Cindy - Yes, please, tell me how far to run Sat.!:rotfl: . So you registered for RockNRoll, huh? Man...I wanna go to that thing...anyone know how I can earn some xtra$?? CAREFUL, MIKE:lmao: . You too, Chester! I know Dave is too much of a gentleman..:rotfl2:

Guess I'm not much of a lady based on the proposed responses I was thinking of . . .:lmao: I agree with Mike - 37 miles sounds about right.

. . .Cindy With 3 kids I have to get up early to get all I have to do in. I won't sacrifice my run time so it is less painful than having to hear them complain if I have to hit the treadmill in the evening. I hope you're able to squeeze in a run today . . .

Dave - Did I miss something on the Minnie gig not working out for some reason:confused: .. . .

I'm amazed at how all of you with kids manage to fit everything in your days. Some days I feel like I can barely manage now. I can't imagine what it's going to be like when I have kids . . .

Sorry if I confused anyone with my comment to Dave. I guess I must have been referring to his post in the other thread (the Minnie one that he started)

Mike and Colleen - I am running the original Rock 'N' Roll Marathon in San Diego. Its a full and the only full R 'n' R that doesn't have a half run at the same time, which I kind of like. Not sure how I feel about having an "exit strategy" 13 miles into the race, might be too tempting . . .

Steve - fellow Pats fan here. I've actually never been to a game, but also grew up in New England and rooted for them when they were terrible.

Today is a "scheduled" rest day for me (I don't actually have a schedule).

I did manage to squeeze a short 3.5 mile run in yesterday afternoon. I wanted to run longer, but didn't want to be away from the office for too long and it was getting really cold and was crazy windy, so I'm just happy that I got any run in. It was kind of nice running on the Mall. I hardly ever run in DC, unless its for a race, because I usually run from home in the morning and running from home into DC = hills, but if I run further out into VA, it's mostly flat.
Not sure how many miles I will run tomorrow, maybe 10?

. . .

Hey so I found another marathon option for 2008. Elite racing just announced another Rock and Roll Marathon, and it will be in San Antonio. The inaugural event will be 11/16/2008. I've always wanted to go to San Antonio, and it might be a little warmer than Philly. Just a thought to see if anyone's interested.

Here's the link:
http://www.rnrsa.com/home.html

I actually got an email from Elite about that a few weeks ago and at one point I told DH that that was absolutely the fall marathon that we were going to do (Then I think I told him that we were going to try to get into NY, then I told him that we should just do Philly or Richmond so that we could make it a shorter trip, and then I told him we were doing Philly so that I could run with the WISH team - at this point he just agrees with whatever I tell him. :rotfl: So, anyway, I would 100% be willing to do that one with you all. (plus since I'm already running R 'n' R San Diego, I would get an extra "heavy medal")

Hey McPhillyvegetarians!

OK, went & got tortured by accupuncture/pt guys & feel much better. And get this, he said that everything felt great & I didn't need any needles today:banana: . A small victory for me. See, I told you that Chi crap works:hippie: .

Dave - I'm open to whatever the rest of the peeps here wanna do. But I like the cold!! TX may be too hot for this penguin. The only other thing that appeals to me about Philly is that it's closer (meaning less$$). But, if you guys drag me down there, what can I do?:rotfl: . Bruce'll just have to sit this one out!:lmao: . Glad works busy, right?? Kudos on the running for no reason!!:goodvibes

Mike - OK, I don't know where you grew up, dude, but I've never, ever heard of Ultraman - and you're talking to a serious couch potato!! Leave it to you to come up with some bizarre cartoon that was only on one channel in the midwest:confused:

Sara - Did you get to sleep last night? 8 miles tomorrow, is that it? I've got 37 on tap:confused3

Colleen - Have you broken the funk yet? I finally went to the gym this am & did 40 mins. on the elliptical thing. I broke a sweat, so that's exercise, right?:rolleyes1 . UGH. Big run, tomorrow, I'm doing an ultra, have you heard?

Cindy - I wanna go to San Diego:sad1: . 10 miles tomorrow, eh? Let us know how you make out!

