Sara - Sorry. I was just hoping for a waving smiley.:confused3
 I'm just busting on you:thumbsup2 I have been running when I can and sticking with the yoga and Pilates to keep me sane in the interim. I am thinking of running the Lake Placid 1/2 marathon in June since I hesitate to commit to a full marathon before I get the leg healed.

Howard - Thanks for the registration reminder:banana: . Once I am back in the office in the a.m. I will call the Embassy Suites again. Sweet pace on the 3 miles:woohoo: .

Cindy - Nice job on the 10 miles:cheer2: . Sorry about the blister:wizard: . I would not pop it unless you have to due to the infection risk.

Colleen - Nice v-day present;) ! I hope it works out well for you once you get to play with it some more.

Lou - :rotfl2: :rotfl: I have a really good friend who has lived in Philly his entire life and he would definitely agree no way to the tights or tight shorts for fear of getting beaten up.

Jodi, Dave & Chester - :wave2:

I've been running sporadically (to me that's not every day) and trying to maintain at least 20 miles per week. I miss not having a training plan to adhere to since I am just so regimented in my daily life:rolleyes1 . I do have one on my fridge for the 1/2 I want to sign up for so we'll seepopcorn:: .

Happy President's Day:cheer2:

Sara - You can wear tights or shortie shorts as long as you can run REAL fast. Lake Placid sounds like a great place for a race.

Cindy - Nice job on the 10. The blister sounds nasty. May feel better to pop it, especially if you are running on it.

Mike - 18 miles? You're already set for another marathon. Nice job!

Howard - Nice of you to stop by. Good luck with school.

Colleen - Nice V-day gift. Can't help you with instructions because I just have the simple little digital one.

Jodi - What's new?

Chester, Stevex2, and those I missed...Happy President's Day!

I knocked out 13 miles down A.C. yesterday. I had some extra time and decided to make the drive.

I started at the south end of the island at Longport and headed towards A.C. I passed through Margate and then Longport where you basically have multi-million dollar homes along the boardwalk/beach. Then you hit A.C. and the casinos. Lots of $$$$$$$ in the casinos but plenty of poverty (homeless people, prostitutes, and pimps) along the boardwalk...very nice. You continue for a few miles of casinos and then you hit the north end of A.C. Here you will find a stretch of poverty along an ocean that is as bad as it gets. Other than Tiajuana, I haven't seen so many boarded up buildings with ocean front views anywhere in North America. However, you continue towards the bay/marina and it's back to millionaires and a couple more casinos. All this in a 6.5 mile stretch of boardwalk.

Howard, if you want to write your thesis on the American economy you can't find a better study area than Atlantic City. Just run along the boardwalk and take notes.

Lou: Thanks for both notes. I am taking Corporate Strategy, Buyer Behavior, and Business Ethics in addition to an independent study for marketing. I have been along the boards in AC quite a few times. What a melting pot! I've actually run down there once too... it's been a few years though.

I'll stop in from time to time as I get an opportunity. Keep the home fires burning!

Howard

Hello everyone

I actually got a little workout today but clearly have a LONG way to go.
1 hr XT but only a sad little 2 1/2 miles on the treadmill. I felt great but knees are still hurting a bit so decided to stop. :headache: Any advice on knee health?

Dave & Sara-I hope your injuries are healing well.:goodvibes

Cindy-Great 10 miles & on a blister too! Ouch!:cool1:

Lou-Your 13 mile run certainly sounded interesting. Do you travel to Atlantic City often? :drive: I've never been...not sure now I want to go.

Mike-18 miles! Really! :worship:

Colleen-What a nice V-day gift! If you do get a pic of Lance...please share...Please! :lovestruc How's the job going?

Howard-It sounds like you're swamped are keeping a good work/life balance. Good luck with the classes! I'm taking Strategies for Competitive Advantage, Transformational Leadership & Strategic Implementation & Alignment. Not too bad but looking forward to being done. :surfweb:

Hi to anyone that I may have missed.:)

Well...off to bed I go. Have a great week everyone!

Howard - Business Ethics? That's an oxymoron, isn't it?

Angela - I am in A.C. a lot now. I have a client there and I go in for fun from time to time. Now I run there. I actually do not gamble anymore but I do love the restauants and shopping in A.C. They have some incredible places to eat (Buddakan, Continental, Carmines, Cuba Libre), many of which are from Philly or NYC. However, I like the A.C. versions of most of them.

Angela - Sorry, no real help on the knee. Have you had troubles before? Those are some fun sounding classes  .

Lou - Good that you had lots of variety to keep your A.C. run interesting. Stay safe.

Howard - More fun sounding classes. Hope they are going well.

