Jodi - I'm alright. Just a really, really bad week. Too much fun in Chicago and then some majorly bad work issues. I guess I am both mentally and physically drained. I just need to honor my need for rest. MCM will be my 3rd marathon this year and I am running WDW in January. I am just questioning my being overly ambitious right now. I am sure it's nothing a few good nights of sleep and eating well won't cure. You'll see me there in 45 days my friend:hug: . If you want any iPod tune suggestions, there is a WISH thread for marathon music. If I told you my playlist you might get the wrong impression of me:rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao: .

Sara
Enjoy the Daughtry show tonight.
Good luck on the 20 Saturday.
Have fun at WDW next weekend.

Colleen
Saturday = 8
Sunday = 13

Last night I had my "fastest" easy run (easy = less than 145 bpm hr) - 5 miles @ 10:29 average with 141 bpm average heart rate. Tuesday's "cruise" run was 5 miles @ 9:55 with 154 bpm (marathon pace for me is 152 bpm). I'm really looking forward to 10/28.

Train safe ya'll,

Chester
W.I.S.H. Half-Fast Marathon Team

Sara -Phew, glad to know you'll be there. Hope work's ok, sleep deprivation is never a good thing, go take a nap. 45 DAYS:scared1: Don't say it like that.

OK, now you HAVE to let me know what's on your ipod, I'll be waiting....

Sara -Phew, glad to know you'll be there.
Yes, Jodi, don't worry, Sara will be there! I have confidence that a nice, relaxing, free-dining jaunt down to Disney will revitalize anyone!:)

Chester, so cool about your heart-heart monitoring. After my tempo run this morning, DH was trying to convince me to wear his heart rate monitor so I will know what my optimal pace should be. I have tried it before but it chafes so badly. I used body glide but it still pains me.

Sara, be careful this weekend. I have told myself that it is OK to walk periodically during my 18, I just want to get the steps in.

Jodi, yes I will be getting a 20 miler in. Who knows when?:confused3

Mike, you are thinking about running with us. That would be great. You can run ahead to the water stops and have oranges, bananas, and gels waiting for us when we get there!;) You are welcome to join our merry band, but I am sure you will be get antsy and want to take off, you are so speedy.
Colleen - Oranges, bananas and gels? Heck, I was going to try for some stir fry, pizza, maybe a frozen beverage or two!

As for getting antsy... Not so much worried about that but I will admit that I'm concerned about a couple of things. First off, I always run by myself. I'm not sure I'd be able to hold up my end of the conversation (and DW will confirm the fact that I'm not exactly a chatterbox). Second, it's usually tough for me to run a pace other than the one my legs decide to run. I've tried to slow it down for a more comfortable LR in the past and my knees hurt and quads ached and had all sorts of discomfort. That's why most of my runs are pretty much at race pace.

Your training plan looks like a pretty prudent choice from here on out.

Jodi - I kind of flip-flop back and forth about the MP3 player. I've used it in the past for LR's but not at all for a while. Maybe I'll have to try mine again and see if I can drown out the voice in my head telling me how tired I am. I do like one on the treadmill (and mowing the yard).

I definitely will not bring one to the race.

P.S. Just a word of caution. Be careful if you load any Led Zepellin. I almost took a header off a treadmill one time when they started doing that left speaker-right speaker-left-right business in Ramble On.

Sara - Sleep and eat well. We need you!

Chester - Great job on the runs! That's a great pace for the "cruise" at marathon HR.

On the training front: I got in a decent 8 on Wed and 5 on Thurs.

DD7 rode her bike along with me for the first 3 on Thursday. We finished at a 9:15 pace which wasn't too bad for 2 crashes, half a dozen near misses, crooked handlebars and a brake repair. Tough finding the good running groove with all that action but she had fun.

Rest day today and I'm slated for 13 this weekend. DD11 is in a parade on Sat AM so scheduling may get kind of tricky.

Talk to ya later!

Colleen - Oranges, bananas and gels? Heck, I was going to try for some stir fry, pizza, maybe a frozen beverage or two!

I've tried to slow it down for a more comfortable LR in the past and my knees hurt and quads ached and had all sorts of discomfort. That's why most of my runs are pretty much at race pace.

Mike, frozen beverages, now we are talking!;) By the way, will there be beer at the finish line? MelR and I actually drank the beer offered about mile 22 at Disney last year. :lmao: We had been out there so long at that point and it was approaching 85 degrees, so we just said, what the heck?

Secondly, I think you are my DH's long lost brother.:confused3 He runs about a 3:30 marathon, not really a chatterbox (well, not at all), and has completely given up running with me. He too complains of sore knees and quads after running my 9:30 pace. He says he has to adjust his stride so much that it completely throws him off. I guess I am telling you this, so you do what is best for you during the marathon, OK, I guess I don't need to tell you that, I am sure your legs will let you know what you need.:) You must wait for us at the finish!

