I was wishing I could drink an Optimator after the full in Jan., but I've got a plane to catch :car: - it better not take me 7 hours to finish:scared1:
Jodi - After then full? No ma'am, I'm talking DURING the full.

SilverSteve - How's your Goofy training going. Is the knee holding up o.k.? 7 hours to is drivable. I'm not sure 7 hours immediately after would be so much fun!

Chester - Maybe we should start calling you Link (as in missing, based on the picture :lmao: ).
I ran MCM at 1/2M rate and the first half was easy. The third quarter of MCM was rough, but I finally settled in for the final quarter and finished without too much pain or exertion.
Is it safe for me to assume you're not trying to PR at Disney? What do you think your HR approach will be for the next race that you do try to PR? It would seem to me that your 1/2M rate to start served you well at MCM, even with the rough 3rd quarter. I do know that you were flying up the hill to finish!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

OK, I'm trying to wake up to get out the door for a run this morning. I didn't make it last weekend. So I'm going to try to get some steps outside this weekend. It's tough though without the imminent race to train for - especially when it's cold out there...

I did get 4 runs in this week so far. All 4 were 3 milers on the treadmill. I'm going to try to see if I can build myself up to running 5 days a week. For my first marathon (Disney) I was running 3 days/week - otherwise I would get severe shin splints. For Marine Corps I did OK with 4 days a week. Now I'm going to see if I can handle 5 days/week

Speaking of shin spints, how's Kathy doing Mike? Are her shins feeling better after walking around DC?

Have fun training out there everyone. BTW Rocky II was on last night, and I got a little of Rocky running through Philadelphia. WTH though - there was not one thread of tech fabric on him, and he was running in Converse Chuck Taylor canvas high tops. That's gotta hurt.

Dave!! - Good luck on the run this morning. Getting a long run in this weekend is going to be tough for me due to sleep/activities/work (Yes, Jodi I am STILL working!). Mine may have to be on Monday or Tuesday.

Kathy's shins are feeling better. We have a designated bag of frozen green beans in the freezer that she uses to ice them down. She's fine as long as she sticks to walking. As soon as she runs even a little bit, they're shot. It's very frustrating for her.

Rocky's old school! I seem to remember him doing weight training with big logs in one of the movies. I guess if your hefting around tree stumps and punching sides of beef, moisture wicking and overpronating don't really matter:rotfl: .

Hello TEAM:

OK, I got 8 miles in today in 1:17/~9:38 mpm. It actually felt pretty tough out there today. Kind of felt like I was slogging through it, and forcing myself to get the miles in. Oh well, I got it done, and got 20 miles in this week. :thumbsup2

Mike- What's your job that you work all these crazy hours. Sorry to hear about Kathy's shins. I know how frustrating that must be. I struggled with shin trouble during all of 2006, and it never seemed to go away until I tapered for the Disney Marathon.

Dave - good job on the 8 miles. What do you mean you don't have a race coming up? What about Philly? Where's your 53 week training plan?:)

I managed to get 10 in today. I will echo Dave's comments about how it felt - I felt terrible. Then again, I sort of expected that - a little too much :drinking1 last night and not enough sleep. But I got it done and am very happy about that.

Silver Steve - This year the Marines had Vaseline on sticks to pass out to runners. That was one of the best moments of the race for me at mile 20/21 when I got some Vaseline to put on my lips - they were so chapped that they felt like they were on fire.

Finishing up my post-run mac and cheese (very healthy) and then I've got to head into the office for the rest of the day.:sad2:

SilverSteve - How's your Goofy training going. Is the knee holding up o.k.?

Hi Mike,

My training is going well so far. My knee has been pain free for any continuous run up to 8-9 miles (about 9:15-9:30 pace). If I'm going more than 9 miles, I switch to a run/walk (5 min/1 min) from the start--and the knee has been great! Did a slow 16 mi. LR yesterday; other than some sore calves, I'm good.

Happy training,

Hi guys,

Just checking in from Disney! Our flight was 2 hours late leaving CLT yesterday, so we didn't get into our hotel until after 7. Kids were pretty tired so we just ate at Cape May Buffet and it was SO good because we so hungry!

We were assigned a great room at BC. I booked a standard room with AP rate and we were upgraded to a waterview, 4th floor, full balcony and very close to the lobby. Thought I had the perfect room until our neighbors came home at 11:00. They were SO loud until about 2 a.m. and then they turned the TV on and we could hear it in our room! I have never been able to hear my neighbors in deluxe hotel before. I will call down to the front desk tonight if this behavior continues, caution...schoolmarm coming out in me!

ADR at Rose and Crown tonight, never been, and then Illuminations. I suspect EPCOT will be crazy because this is the last weekend of the F&W Festival.

Good luck with all the LR's this weekend.