Cindy - Pop that blister! Just leave the covering skin intact and the risk of infection is very low. Holy crap, I can't imagine trying to run with one all puffy and fluid-filled.

Have the rest of you guys bailed on us for good?

I did my 18 miler yesterday. Let's just say it was a struggle and leave it at that. Everyone always says that the bad ones really make you appreciate a good run. I'll be doing a lot of appreciating!

Rest day today but I did a Pilates class on On-Demand just to see what it's all about. I'm sure I didn't do anything correct enough for any strengthening but it sure was a good stretch. I might try another one later today. I even had some additional weight resistance since DD4 seemed to want to hang all over me since I was on the floor :headache: .

See ya!

OMG:lmao: I would have paid money to see that show:thumbsup2 . My kids love getting REAL close when I am trying to workout in the living room and it drives me crazy. Pilates is really tough but the benefits are definitely worth it. I too am wondering what's up with my gal pals and their lack of posting:confused3 .

Lou - Nice job on the 13 miles:cool1: . I've never been to AC but maybe someday...

Angela - I hope your knees feel better soon:wizard: . Great job on the 2.5 miles:banana: .

The Embassy Suites is still showing the marathon rate as tentative...

I am keeping my fingers crossed about the leg since I ran twice yesterday and this morning as well with no apparent ill effects:yay: .

Hey Guys!

Still here, not bailing at all!!

Lou - Nice job on the A.C. run:thumbsup2 It is really weird down there, huh? Last time I was there was when I was a paramedic. Some guy had a heart attack down there & we had to transport him back home after his stay in ICU:rotfl: ...oops, I guess that's not funny, but it seemed funny at the time:confused3 .

Sara - Hey Wench! How's that leg? Fess up, you KNOW you've been running on it. And what's with all the drama you speak of on the other thread? What's doin' over there? popcorn:: Who had surgery? Sheesh, you're gone 2 days from this thread & it takes hours to catch up. Is there anyone you can complain to @ that PHilly hotel so we can secure our rooms, already?:yay: Lake Placid, eh? When in June is this thing????? I may have to take a ride up.:woohoo:

Mike - I can't wait til Bruce gets home so I can tell him you did pilates!:lmao: Listen closely around 6 pm, you might hear the laughing from CT!! I can't believe you ran 18 miles yesterday:worship: :worship: I officially feel like a lazy piece of crap now, thank you very much! Nice job, dude.

Colleen - NIce V-Day present! ARe you making the trek to Boston? Are you walking? Have you gone back to the farm in Canada & there's no internet reception up there? Or are you just too busy with work? Oh I know, you're out spending your first paycheck!!popcorn::

Chester & Dave - Come back, dudes!!:guilty: :confused3 Where are you guys? And don't give me that "I've been too busy with REAL LIFE stuff" excuse!

Cindy - POP THAT BEE-ATCH, NOW! Then pour rubbing alcohol on it:scared1: . That should heal it up just fine;) Nice way to crank the miles out in such discomfort, though. I'd've just went home & cried.:sad2:

Howard - Those classes you are taking sound pretty darn heinous! Good luck & thanks for stopping in...and for reminding us that Philly Registration opens up soon. NICE PACE!

Not much on the training front here, people. Let's see...I don't even remember the last time I posted. I ran 6 Fri. (think I already posted that), 4 Sat. 6 Sun. & 4 yesterday. Nothing today as I feel a bit achy & have a stuffy/sneezy thang goin' on in my head. Stupid head!

I still haven't signed up for anything yet...Everest, Minnie, Tower of Terror, et al. Only thing on my horizon is that ultra & after the last few runs I've had, 31 miles seems like an AWFULLY tall order:confused3 . Oh well, I suppose I'll live. Does no one wanna come down/up to NYC in August for their 1/2?:rolleyes1 Come on! It'd be way to much fun!!

Colleen-What a nice V-day gift! If you do get a pic of Lance...please share...Please! :lovestruc How's the job going?

Ha, thanks, we RARELY exchange for Valentine's Day, DH and I usually don't buy into this Hallmark Holiday,:rotfl: so I was SO surprised when he gave this to me. DS10 also started on the swim team last month, so now that we have two kids swimiming, he thought we needed to get some good shots.

Angela, sore knees? First thing to look at is your shoes.

I will be sure to try and capture Lance. DH made it through 12 miles this weekend with 8.5 weeks to go.:scared1: I convinced him to get get a professional massage and it really helped. He has started to gain back some confidence now that he isn't aching so much anymore.