Rest day for me today before my big 18 this weekend. Well I guess not really rest, but lots of stretching.

Looking forward to hearing from everyone today.:)

Jodi - Let's just say my iPod playlist tends to make blood go to the parts of the body that are not required for running:rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao: :thumbsup2
Colleen - Rest and stretch today. Good luck on the 18 miles:banana: :woohoo:

Mike - Happy rest day to you!! Have fun on the LR and at the parade.

Chester - Congrats on the awesome pace:cheer2: . Good luck on your b2b LR's this weekend.

I am basking in the Daughtry afterglow today:woohoo: . I was inspired to run even on 5 hours of sleep. However, my knee wasn't so inspired and it is a bit upset with me. I am up in the air as to which day or how many miles I am going out for this weekend. I will get something in for sure:cool1: .

Happy training to all:banana: !!

Sara - Oh my:upsidedow :rolleyes1 , sounds like your ipod list may be a little, uh, distracting? I can't wait to see you when that marine places a medal around your neckpopcorn:: (that's if I can keep up). Glad you had fun @ Daughtry last night...don't run too much this weekend.

Colleen - WOW, good luck tomorrow w/ that 18:thumbsup2 , hope the weather's good. Is everything feeling up to par? I'll be waiting for a report tomorrow.

Mike - I'm like you, I don't talk much & I'm not used to running with anyone. That's ok, I just plan to run in silence...as far as keeping a certain pace, who knows, I think I'm up & down. It should be interesting either way. Good luck w/ the LRs this weekend (no bike crashing:cutie: ).

Chester - That HR stuff is cool, glad it gets you to that cool pace:thumbsup2 , let us know how the weekend goes.

Hey, have any of you ever ran the MCM before?? This is my first time, but I'm wondering if I should drag my husband's carcass (sp?) out of bed for the opening ceremony thing, what with him being a former marine & all. I'm thinking he would enjoy it, but he also enjoys his sleep:sad2: . He's so bad w/ directions, he'll probably get lost if he gets up after me & tries to sit out on the course to spot me, oh jeez. I'm wondering if the Silent Drill Team is going to be @ the Dining In thing I got tickets for, that's the only reason why I'm going to this dopey event. I suppose I should make a phone call today & find out, huh?

Jodi - Being an endurance athlete, I like to consider it nothing more than having a great appreciation for the human form;) . I also don't speak when I run and I just get  when it starts to hurt. I have run a 1/2 with DH and not spoken a word the entire time:confused3 . We'll all just run in silence:lmao: . My mind will be other places entirely:rolleyes1 . In Lake Placid last weekend when I was struggling I was thinking about how I am afraid I will be mean to y'all when I get frustrated during MCM. I have never been to MCM. Check out the website first. Logistics will most likely be a nightmare.

:rotfl: Sara - That's soooo funny, I'm afraid my true colors will show & ya'll see the heinous wench that my family knows me for. Seriously, I get so irritable those last few miles, I feel like punching people who are yelling out "just 3 more miles, you can do it". Shut up already, can't you see that I'm on the verge of a nervous breakdown???? Then my cell phone rings & it's my dopey husband, "Hey honey, where are you? How do you feel? Blah blah blah?" ARGHHHHH!!:rotfl: :lmao:

So, you guys sure that you still want to meet up with me? Have you ever seen that cartoon "The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy"?, my son says I'm like Mandy.

We'll all just run in silence:lmao: .

Hey, Dave likes to talk when he runs, so we will be OK. Sara and Jodi, from your descriptions, I am quite looking forward to those last few miles. I don't get mad, I just walk.:upsidedow I have never been one to over-exert myself. popcorn:: If we are anywhere close to finishing under 4:30, you two are going to have to light a fire under my behind to get me out of my comfort zone. (In need of a slashing whip smiley.)

Well, today I tried to make reservations at Bertuccis. Guess what, they are closed too!:sad2:

Not sure what to do from here. Ted's Montana Grill in Crystal City was recommended as a place that could accommodate a larger group of 15 and our 4 kids.

Again, I have never been to one, not sure if that is what we want??

If anyone wants to check around for a different restaurant, please go ahead, I won't be offended, as this will be strike three for me.;)

Long run report.

I downloaded more tunes on my MP3 player so I was excited to get out on the road this morning. It was a beautiful morning, 67 degrees but humid at 90%. I was on the road at 5:20 this morning and finished at 8:31. Wow, that is a long time to be at there and I thought I ran pretty well.:upsidedow

Final stats. 18 miles in 3:11 with the last three miles being the fastest at sub 10 minute miles.

I ate oatmeal and scrambled eggs when I got home. Yum! Also jumped into an ice bath for a while and then watched Mommie Dearest (wow, was that disturbing), but physically, I am feeling pretty good now. I just pop a few Advil. My knee and hipflexor are paining me a bit, but I think I will be able to control them over the weekend.

