My husband has had a busy month as far as business travel goes. He has been to California (meh) New York (eh) Connecticut (yawn) and he just landed in Philadelphia. He sent me a text, something about the airline sending the luggage to a different terminal and something about stuck cargo doors on the plane.

However, all I could think about was the fact that he's in Philadelphia- home to TASTYKAKES!!!! Nervermind about stuck cargo doors or wayward luggage. I just wanted to be clear that he understood I expect him to fill his luggage with Tastykakes for the return flight.:rotfl: :woohoo:

What are TastyKakes? I am flying into Philadelphia this summer and don't want to miss out!

Tastykakes are a rand of cupcakes that come in all kinds of yummy flavors. My favs are chocolate juniors and butterscotch krimpets!

make sure he brings you back a cheesesteak and a philly pretzel!!

I don't like cheesesteak, although my husband loves it. What is a Philly pretzel? I might need one of those!

I've started several threads in the past about Tastykakes and the fact that I can no longer get them here on the west coast. Tastykakes are the most delicious cupcakes ever! Well, IMO anyway! Try some this summer, and if you don't like them, send me the leftovers.:)

Love the chocolate juniors and the ones with the buttercream frosting.:woohoo:

I grew up there, but left when I joined the Navy when I was 18, and I'm glad I did 'cause if I was still there, I'd eat butterscotch krimpets at least three times a week. Plus, hoagies and cheesesteaks, of course.

Tastykake has a website and you can order it from anywhere and have it sent to your home. So far, I've avoided doing that. I have a friend who sends me some for my birthday and I'm content with having them once a year. For now.

My husband owned a tastykake route for many years......

If you ever want any, just PM me, I will be more than happy to send you a care package.

I am in Maryland and didn't realize that Tastykakes were regional. My favorite are chocolate juniors.

Have you ever had Berger cookies? They are from Baltimore and are to die for.

I had no idea Tastycakes were regional either!! And Philly pretzels are soft pretzels, but they just taste so much better than normal. So doughy and delicious!

has anyone tried the peppermint ones that they put out at Christmas time. YUMMY. But I do love the PB kandy kakes. OH and to the OP if your DH does get you a philly pretzel, he has to buy it the day he leaves and you eat it asap. you can also store them in a ziploc bag in a freezer. oh and you need guldens mustard.

The problem with the website is that you have to order by the case, and you can't mix and match to get only your favorites. However, I just did an internet search and found a candy company that sells Tastykakes in boxes of 6. They don't sell a big variety, but they do have the chocolate juniors.:)

I'll have to try a pretzel next time I'm in Philly! Sounds good!

For some reason, although we get lots of Tastykakes around here, they don't stock the chocolate juniors (dd12's only junk food addiction). We load up when we visit my dad. However, one time when it had been a while, we chased a Tastykake truck. :lmao: (Didn't catch it, though.)

Nope and neither is Rita's Water Ice or Wawas...I just found out about Rita's I really thought that it was.

Everytime I visit my best friend, or she comes up to visit, we always have to stock her up with TastyKakes.

Tell him to get you some Spice Cake Krimpets! Tis the season, and they are AWESOME!

Yeah, we definitely do not have tastykakes in this part of the nation!

I have family in Colorado and everytime I go there, or they come here, there is pretty much a suitcase filled with tastykakes for them!

If you'd like to try lots of Philly 'yummies' or need a taste of home, try either of these...

They have packs of Tastycakes, Philly pretzels, cheesesteaks, etc., and ship all over the country. The second has good combinations of sandwiches and snacks. We send one to DH's aunt in CA every once in a while when she is particularly homesick or for a holiday gift. She says the cheesesteaks and hoagies are quite good, and LOVES the tastycakes!

I only know about Tasty Kakes from reading the Stephanie Plum books. We don't have them here. My parents lived in Philadelphia for 2 years and we somehow missed knowing about Tasty Kakes.