Colleen - Hey Disney Wench:rotfl2: ! Glad you got upgraded, but what's with the neighbors?? I would've snapped! IF this wench doesn't get sleep, EVERYONE knows!! Make a phone call & switch around. Hope you're having fun @ Rose & Crown, I've always loved the fish & chips there! Have Fun:banana:

Dave - We're doing that Twilight Zone thing again! I was watching Rock 2 last night, too! No sparky material for the Rock! WTG:thumbsup2 on that 8 miles. OK, I ran 8 miles today & felt like crap for all but the first 4 miles or so. WOW, that was rough! I came home soaked in a hot bath than curled up on my bed & fell asleep for 2 hours!!:scared1: And I NEVER do stuff like that...the only thing missing was a binky & a blankie:rotfl: . My legs felt so heavy & mentally, I was just DONE! Then my husband pointed out that perhaps the flu shot I had yesterday afternoon had something to do with it? I did feel really achy & tired, but I'm not convinced I can blame the whole thing on the shot. I think I'm just in no way recovered yet.

Steve - HEY! Welcome. Glad your knee's doing well. I'm training for Goofy as well, if you could call running 8 miles today & wanting to cry afterwards, training:lmao: . Oh well, we'll make it, right?...right?

Mike - I used to have serious problems w/ shin splints as well & know how dis-heartening it can be...you just feel like your getting in shape & then that crap kicks in. Tell Kathy the way I resolved it was by doing my Chi:hippie: :rotfl: . Actually, it cleared up way b4 I started that ecclectic running; I got special shoes for overpronators & that really cleared it right up, straightened me right out. What does she run in? OK, Optimators DURING the marathon:confused3 . When & how? I may be game at that point. I mean, hell, what can it hurt. So I hurl:sick: , it's not like I'll be setting any PRs at that marathon:rotfl2: .

Hey Folks!

Colleen - Good luck with the noisy neighbors. We usually take one of those ambient sound machines with us and set it on white noise all night. Amazing how much other stuff that eliminates. I even use one at home when I'm sleeping during the day. I blocks out just about all of the girls' yelling.

How was Rose & Crown? The fish and chips give me a tummy ache but I've had a few other things there that I loved.

Dave - Good job getting your miles in. Sorry it was tough, but it's done! I'm a pharmacist in a hospital and do the night shift. 7 nights on, 7 nights off. Life is good every other week!

Jodi - Sorry you had a rough time out there too. Don't sweat it too much and don't push too hard until you feel like it. We are only 2 weeks out, don't ya know.

Kathy wears a Brooks support shoe. She overpronates a little and her shoes should be right for that. We're planning on going to a running store that videotapes and does all that jazz to see if they fit her with something different.

Here's my in-race suds plan. It probably won't actually be Optimator since I think they only serve that inside the Biergarten, but the little counter service weeny stand does sell some fabulous Beck's dark. A little off course excursion and 7 bucks later, viola! :cloud9: Unfortunately, the real snag in that plan is that World Showcase doesn't open until 11:00AM. As much as I'm planning on making this a nice leisurely stroll, I'm not sure I still want to be strolling through Germany at the 5 hour mark.

No, I haven't put TOO much thought into this :rotfl2: .

Cindy - Great job on 10! See above to Jodi. Remember what you put your body through ONLY 2 WEEKS AGO!

Sara - Did you do your 15K? Still going to Baltimore? Have a good trip.

Steve - I'm training for Goofy as well, if you could call running 8 miles today & wanting to cry afterwards, training.

Umm, :scratchin didn't you just complete a Marathon, and only TWO WEEKS AGO!? Don't sweat it; you've got the miles in the bank. I would definitely blame the flu shot ;).

Happy Sunday PMers!!

How did everyones run go this weekend? We know mine, Cindy's & Dave's were poop? What about the rest of you?popcorn::

I'll anxiously be awaiting a reply:rolleyes1 .

Jodi
Had a great 5 mile run Friday evening.
Saturday morning was a different story. I set out for 5.5 miles. During the first 2 miles, I had some times that it felt like my right knee was hyperextending. Ther was a sharp pain whenever this happened. I t was intermittent and would happen about once every 4-5 minutes. Eventually, it seemed to stop and I continued the run.

When I got home and went up the porch steps to the house, the sharp pains hit every time I stepped up with my right foot. It was ok standing or walking, but whenever I used the toe/ball of my right foot to bear weight, the pain hit. Therefore, the 11 miles scheduled for today is officially cancelled.

The pain is not too bad today and I am taking it easy as to how I bear weight on that leg. Planning on returning to schedule with Tuesdays run.

This week:
Tuesday 4 miles
Wednesdy 8 miles
Thursday 4 miles
Saturday 8.5 miles
Sunday 17 miles

I may be making an adjustment to the weekend lr's so that they build up to just 1 20 miler instead of 2 before WDW.

Mike
I plan on using my HR zones for the Goofy. The only difference will be is that I intend to stay on rate for the entire race, instead of 3/4 and then going max for the final 1/4.

HR training is kind of like a fuel economy gauge - too much fuel consumed too early and you might not make it to the finish line. Too little fuel consumed and you will finish, but probably not likely to PR. The plan is to conserve early and manage to finish at maximum rate with 0 reserves.

