Jodi - Thank you so very much for making me :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: when I just wanna :sad1: . I will take your advice about the soaking. I did take a hot bath this morning. I actually boiled water on the stove and added it to the tub. My back started aching yesterday and I do think it's my hamstrings. Maybe doing speedwork twice a day for a few days was a bad idea:confused: . I have a SENIOR in HS so you can't talk to me about feeling old. :rotfl2: about your DS wanting you to rub his feet. I agree that you should not set him up with unrealistic expectations!! I will now turn my attention towards obsessively planning for our WDW trip in two weeks. I figure no running and 9 days of free WDW dining should equal about 10 extra lbs or so to cart around at MCM:confused3 . DH is convinced that Disney Dining has my phone number on some sort of caller ID for  people. Definitely bag the 16 miler as a show of solidarity:woohoo: !! I mean, I hope you have lots of fun and tack on an extra mile for me;) .

OK, EVERYONE TAKE A DEEP BREATH! I can't deal with all these injuries, bad runs, starting line doubts!!! There is no way I'm running this thing alone. I'll go out & get hurt tomorrow if I have to.

I'm getting up @ 4 a.m. Sat. to do this stupid 16 miles, if I don't bag it all together. You know, in solidarity w/ my fellow-trainees who may have to take the day off.
Jodi- You made me laugh too :lmao:. Hmmmm, so that's why DW won't rub my feet? I think I may be getting up at 4am on Saturday too to get my 18 miles in before it gets too hot, and so I don't get home too late.

Sara- You're going to WDW next week for free dining!!! Lucky devil... after the cruise, DW is telling me that we should take a year off from vacations in order to save some money. Nooooooooo.... but she always says that after we get back.

Seriously, guys, I'm about to blow a head gasket here:scared1: , wondering who may have to bail out of this MCM thing we've been blah-blahing about for a solid month or so now. See what happens when you open up to people & reach out, they get hurt & disappear from your life (insert violins here) & you're left on the starting line of life (or the MCM) all alone:guilty: . I tell ya...I mean, how is all of this going to effect ME ME ME in the end? Sheesh!

Sara - Free Dining indeed!! At least you have a distraction from all of this madness - the only thing I'm obsessing over is what I should name this huge red thing (adult on-set acne) that's growing just below my hairline on the left side of my head!!

I'll be at the starting line Jodi. I'll definitely be there. I've got my nonrefundable airline ticket, and there's not bailing out now. I'll definitely skip a long run before missing out on making it to the starting line. Hang in there. Sounds like you're starting to get a little stressed out about the marathon. We're all in this together, and we'll pull ourselves through.

Yeh, you're right, Dave - I'm stressin'. Glad you'll be there, too. I've never ran with any WISHERs b4, I can't keep up w/ the other Thread. I did last year, but now there's soooo many people, makes my brain hurt.

Jodi - I have to go to Chicago next Monday & Tuesday for business and I've been worrying WAY too much about my need to have clear skin for my meetings:lmao: . Since I am the chairperson of the group, I figure I don't need a face full of acne making me look any younger than I already do since it tends to take away from my "air of authority":rotfl2: . I am going to MCM no matter what:cheer2: . If I have to take it slow I will be fine with that. I am anticipating a full recovery:cool1: . No WISH'ers are going to bail on you:grouphug: .

Dave - We'll be at WDW from 9/22-10/1. I hope your DW begins to realize that life is too short to worry about silly things like MONEY (spoken from the mouth of a credit manager:rotfl: ).

I cleaned at my church during my lunch hour today. I will count that as my XT'ing. No running tonight - maybe no yoga either:confused: .

Jodi
No math is involved for determining my training zones now. I have a spread sheet that I enter my resting heart rate and maximum heart rate into and it tells me the training zones and race paces.

My feet are healed and I plan on going 5 tonight if I get home before 10pm. So far, I've only gotten blisters when I venture off-road. Almost blisters develop near the end of a long road run if I do a lot of walking. Walking briskly tends to require more thrust from my feet than running does. I'm going to try some taping methods before Sundays long run.

Dave
My 18 miler is scheduled for early Sunday morning. I'll be with you in spirit for yours on Saturday. It will make my 8 miles seem like a jog in comparison.