Lou - :yay: :woohoo: :cheer2: Go Lou, Go Lou, Go Lou!! Can't wait for a report. I'd say good luck, but remember, lucks got nothin' to do with it:rotfl: ! You go, boyeeee!

Linkster - Still awaiting stack o' singles:woohoo: . We may be going to TX next year!

Can i get Little Rascals DVDs anywhere? Didn't Bill Cosby buy all the rights & destroy them or something b/c he found them offensive? What a tool. Anyhow, I was telling my son this am about the episode where they're all camping (or ran away) & they're making jelly sandwiches w/ these huge wedges of bread, spilling it all over. Then Porky takes a bite & says "this is the best jelly I ever eated". The other one is when the donkey's in the house & Stimey's trying to get it outside & he's saying over & over "C'mon Algebra, this is no place for YOU!" I blurt this out every so often when DS & I are walking the dog & he looks at me like I'm nuts. I do this all the time to him, just yell out lines from old tv shows & movies:sad2: . No wonder why he's so weird:confused: .:thumbsup2

:moped: I've gotta drive-by here but it seems Southwest flies ALB to San Antonio so I would be up for the inaugural R&R Marathon on 11/18 if you guys wanna do that one also. Either one is good for me:thumbsup2

Let's do both. I need to pick up races in other states if I ever expect to do at least one in each.

:rotfl: I don't care either, as long as I am with the McPhillieburgers!

I have an announcement to make, I walked today, a total of 4 miles!:yay:

I am trying to decide whether I should walk three LW's of

16
8
18
8
20

or just do two more longish walks.

8
17
8
10
20

DH tells me I really don't need to do three, because I really won't get into glycogen depletion while walking that I will just be burning fat, :confused3 which by the way, I am nicely packing on now that I am not running! So I am pretty much good to go!

Philadelphia? San Antonio?

You guys sound like that current ad campaign for a cell phone company:

"I previously completed the Marine Corps Marathon and I am thinking of entering races in either Philadelphia or San Antonio. I need a finisher's medal from a race in Washadelphatonio."

Happy training.

P.S. At the risk of DW kicking me out; I'd consider either location for 2008.

Gee, you are a fickle bunch. You'll jump at any Tom, Dick, or Harry waving a medal in front of you! I'm not sure the McAlamos has quite the same ring to it.

Lou - Good Luck!!! Have a great time.

Steve - Welcome aboard. Another great Rascals quote as Stimey rides in a runaway car, "Don't know where we're goin', but we're on our way!"

I'm amazed at how all of you with kids manage to fit everything in your days. Some days I feel like I can barely manage now. I can't imagine what it's going to be like when I have kids . . .
Cindy - no need to imagine. Just follow my day (luckily, not working today).
Tuck DD4 back into bed twice between 4-6Am.
Get up at 6:30, make sure DD11 is getting ready for school.
Come up from taking shower to find that DD7 accidently overflowed toilet and water of undetermined quality is everywhere:eek: .
DW has to take my place taking DD11 to catch the shuttle bus to school while I clean up the floor.
7:45-9:00 Take DD7 to school and volunteer for chess club while DW takes DD4 to preschool.
Come home and change - Walk 6 miles with DW.
Shower, change, pick up DD from preschool.
Come home to get DW to go to The Running Store (Yes, finally opened:banana: ).
Grab a wonderful burrito at California Tortilla.
Drop DW and DD4 off at home.
Pick up DD11 from school.
Fight with DD11 about cleaning basement.
Get DD8 from bus stop.
Fight with all 3 DD's about cleaning basement while I attempt to move furniture (cleaned carpets this week).
AHHH! Actually get to sit down for a few minutes and relive my day for you.

Pretty normal stuff, overall.

Colleen - I'd probably go with the 2 LR plan if I were you. No Ultraman, huh? Maybe you had Eskimoman, or Mountieman, or Canuckman?

Dave - Great job getting your research included. Does that give you any extra cache on campus?

Sara - Your kids complain while you are on the TM? I've seen 2 of your kids and it's hard for me to imagine them complaining.

Chester - 50 in 50? How close are you? One a week may be the ticket!

Jodi - Albegra!!! :rotfl: I forgot that one. Classic!! Oh, and congrats on getting out of the pin cushioning.

