Jodi - I'm in Baltimore hitting up my Philly friend for hotel information for the marathon we're training for on this thread. 53 weeks out and counting:cheer2: Anywho:rolleyes1 , he said we should probably go with the Embassy Suites on Ben Franklin Parkway or the Crowne Paza on Market Street. Once we're within range on the Hilton site I will check it out for us:thumbsup2 .

Disney Wench - Travel Safe and glad you had a great time in the World. Did you book the bouncebackpopcorn::

Mike - Thanks for asking about my race:hug: . I managed a 1:25:33 per Garmin for the 15K which is a 9:04 avg min/mi. The course has two BIG hills which is bad but the post-race party was great. Hot homemade soup, pizza, open fire, etc. Yes, I am in Baltimore today and tomorrow so I hope to be back posting again once I am home. Have you got in any runs:cheer2: ?

Chester - :wizard: for your knee. I am probably not the best person to offer advice:rotfl: on this issue but please try to rest it as much as possible before you have to ramp up the mileage. I do like your revised training plan and I hope it works well for you.

Dave - I hope you're doing well and please check in with us when you're able:grouphug:

Cindy - Once again, I should not be speaking of knees, but I do hope you're able to manage the issue so you're not doing any damage with the running:wizard: .

I broke it to DH that I will be taking a solo trip to WDW for the Minnie so he is on board. I took the day off today from training with the race yesterday and traveling today. I am hoping to get up early enough in the a.m. to run before my meetings.

Good Morning Teammates: :surfweb:

I ran yesterday, and had a great run. I think I did about 3.5 miles. My Garmin didn't get a signal until late. However, my goal was to do a hill workout so I wasn't so concerned about distance. I ran a really hilly course outside, and did 2x repeats on the big steep hill on the course. I felt great. I'm going to try to increase the number of hill repeats as time goes on.

Sara- great job on your 15K in Baltimore. That's an awesome pace! Your leg must be feeling pretty good these days. Thanks for looking into Philly hotels too. Ooooh, I love Embassy Suites. They are sooo comfy. Pricy, but nice.

Jodi- Nice job on your 6 miler. You are really getting the miles in. So I think the reason my run on Saturday stunk was because of allergies. I was laid out on Sunday thinking I had a cold, but when I finally took some allergy medicine it went away.

Colleen- Wow, 40% off on Villas, that sounds really cool. Hope you guys had a great weekend at the world. Hope your leg is feeling better too.

Cindy- Yahoo! You and I building up to 5 runs/week. We'll see how it goes. I would really like to shoot for sub-4 hours at Philly next year. I need to work on speed work though. That's why I'm putting some hills into my workout.

Chester- Hope your knee is feeling better. Stabbing pain doesn't sound good at all.

Mike- Wow, 7 days in a row of the night shift. That's killer. That must be really hard to balance family duty, running, etc. My hat's off to you buddy.

My knee is also feeling better today. I got in 3 easy miles on the TM last night. I'll probably run on the TM 2 more times this week but that is it. I think I'll be as injury-free as I can get for the marathon on Sunday. I have a bunch of things going on this week that will keep my mind of of this weekend. I figure I'll have plenty of time to focus on Sunday when the weekend comes.

Lou

I am hoping to get up early enough in the a.m. to run before my meetings.
Sara - What, do they have 5AM meetings scheduled? :rotfl2: Wow!! Great job on the race! I guess you're even faster without all of us bothering you, trying to chat you up.

Lou - Enjoy the taper this week. Keep that knee happy.

Dave - Good job on the hill repeats. Sooner or later I'm going to have to develop a plan that includes those and some structured speed work instead of just going out and running.

The work schedule is a little tricky but really allows more time with the girls than if I worked a traditional schedule.

Colleen - Way to go on the full liter. I'm usually pretty carefree after one of those and am always amazed to see the little 80 year old ladies knockin' them back. Have a safe trip home.

Jodi - Guinness in the glue bottle sounds good as long as you don't shake it up too much! I've got 16 miles on tap for this weekend, and yes, that sounds like too far.

I ran 6 miles yesterday, plan on 8 today. Kathy and I are going to a new running store today to check out shoes. I think they videotape your gait, so it could be fun.

Take care everyone.