My training plan is all weird now that I took that week off to rest, so I have three weekends left before taper and not sure how far I should run. I may do something like 15, 10, 20 or 10, 15, 20??:confused3 Any suggestions? I always hoped I could get 2-20's in this training, but it just isn't going to happen.

How is everyone else today?:)

Yeah Colleen:cheer2: :cool1: :woohoo: . WTG on the LR. I am resting today as my knee is still bad. I think it's runners knee since it hurts all of the time. I will go out tomorrow but I can't say for how many miles now. I am watching Hannibal Rising with DH as I type and staying off the legs. My training plan will only get me one 20 miler due to my vacation. I will go as far as my knee will allow tomorrow and then will have to wing it until after I'm back from vacation and decide what to do. 15, 10, 20 looks like a good plan for you:thumbsup2 . As Jodi said, we can all run this thing for sure, we just have to get to the starting line healthy. I am at a loss for the WISH meet. I will try to brainstorm over the weekend for places.

Colleen - Awesome job on the 18 miles:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 , Way to go!! Im so glad that there's not too much residual pain, excellent. And what's up with that kickin' time? Hmm, wondering if I'll be able to keep up with ya'll

Sara - Sorry to hear that the knee still pains. Are you going to go to a massage therapist or an accupuncturist? Knee stuff can be creepy:scared1: , so go REAL EASY tomorrow, fun loops around the house so you can call it quits if you have to.

Perhaps we should just meet @ the expo for dinner & wing it? Then again, with kids in tow, that may not be such a good idea. I'm too computer illiterate to look things up in our general vicinity, but if someone gives me a list of numbers, I'll call!

My 8 miles today was disturbing. Felt really hard, I've no excuses 'cause the weather was beautiful. Oh well, I'll just write this one off. I hope next weekend's 18 miler proves to feel better than my last 2 LRs., I've been getting my hiny whooped.

Ok, it's late & I have to go nite nite!

Stay healthy all!!

Hey Colleen - Great run!! And great job getting out there so early. That's just plain tough for me (of course, I don't get off work until 8AM ever other week anyways).

I think I like the 15, 10, 20 plan as long as you feel up to 15 next week.

Sara - Take it easy on the knee. Don't over do it.

Jodi - 8 miles is 8 miles. Write it down and then forget about it.

Dave - You back yet? I hope all is well with your family, or as well as could be expected. We're thinking of you, bud.

Chester - How'd your run(s) go? No blister problems, I hope.

Alright, here's a question for you. Let's say your running your race, monitoring your heart rate and all of a sudden you're surrounded by a bevy(sp?) of running beauties. How did Sara put it? Admiring the human form? Well, do you have to slow down due to the resulting increase in HR? ;)

No nothing for me on Saturday. No time between work, DD11's parade (she had lots of fun) and a little sleep. I'm off for 13 Sun AM.

Hey ya'll, just wanted to poke my head in and say HI! From what I've been reading, all of your training is rockin'! Got my 20 miles finished last week--not pretty but done none the less--now I'm heading out for 12 and then 8 next week--then race day!

:rotfl: Ah, not going to touch that one.

Hey Stephanie, your 20 last week motivated me to get out there and get my 18 in yesterday. It had been about 3 weeks since I ran a decent length long run and I wanted to make sure I could do it. Not much time left for your marathon. That is so exciting. Any taper anxieties yet?

Jodi, I am not sure of the kickin' time because of my whack-a-mole garmin. Yesterday, get this, I wore my 201 Garmin and then strapped my DH's 305 Garmin onto my fuel belt. Here were the results.

201 - 18 miles in 3:11
305 - 17.5 miles in 3:08

DH, is sure that his Garmin underreads (is that a word) the mileage and I think mine is a little generous. Notice after 3 hours of running I assumed mine was right.

Oh and in reply of keeping up to me, it will not be an issue, remember I am carrying about 50 more pounds than you and Sara. I am a big girl,popcorn:: over 6 feet tall... funny story, DH checked and if I finish with a 4:30 or better I could finish in the top 10 of my Athena division. (according to last years results).:rotfl:

I thought I would copy my post from the weekly thread over here--this is a tragic story--hope by reading it others stay safe!

Hey all. Hope everyone is having a nice Sunday. I'll post about my LR today in a separate post. But I wanted to share this with ya'll.

I just heard from my dad, and a daughter of a professor friend of his (and a past professor of mine) was killed last week while out for an evening jog. She was hit by a car. She was jogging on the side of the street, wearing non-reflective clothing, and using her iPod. She never heard the car coming and crossed the street right into it's path. So tragic! Please ya'll be careful out there! Be aware of what's going on around you--I want to see everyone in Oct/Jan in one piece! I'm an iPod user, but have heeded advice from other WISHers and only use one headphone, so I can hear cars/bikers/etc.