Kathy and I were talking today while we were walking. Is the Chi mumbo jumbo pronounced "Chee", or CH and rhyme with Bye, or Greek letter K rhyme with Bye?

The Running Store finally opened. They videotaped us running on the TM and replayed it in super-slow mo. The guy said my shoe was just great for my "neutral as can be" stride. He suggested Kathy switch to a slightly less supportive Brooks Axiom in the hopes of addressing her shin splints. Not that she's vain, but I think she was slightly disappointed to see him grab the funkiest color combo shoes off the wall. WISH green and teal:scared1: . Quite a site.

O.K. 16 on tap for tomorrow AM. It will be great to be done and know that Jodi still has 21 more to go!

Mike - Tell Kathy good luck w/ the shoe! Sounds like you had quite the day with your brood! I hate it when the toilet overflows & the contents are questionable:rotfl2: Have fun with your measly 16 tomorrow. BTW, it's pronounced CHEE.:yay:

Steve - Shhhhhh. Don't tell DW:goodvibes ...yet.

Colleen - Definitely go w/ the 2 LRs...Did you really have to ask?:rotfl:

Cheslink - When do you plan on doing AK? I'd be interested in tagging along...I wanna do NYC next year, too. If I get in this year, I'll be doing that in the beginning of Nov. then PhilTex @ the end of Nov.:cheer2: .

Sara - Do you know of any good hotels in San Antonio:confused3 :rolleyes1 .

What? I have to enter the NYC lottery too? When am I going to have time to get back in the workforce?

Maybe Katie Holmes can help me out getting a "F" number bib for NYC marathon!

Thanks for the advice on the 2 LW's. I know I could walk the marathon tomorrow, if needed, and I am not out to shatter any land speed records. So only 8 miles for me tomorrow and 17 next weekend should do for this month.:thumbsup2

I have never seen the Rascals either!:rolleyes1

Holy Moley! I just played around with all sorts of flights next year to San Antonio. Not an easy (read: "inexpensive") jaunt from the Portland, ME/Boston area.

Ummmm :scratchin , how 'bout that cool weather in Philly for next Fall!? :)

OK; the siggie is here if you want it; feel free. (Not that I'm trying to make up your mind. ;) )

Hey Everyone:

OK, ok, I haven't run today... maybe I will, maybe I won't. I really felt like sleeping in, and it felt good. Maybe I'll run later today, or maybe I'll push it back to tomorrow. There's an important football game on today for our family - Mich/OSU. Go BLUE!!!

As far as November marathons go - I can go either way, and would definitely be swayed if Philly was cheaper. I'm sure Philly would be a lot cheaper and more convenient. So I'm down with that... I can take my family to San Antonio sometime.

Mike and Jodi- Yes, being included on this new grant proposal is good for my job. It will be even better if the grant is funded because then it will pay part of my salary. I've learned that's what the medical school really cares about. How much of my salary is paid by external sources instead of them paying my salary.

Jodi- I'll throw my name in the NYC Marathon lottery, but I don't think I could do NYC and Philly if I were to be selected.

Colleen- I can't seem to wrap my head around how many LRs you should do. :confused3 I think not doing the marathon in January is preventing me from even thinking about it.

Hi Sara, Chester, Cindy, and SilverSteve :wave2: Have great LRs everyone!

The weather forecast for the Philly marathon tomorrow is RAIN and 40 degrees. Could it get any worse?

I ran in the rain a few times...in the summer...but never in these cold conditions. For you veteran racers... what would you wear to run a marathon in constant rain and 40 degree temps???

Other than that I am psyched. My knee, legs, and feet feel great. I really did not do much running the past 5 days because I wanted to get to the race healthy. I have a little bit of a chest cold but I have been drinking a lot of water which has helped. I should be as healthy as I can be for the race.

The weather forecast for the Philly marathon tomorrow is RAIN and 40 degrees. Could it get any worse?

Wow, that really sucks! There could be a driving wind too, then it would be worse.

Hope it is not like that next year, oh wait, are we are now running San Antonio, or NYC, or ...:confused3

I would definitely tie plastic bags around my shoes before the start. Garbage bags and a hat are a must too!