Jodi, pick an event and I will try and be there. New York, is there anything to do in that city??:rolleyes1

Mike, I am going to make an editorial, but only remember I say this because I CARE! I am concerned about you ramping up your miles again so quickly, please, please, please listen to your body. Didn't you just run 2 marathons?

Which brings me to a funny story....my 5th grade students I tutor are really quite adorable, they now call me their "Math Mommy"! Isn't that sweet!

Sara, no pain,  that is so great!

Lou, yeah on your 13 miles!!

Hi Howard, Chester, Dave, Stevex2!!

Lake Placid, eh? When in June is this thing????? I may have to take a ride up.:woohoo:
The Lake Placid 1/2 is on June 15th:cheer2: . I would be REALLY psyched if you came to run it with me:hug: . I will be doing a Jodi since I have to drive to Boston that afternoon for a Monday morning business meeting. If you make Lake Placid then I promise to come down to NYC for their 1/2:thumbsup2 . That's totally doable for me as a solo day trip.

UH OH, I see a road trip in my future...plans being made...full tank of gas...beautiful Lake Placid in the late spring & NYC in the dog days of summer! Plus the fact that they are both 1/2 marathons doesn't hurt either...HMMMMMM......And perhaps the DL 1/2 won't be the same weekend as the NYC half.....:cheer2:

I just checked the website & it looks like the NYC 1/2 is on July 27th this year!!!

:yay:  :cool1: :cheer2: :thumbsup2 I am marking my calendar for the 27th! I have relatives that live in Tarrytown which is a real short train ride away so I will bunk there the night before:woohoo: . I guess I'd better update my siggie with some accurate race data.

BTW, I forgot to tell you guys that I have actually taken first place in the female 30-39 2007 long course grand prix for The Adirondack Runners:confused3 . I have to go pickup my hardware at the awards ceremony on the 28th so I will see if DH can snap some pics. I guess I can pretend to be a real runner for a night:rotfl:

Colleen - That is really too sweet about the 5th graders:love: . I am sure you're really good with them (way more patience than me:rotfl2: ). It's great Jeff took your advice and is feeling better after the massage.

Jodi - :wizard: for your head clearing up ASAP. When's that Ultra:scared1: ?

Dave - Thanks for checking in! I hope you're hanging in there and the job outlook is brighter.

Mike - You weren't sporting spandex while doing Pilates were you;) ?

At the risk of you guys busting on me I have another confession to make. In my no running psychosis I purchased fitness equipment from an infomercial:lmao: I had been looking at the Fluidity bar for a while and I figured why not since non-impact may be my destiny for a while. I have had it for a week or so and I love it:cloud9: . Anything that kicks my butt is a good time:woohoo: . I literally cry and have uncontrollable shaking in my leg muscles from this thing. It's like a ballet bar with videos to use and resistance bands and as an added bonus both of my gymnast DD's are having a blast with it. I am hoping it will actually give me some sort of a butt since running doesn't seem to help me out with that.

Two miles on the TM, Fluidity and yoga for me this morning. Yes, I've been up since 3:00 a.m.:hippie: . Maybe a few more miles tonight if I'm feeling inspired, crazy, etc:thumbsup2 .

Happy training to all this week:cheer2:

Hey guys and gals ,

Life has taken over, layoffs are happening right and left, and worrying about keeping a job is at the forefront. So, with that in mind, I'm taking next week off and going skiing with the guys. I'm leaving Sunday for Salt Lake City and will return on Friday the 29th. Right now I'm in the middle of 2 weeks off from running. My training will still continue as if I will be doing the Country Music Marathon 4/26 when I get back. Skiing counts as cross training right?

Chester
W.I.S.H. Half-Fast Marathon Team

Chester - Hoping all goes well on the job front. Good plan going skiing! XT for sure. Don't hurt yourself (you know, by tripping over some lodge bunny or something).

Sara
- Way to go on your first place award!! You can put it on the shelf right next to your Thigh-master, Popeal Pocket Fisherman, and Ronco Vegimatic! Probably should seal it in one of those vaccuum storage bags first though.

Sorry, no spandexed pilates for me. I'd say I did them in the buff but I already said DD4 was crawling all over me and that's just creepy.

Speaking of spandex (and creepy): I saw this older guy out riding his bike when I was running on Monday. Boney little legs, grey hair, wearing light lavender tights. I immediately thought of Lou running for his life in Philly:rotfl: !

Mike, I am going to make an editorial, but only remember I say this because I CARE! I am concerned about you ramping up your miles again so quickly, please, please, please listen to your body. Didn't you just run 2 marathons?
Math Mommy - I hear what you're saying and can't really say you're wrong. I can, however rationalize it by telling myself that I really am feeling pretty darn good, that almost all of my miles have been run slower than my normal training pace, and that most of my runs have gone pretty well. Plus, if I wasn't running I'd have to do something productive around the house:scared1: .