Safe and happy training to all.

Chester -Good call canceling that LR today:thumbsup2 . Funny about that knee pain. I had the EXACT same thing happend to me a week ago Friday. Every time I stepped a certain way w/ my R leg it felt like it was kicking out in front of me. Like you said, almost as if the knee were hyper-extending. I was a bit nervous, but the next day it was gone:confused3 . Hopefully this is the way it goes for you. Also, given the fact that you just ran a marathon 2 weeks ago, I would definitely limit your training to only 1, 20-mile run. 2 just seems like you're asking for trouble, IMHO.

Link (Chester) - Take it easy with the knee. Mine felt woogy too for the first couple of days but has been fine since. Baby that sucker as long as you need to. 1 x 20 miler should be fine.

I hope you find the exact point that you've got zero left in the tank as you cross the tape. I need a few more races under my belt before I even hope to be able to figure that one out.

Jodi - Notice my complete lack of response to how my runs went this weekend? :rolleyes1 Maybe I'll have something to talk about tomorrow.

TTFN

Jodi
My knee is better today, but I can still feel a small stab of pain when climbing stairs. One more day and I think I'll be able to do the midweek runs.

Mike
I don't think that crossing the finish with zero left is and exact science - afterall, you're trying to manage energy consumption and physical condition for 26.2+ miles. It's a hard thing to determine. I just like that I can use HR training to figure out what an "easy" run should be and what a run at "pace" should be. Plus, it gives me some more numbers to over analyze when I download my data to the computer.

My Sunday long runs will be adjusted to look like this:
11/18 11 miles
11/25 16 miles
12/2 18 miles
12/9 13.1 race
12/16 18 miles
12/23 20 miles
12/30 12 miles
1/6 8 miles

Happy and healthy training to all,

Chester

Happy Monday all.

No runs yesterday or today for me. I've never run more than 4 day/week, but like Dave am going to try to get it up 5. I'm not worried about my shins but my knees. I've had constant knee pain for years. I used to dance when I was younger and played tennis and field hockey and actually fenced in high school. My knees have taken a beating. I've torn ligaments and been on crutches several times. Also, after an MRI several years, I was told that my left knee cap doesn't track properly. :confused3 So, of course it made sense that I would take up running.:rotfl:

In all seriousness, I actually haven't had any serious knee injuries in years and I don't think running has made them any worse - the pain hasn't really gotten any worse. Sure, they take a pounding, but I think it is better than what happens to them when I play tennis (with all the side to side motion, etc.). I guess only time will tell . . .

Colleen - I hope you liked Rose and Crown. I remember my first time eating there many years ago. It was the first place I ever had Shepards Pie and I remember really liking it.

Chester - I hope the knee is feeling better. Knee issues scare me - see above.

Last full day here at Disney, wow, the weekend flew by!

Cindy, Rose and Crown was great! We had the best seat in the house, right down along the water edge. It was so quiet and beautiful, the kids really enjoyed it and DH and I felt like we had a little romantic dinner down there too. The fish was great!

Last night we ate at the Biegarten and I enjoyed my first Optimator!:drinking1 My husband almost fell over when I ordered a whole liter. I have to admit, I had to ask for a to-go cup though. I did finish it as DS10 was searching for the perfect Pokeman plush in Japan.;)

I haven't done any official training this weekend as I am sure I am getting a lot of walking in.

I'll write more Wednesday as tomorrow is a travel day.

Sincerely,

Your friendly neighborhood Disney Wench!

P.S. They are offering a bounceback program here, 40% off villas. Tempting...

Cindy - Hey, I live in CT, where did you used to live? And why would you ever want to leave this exciting state?:rotfl: BTW, fencing is completely legal here. How do you think I can afford to go to all these marathons? Be careful w/ upping those running days; I'm going to try & do the same:laughing: , but not sure my body will appreciate the extra wear & tear. Guess we'll play it by ear.

Colleen - Glad you enjoyed yourself @ Disney! I love the fish & chips @ Rose & Crown, and the beer's not too bad, either! So basically you drank all weekend & didn't get any training in...:thumbsup2 That's what I'm talkin' about!

Linkster - Wow! That's a lot of long runs you've got on tap:scared1: . I don't think I'll be able to muster that b4 Jan., oh well. I'm sure that knee will be back to normal in another day or 2.

Mike - Given up on that running thing, huh?:rotfl2: . Actually, you should have plenty of time coming up soon, right? Don't you have like 9 days off in a row on tap?:woohoo: I was thinking; can't I put Guiness, or the like, in those little glue dispensers I carry around with me in the marathon? I mean, who needs water or Powerade? I can get that on the course:yay: .

Sara/Dave - Are you guys still out there?

Ok, ran a good 6 today; felt pretty good as it was nice & cold out. I suppose I'll run again tomorrow sometime or Weds. Looking for advice as to what mileage I should shoot for for this Sat.'s LR.? After the 8 this past Sat., everything sounds too long!:confused3