I ran 4 miles this morning and I felt terrific, amazing, etc.  It was one of those runs that make me happy that I became a runner. I know that I have lost speed while training for the MCM because I followed Hal Higdon's advice and didn't do any speed work at all during marathon training. I went from doing easy 3 to 4 mile runs at around a 9:45ish mpm pace to around 10:10. Today I decided that I wanted to run a little faster and I didn't bring my footpod or check my splits so I didn't know how fast I ran until the end. I ended up doing the 4 miles in 37:10! That is a pretty fast training run for me. And it felt great!

Dave - glad to hear that your first weekday run was also an improvement over the weekend. Seems like we have similar ideas about trying to get faster. I ran the "hilly way" last Wednesday and I haven't run that route since early summer.

Jodi - I lived in North Haven from birth to 18 (I was born in the hospital in New Haven, not the house in North Haven). Where are you?

Sara - thanks for the :wizard: I do think my knee issues were much worse with other sports than with running, I am just a bit paranoid because of what has happened before. As for long term damage . . . :rolleyes1 Great job on the race. That's an awesome pace:)

Mike - From things you've said it seems that you do not live too far away from me. Where is the new running store you are going to? I am on my fourth pair of Saucony Omnis, and have no intention of changing, but Matt (DH) seems to never get a shoe that works quite right for him (and his oddly shaped feet) and he has been fitted at three different running stores. Maybe the video taping thing would help get a better fit, at least for the way that he runs.

Colleen - Glad to hear that you liked Rose and Crown. I am planning a big all out WDW trip for me and Matt (DH) (it will be his first) for late August and have been giving a lot of thought to ADRs (we really, really like to eat - why do you think I started running?:rotfl: those extra calories had to be burned off somehow) and was thinking that trying to get a patio table at Rose and Crown to see Illuminations might be a good idea.

Chester - Hope that your knee is better and that you have been able to run pain free.

Lou - enjoy the taper. Glad to hear that your knee is better.

My knee seems back to normal today. I'm going to take it for a 4 mile spin tonight.

Cindy and Dave
I really enjoy a 5 day running week. I first used it for 07 Mickey and then again for 07 MCM. I run Tue, Wed, Thurs, Sat and Sun.

Lou
Good luck this weekend.

Sara
For once, I plan on erring on the side of caution and will baby my knee. I will not go through what I went through last year after the X-Country Marathon. I had no long runs last year after Nov 19th because of knee problems and had to walk after 16 miles to finish 07 WDW.

Sara
Have a safe journey home. Good luck returning to training.

Signing up today to do my 3rd Muddy Buddy with DS18 on May 10th, 2008. Anybody else?

Chestlink - Glad to hear the knee is feeling better:yay: . Good thinking to baby that thing:thumbsup2 ! Don't forget, it'll get enough of a workout on Jan 12 & 13:scared1: .

Lou - Enjoy your build up to this Sun!:thumbsup2 . This is when your belly feels weird & you can't think of anything else! We'll anxiously be awaiting a report.

Cindy - North Haven, eh? I work right off exit 8 off 91! I live in Middletown, grew up in New Canaan. :thumbsup2 WTG on your 4 miles today! Glad it was better than Sat.:headache: . I think I'm going to do as you & try & run 5x a week. :sad2:

Dave - Hill work, huh?:thumbsup2 . I suppose that is something I'm going to have to incorporate here pretty soon...Bruce swears by it. But then again, his legs are about as long as my entire body & he seems to be cut out for this running thing a lot more than yours truly:rotfl2: .

Sara - Glad to know you're on the hotel watch as you picked a terrific one for MCM!!:thumbsup2 What is UP with that PACE???:woohoo: :dance3: . Good for you, woman. I sorta missed the whole thing that you were going to run a 15k. When & where was it:confused3 . Must have been in my flu-shot fog that day! popcorn:: How's Baltimore:rolleyes: . Get home safe! And stop running so dang fast, be careful w/ that stress fx.

Colleen - Hope you're back home & somehow all the :laundy: is done already!

Mike - How'd you & Kathy make out w/ your videotaping gig today? Will you be submitting this on youtube?:lmao: . I run in Saucony Grid Stabil 6 & they have soooo helped my shins! You may want to tell her to pick up this certain book:hippie: :rolleyes1 . Really. Let us know what the diagnosis is! 16 on Sat??? UGH!

So today I ran 5 & my Garmin said it was in just under 45 mins.:yay: . But b4 I got too excited, I also remember that it told me I ran 27.2 miles @ MCM:rotfl: :confused3 . I was trying to do "speed" work & if those times are legit, that's fast for this waddler. The plan is to take tomorrow off, run Thurs, then Sat:confused: & perhaps Sun.

