvibes

...sorry to change the subject, but, are you 'in mourning'...?? :rolleyes1

I didn't know that was reginal either! What about UTZ? I love Grandma Utz! or Aunti Annes pretzels?

I remember those when I was little. That, cheesesteaks and the sticky buns from the flea market that my parents would pick up for Sunday morning breakfast. (the buns, not the other stuff.).

I was delighted the year I discovered that my local publix...IMPORTS THEM.

Butterscotch krimpets are my favorite and they have two other kinds. But they aren't my favorites so I do not know what they are called. One is the chocolate covered peanut butter thing and the other--totally don't know what it is.

But maybe ask your local publix to begin stocking those yummy philadelpha confections!

Funny story--last pregancy, first trimester, still sick--but totally craving butter scotch krimpets.

Well, I go with my krimpet onto my pool patio and for the first time ever--misstepped and fell into my pool. As soon as I realize what is going on-I toss my tastykake into the hair to save it.

As soon as I service, DH is asking if I'm okay. And I'm like--yes--but what about my tastykake.

I hate to say it--but yes, my tastykake was more important than the baby. I blame him--he wanted it.:lmao:

I hear "Philadelphia" and the only thing I can think of is "scrapple".. Had it at my aunts house there - the first and only time..;)

Had it all the time--but after..can't recall his name at the moment--lives in the philly area, has twin daughters, and loves to grill...

Yeah--he posted the recipe in his "siggy":scared1: and am now cured of that. Ate it all the time while living up there. But good gosh--didn't know what was in it. No more cravings.

If I remember correctly it tasted like that canned Spam or Treet.. I don't know if it had the same ingredients though..

I never did spam....

But I will tell you, we had it as a breakfast item with syrup. I recall it being a little "sausage" like. And after knowing the ingredients--I now get why.:lmao:

What are TastyKakes? I am flying into Philadelphia this summer and don't want to miss out!

They are more than just "cupcakes" The brand Tastykake covers a lot of confections.

They make cream filled single serve pies. They make coffee cakes. They make "krimpets", which are something like a cup cake. They also make these things - forget the exact name - but they are like chocolate covered cakes with peanut butter in the center. I think they call them TandyKakes...

They make chocolate covered pretzel rods, too. And, yes, they make "cupcakes".

My favorite is the Eclair.

AFAIK, all of these can be bought in boxes except the pies. Individual servings are under $1, IIRC.

LOL... can't remember me? I am absolutely crushed, and saddened. ;)

Scrapple is AWESOME! Everything included but the "oink'!

....:faint:

I'm officially in love with TastyKakes! I was in Walmart (shudder) last night and ran across these lovely little peanut butter delights. I've read about them in the Stephanie Plum series and here on the DIS, but I never thought they'd make it to my neck of the woods.

My DH is from Connecticut, and he couldn't believe that I'd never heard of TastyKakes. Well, I have now and boy am I in trouble! I'll have to get him to hide them around the house, so I don't devour a whole box in one sitting.

Okay, too lazy to read the whole thread, but we have TastyKakes here, just PM and I will send you a Christmas package...