I'll blame Monday's debacle on running after working all night and running in shoes that are past their prime for 18 mile LR's (easier to blame the shoes, don't ya know).

Your concern is much appreciated and not taken lightly. Thanks.

I did a nice and easy 8+ this morning, picked up DD4 from preschool, made her lunch, and played Wii with her for a bit. I'd really love a nap but that's not gonna happen. I really am a lazy slug at heart.

Hi.

Busy at work, blah, blah, blah. I'm tired of typing it and I'm sure you're tired of reading it. My email doesn't seem to be working right. I'm getting alerts that people posted hours and days later.

Did intervals yesterday. They were fine. Did not pop blister. It hurt a bit. Today was rest day. Weather is supposed to really suck for the next 2 days - predicting a "feels like" 6 degrees for tomorrow morning and wintery mix nonsense for Friday morning. Perfect weather for a 4 miler followed by an 8 mile tempo run. (Where's the sarcastic smiliey?)

I'm in a crappy mood today, can you tell?

Angela - I have constant knee pain. I take glucosamine every day and I do think it helps. But I've had bad knees for years. If this is something new, maybe you want to look at what you are doing differently? Colleen's shoe suggestion makes sense. Also, I know some people have knee problems with the treadmill but not outside.

Mike - At least it was the 18 miler that sucked, right? You sort of expect some of the long ones to go badly, its when the short ones do too that I start to get concerned.

Sara - Congrats on the award! I'm glad you were able to run with no pain. I guess from the update to your siggie that you are not going to do the Minnie. :sad1: Too bad, it would have been nice to get to meet you for longer than a quick hi at mile 25. I guess I will have to wait til Philly. Jodi and Colleen are you also dissing the mouse?

Chester - have a great time skiing!

Lou - sounds like an interesting run.

:wave2: Hi to all I've missed.

A half in NYC on July 27th actually sounds interesting. DH has never been to NYC, which I find incredibly weird. (He did live most of his life in California, but still . . .)

Back to work blah, blah, blah.

Wow! Lots of activity on the thread today.

Cindy - I feel your pain. The weather here is just as drab and work isn't getting me too fired up either. Sorry about the continuing blister problem.

Mike - 8 easy miles? You are the miles champion of this thread. Way to go man!

Chester - Sorry about the job issues. Things are tough up here too. We actually had the IRS stop in my company last week because our bookkeeper "forgot" to pay our taxes. That mistake will lead to layoffs I'm sure. I actually have an associate that owns an engineering firm in NJ that is trying to branch out in FL (Hollywood) in 2008. I just had lunch with him. PM me if you're interested.

Sara - The fluidity bar? Never heard of it but if it works for you that's all that counts.

Jodi - The NYC 1/2 sounds interesting. Assuming I don't get into the NYC marathon maybe this is a nice runner up race. Although it could be insanely hot/humid for that race.

Colleen - Good luck snagging a pic of Lance as he sprints by.

Angela - 2.5 miles on the TM isn't bad. My knees hurt a lot last summer. Ice and Tylenol are the way to go for normal pain and stress from running. Get it checked if it doesn't go away.

Hi to everyone I missed.

I did 6 miles on the TM today. 4 of them were at race pace. It was real cold this AM so I wasn't going outside. Now we have snow so it works out well that tomorrow is rest day although I may do some yoga because I am kind of liking it. I need more stretching.

Lou

News sort of related to the MCM. They dug the Awakening out of the ground today and moved it. I think that is kind of sad. Many people looked forward to seeing it on that long stretch of the MCM. (The Awakening is a multi piece sculpture that looks like a man trying to climb/crawl his way out of the ground. You used to run past it around mile 17 of the MCM.)

Oh, forgot to ask who has a SLR camera and knows how to use it?

Guess what I got for Valentine's Day??? I have trouble figuring out what buttom to push my point and shoot:rotfl: , don't know why DH thinks I could learn how to use a Nikon SLR.:confused3

Anyway, I want it to take multiple shots of the kids swimming in swim meets. I have played around with it a bit, but can't get the settings correct, either blurry action shots or too dark when I increase the shutter speed.:confused3

So this is where you are hiding now. ;) I have a Nikon SLR and can help out with some of the settings, as long as you don't get too complex though. :rolleyes1 Just let me know.

Bill

Life has taken over, layoffs are happening right and left, and worrying about keeping a job is at the forefront.
Chester- I hear you with the keeping a job worries. Good luck with everything, and have fun skiing. Sounds like you have a good attitude about everything. Hope it all works out.