Take care all!

Hello former MCMers/now PhillyM thread posters! :)

A beautiful, sunny 58 degree afternoon in southern Maine. I did my Bingham tempo workout; total of 5 miles with two 10 minute tempos squeezed in. Of course, the guidelines for the tempo portion stress you should have the ability to talk in short, chopped sentences; I, however could only muster gurgling noises and the occasional two word sentence construction ("Me Pain").

Training seems to be going fairly well for all. I have to admit that in the back of my mind I've been referring to your group as the "Cobras": for City Of Brotherly Love Marathoners.

Happy training.

Hey Steve!

Cobra's huh? I Like that!:thumbsup2 . I use Bingham's training plan as well, although I'm modifying it a bit for this silly notion-of-a-thing called the GOOFY!:upsidedow . It was 60 here, too. Nice for a run. What is it that we never feel like we're pushing hard enough unless we're unable to articulate a sentence?:lmao: Oh well. Say, what are your time goals for the 1/2 & full?? Do you plan on lining it up w/ us MCMPhillys @ the starting corrals? Shoot, it's not long now!:thumbsup2

Cobras, McPhillies? A team name? We better watch out or we'll be accused of trying to start a WISH team splinter group.

Cindy - The new running store is in Gainesville, appropriately called "The Running Store". Our trip was a bust. We got there and the flyer on the door announcing the grand opening of Nov 12th had the 12 scratched out with a 16 penciled in:confused3 . I guess we'll try again in a few days.

Great job on the speed work!

Jodi - Ditto on the fast run :yay: . BTW, I think we all measured quite a bit of extra mileage for MCM. I got something like 26.7 and I remember the other guys saying they must have weaved a lot too.

SilverSteve - I guess everyone was fast today! Tempo run for me means that I can just barely breathe. Forget talking. Good job, again.

Link - I didn't know you had some prior knee history. Take it easy! The Muddy Buddy sounds fun and I'd like to do it sometime. Probably not this go round though.

Colleen and Sara - Are you home yet?

I got my 8 miles in this evening. Dropped DD off at dance and ran from there. The first mile and half is all downhill. I popped off a 7:18 mpm mile even trying to take it a little easy. I paid for it later, but it's fun to do one of those every once in a while.

Say, what are your time goals for the 1/2 & full?? Do you plan on lining it up w/ us MCMPhillys @ the starting corrals? Shoot, it's not long now!:thumbsup2

First of all, after reading selected previous posts, I'm only lining up with MCMPhillys carrying "adult beverages" in their gel holders. :thumbsup2

Ohhh Jodi. The runner in me wants to say: "I'll take it easy in the half and come in at 2:15; then I know I'll be able to to complete a 4:30 for the full." AHHH! :rotfl2: Maybe 15 years ago!

No, survival shall be my goal. I'm coming off my second knee surgery (one on both knees) in 3 years; my distance running days are numbered, so says my surgeon and the little voice in my head. So for my swan song, (which happened to coincide with my 40th birthday---Goofy Challenge!)

Even after surgery, when I ran longer than 9 miles it felt as if someone ran up and stuck a salad fork into my left knee. I thought all was lost until I gave the Galloway run/walk a try. Set out at a 5 min run/1 min walk and went 11 miles with no pain! So... I did a half this fall with the 5/1 ratio and finished in 2:12:00.

I really don't have any time goals in mind; I'm bringing a camera and taking a zillion pictures; and I'm really going to take it easy. But, I don't know...2:30-2:45 half? 4:50-5:25 full (with photos and malt/hops?) ;) I honestly and truly have no idea.

Sorry for the long-winded response. Happy training to you and all the "Cobras". (Darn-it, if my knees hold up in January I'm going to be Cobra too!)

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I got in 5 miles after work in 44:07 min for an 8:42 mpm pace. I felt really good the whole run. It was great.

Good Morning McPhillies!!

Back from Baltimore and kicked out a few miles this morning. Not many so I will be back at it this evening:thumbsup2 . No training to speak of in Baltimore:rolleyes1 so it felt real good this morning.

Steve - Happy upcoming 40th and congrats for taking on the Goofy challenge as your possible swan song:cheer2: . I hope your knee does hold up and you become a part of team COBRA:grouphug: .

Mike - Not 5 a.m. meetings but I have to be all professional looking for these and that takes some time:rotfl: Sweet pace on the 8 miler:woohoo:

Dave - You were quite speedy on the 5 miles this morning as well:banana:. Glad it felt great to boot!