Do you someone that could meet you at mile 18 with a new pair of shoes and socks?

Lou - WISHing you a good race tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will cooperate a little:wizard: . I've only run shorter races in the cold rain, so I don't have any experience with being wet for that long, but would agree with everything Colleen said. Make sure the clothes that you will be running in stay as dry as possible until you start to run (garbage bags) and a hat with a visor to keep the rain off of your face will help. Throw away clothes to keep you warm before the start will also help. Before MCM Target had hanes sweats on sale for $4.66 so I got some of those, but a trip to Goodwill is another idea.

I got in a 10 mile run. Nothing spectacular. I didn't feel good or bad but am happy its over.

The weather forecast for the Philly marathon tomorrow is RAIN and 40 degrees. Could it get any worse?
Yep. How about 85 degrees and humid. Much worse, IMHO.

Lou - Do you have a light water proof (or water resistant) windbreaker? I have a light pullover shell that I wear over a long sleeve tech shirt when it's raining. You can always take it off and tie it around your waste or ditch it altogether if needed. Don't let the weather psyche you out. It will be fine as long as you enjoy yourself.

Cindy - Good job. A done 10 is a done 10.

Chester - How's the knee?

Dave - The OSU/Evil Incarnate game lost some of it's luster after last week's loss. I guess with the BCS, you never know.

Colleen - Sorry about my Inuit ignorance. I hope I didn't offend any of our natives of the far north.

Steve - You better just post a siggy for any race to be held next November. These flip-floppers could decide just about anything:laughing: .

Jodi - Almost done with your run yet?

Sara - What's up with you today?

I slept in late (Ahh!!) then hit the pavement for a lovely 16 miler today. Well, the first 10 miles were fine but I really had to fight for the last 6. I ended up with 41+ miles this week. Yikes!

Hey guys! JUST got done with my run..phew:rotfl2: As if! Seems like everyone slept in today, eh? Guilty as charged, but I guess that's ok b/c it's really cold in the am now, so gettting out later's ok.

Lou - Ditto advice w/ what everyone says...keep everything as dry as possible until you start to run. Just remember this year's Boston, it was like a monsoon & those people made it through. Get WARM as soon as you're done. Definitely try & change socks somewhere if necessary, maybe even 2x. Careful w/ changing shoes cause of the chip. Garbage bags! Good luck & enjoy yourself. Nothing gets you through a really bad time like knowing there are thousands of other people with you battling the same thing:woohoo: . Strength in #s, my friend!

Dave - So did you run? And if so...why?:rotfl: . As you know, I need someone to tell me to run!

Cindy - :thumbsup2 job on the 10! I know what you mean about the not good not bad, thing.

Mike - 16 miles, wow, that's great! Sorry the last 6 were less than awesome! I seem to be having the same trouble with the longer runs; once I get past 8 miles my mind starts to get pissed & my body goes along with the notion:confused3 .

Colleen - Did you get a walk in?

Sara - Everything ok?

Steve - Got an NYC logo tucked away anywhere?

My 37 today turned in to 13, sorry to disappoint:lmao: . It felt ok 'til around 8 or 9, & when I say ok, i mean JUST ok. Then it got annoying & the thought in my head (much like the last 10 of MCM) was walk, just walk, just take a break & walk. My legs & my brain just arent' into running right now, can't seem to get over it. I suppose I better have a change in attitude b4 the 12&13th:rotfl:

As far as fall marathons go, Philly is definitely my first choice. I'm putting in for NYC cause I have for the last 2 years, this'll be the 3rd & if I don't get in I'm guaranteed a spot in '09. However, if I do get in to NYC I will still be @ Philly, trudging across the line somehow?? Hey, I met a guy @ MCM in the hotel lobby that was running MCM that day & NYC the following weekend, so...AND he was about 55:scared1: . Not that that matters, but ya'll know how I feel about old bags passin' me out regularly out there on the course:laughing: . NO, i don't think 55 is old, i better not, I'm not too far from that!

Happy rest day tomorrow. I think I'll run 4 or 5 to punish myself for my piss-poor attitude today:sad2: .