Chester - No Muddy Buddy for me but it sounds like a blast:cool1: Glad you're going to take it easy with the knee for a bit.

Cindy - :cheer2: A little running nirvana for you:cheer2:. Great pace and glad it felt real good as well. Sometimes it is best to leave all of the gear behind and just let your body be your guide with respect to pace.

Jodi - Do you have a training program set in stone for Goofy yetpopcorn:: ? What's on tap for your LR this weekend?

Colleen - Are you back yet? Check in please just so we know you made it home safely:hug: .

I think I have 8 miles at MP for this weekend. I am going to try to stick with the training program from here on out as long as the leg cooperates. Anyone ever have issues with piriformis syndrome? I'll take any advice since I've struggled with it for years and have never quite been able to kick it. I will admit that the Chi Running (Thanks Jodi:love: ) does help with keeping my hips as loose as possible.

Happy training to all this week - 52+ weeks and counting

Good Morning McPhillies!

OK, time for this old bag to go to the torture rack...aka accupuncturist/physical therapist. My lower back is complaining a bit too much when I move to quickly a certain way & that is never a good sign:sad2: . I need to get on that core ball more, obviously. Not sure how I'm going to find the time or the $ to get to him this week...but I DO want to be able to get out of bed in the am, so...

Sara - Glad you're back from Baltimore...hope the trip wasn't too demanding;) , . I mean trying to sneak in runs b4 meetings & all. Still no idea about Goofy training, but 8 sounds good this weekend:woohoo: .

Colleen - You back, too?

Link - I wish I could do the Muddy Buddy; Bruce & I have talked about it a few times, but the logistics of getting a bike down there & all is just too silly:eek: .

Lou - When do you actually leave for Philly?

Steve - Pick up the book "ChiRunning" by Danny Dreyer (shut up, Mike), you'll be runnin' marathons for years to come!

Dave - Why you little speed demon, you! WTG! Have you contacted Chesterlink about assuming Tracy's 1/2 marathon bib yet?:rolleyes1 . Do I need to make a phone call to your wife?:rotfl: :lmao:

Cindy - Did i already ask how far you're running this weekend? See, already I can't keep up with my peeps:sad2: .

Mike - Hmmmm, hadn't thought about shaking up the suds too much, good point. I've got it!!! What about margaritas in the glue dispensers??? They're supposed to be shaken anyway, so....

Did I miss anyone???

I'm back!

Got back last night, did 2 loads of laundry, fed the kids, kids in baths, backpacks ready, hot bath for me, ready for bed at about 11:30 and then my smoke detector begins to chirp every minute or so...changed the battery, thank goodness I had one. Back to bed, still chirping. Found second new battery, still chirping! Now it is midnight, decided to just sleep with DD because it is the master bedroom smoke detector chirping. Still can't sleep, got up about 1 a.m. to read the manual, (remember DH is still at Coronado Springs for his conference). Suggests I use a blow dryer to remove any dust, got my step ladder from garage, blow it out, replace battery, still not luck.:confused3 Tried to "reset" the smoke detector by pressing on the test button, no luck.:confused3

It is still chirping this morning, do I need to replace the whole unit?

Will write more later when I am more coherent.

Colleen - No, you need to rip it out of the ceiling!!:headache:

I know, my head really hurts.

I really don't want to drive to Home Depot, get three new units, replace them, etc. if it is something really simple, but I just can't think of what to do. Disers over on the community board are telling me to replace the units. Ooooh, my head.:headache:

I'd be taking the batteries out of those bad boys, and have DH pick up some new smoke detectors on his way home from WDW.

On a different note, did you book that bounceback villa? I'm very curious.

Ran 4 miles last night at progressive splits (65% to 70% to 75%MP to 80%1/2MP) finished with a 10:06 pace. No knee problems, so tonight wil be 8 miles at 70%.

Be good all.

Dave, they still chirp when I take the batteries out, are they suppose to quit?:confused3

As for the villa, you know it was a tough call. There were dates in January-early March, April and then mid August-end of September. I did book a phantom reservation for the first week in April over at Old Key West. I will never pay rack rate for a room at Disney, so I always like having a discounted reservation in my pocket in case someone says "Let's go to Disney!" More than likely I will cancel this one because DS wants to go for Star Wars Weekend in June, which will be our last trip using our AP's. We bought AP's this year and only this year.