Colleen, Sara and Mike
It looks like all of us will be in the 4:00 - 5:00 time range, with me probably being the slowest. But, I'm also probably the oldest. I have a FRESHMAN in college and a JUNIOR in HS.

I'm really looking forward to running with you all.

Happy training everyone,

Chester
W.I.S.H. Half-Fast Marathon Team

Chester - Let me know how you make out with your taping methods. I'm nervous about the Goofy's 2nd half, the full may present problems w/ blisters. I've read about Dean Karnazes using duct tape @ the Western States 100 & was gonna try that this Sat. Bodyglide stops them from becoming full blown blisters, but...

Sara - Chicago? Kewl. Good, you won't be tempted to run while your gone.....right??? No Yoga tonight! Cleaning is definitely CTing!

Wow, lots of chatter today. I have to admit, I am a little worried about my injury, but I will hopefully know what's happening to my bod tomorrow afternoon after my ortho appointment.

Dave, I appreciate you comment about gladly missing a long run to make it to the start line. I need to keep that in mind, I was so sure I needed 3 more long runs in before taper. I guess time will tell.

Jodi, no blowing gaskets! A hot bath is in the plan for tonight. I also solemnly swear no more workouts until I see the ortho tomorrow.

Sara, two speed workouts in one day! I really think your free dining vacation is going to be just what the doctor ordered. ;) I am sure you will come back refreshed and ready to go!:)

Chester, yes, hopefully I will be in the 4-5 hour range. Here's hoping for a cool, calm, dry morning.

One last thing, with this lack of running this week, I feel a little case of taper madness creeping up on me. Geesh, if I feel this antsy after only a 16 mile LR, I wonder what the 3 weeks before MCM will bring.:confused3

Well saw an orthopaedic specialist today and it was one of those good news/bad news days. Good news, he said I wasn't "injured" I just have ITB Syndrome. Dah, well, I already know that.

Dr: (After just a visual inspection of my knee.) So where is the pain? (I show him.) You have ITB syndrome.

Me: I do have a tight ITBand, but I have never had limited mobility and this much pain in my knee. I can barely do a quad stretch without extreme knee pain.

Dr: Well let's see you do a quad stretch (I stretch). Oh, you look pretty good to me.:confused3

Me: Well, I have pain just doing the stretch.

Dr. Yeah, you will.

Me: Well what can I do. Is there a muscle imbalance I can work at strengthening.

Dr: Yeah, sure, that wouldn't hurt.

Me: OK, so strengthen my quad, adductors, abductors and hamstrings??

Dr. Yes, that would help.

Me: So you think I can continue training?

Dr. Don't see why not.

Me: Well, I really hurt after the run.

Dr. You look OK now.

Me: Well that is because I have only ran 6 miles this week.

Dr. See, if it was a real injury you wouldn't be feeling better in a week.

Me: Well, I not completely better, I am suppose to run 8 miles tomorrow.

Dr. Well, don't run that far. Why don't you think doing tris? 26 miles is a long way to run.:confused3

Me: Okey, dokey, see ya later!:rolleyes1

So, he really didn't help me at all. I felt like asking for my copay back. I am really no further ahead. I guess I will just try and get in 8 tomorrow and see how it goes.:sad2:

Good Morning MCM Teammates: :surfweb:

OK, I'm waking up and fueling up for my LR this morning. I have 18 miles on tap this morning, and for some reason I feel really nervous about it. I'm really not looking forward to being out there for 3+ hours. A huge thunderstorm just rolled through with pelting rain. It stopped raining now, but looking at the radar there's an even bigger storm on the way. Uuugh, I think I'm going to head out, and hope the storm stays south of me.

Oh, I forgot to update my training. I did my 30 min x-training SWOG on Thursday, and yesterday I ran 3 miles on the treadmill in 27:56 min/9:19 mpm. I didn't want to run too much yesterday because I was saving my legs for my LR today. The water in the pool on the deep water run on Thursday felt heavenly. Oh, it felt so good on my legs...

Colleen- your interaction with your doctor made me furious . How very frustrating. I'm so sorry you didn't get some better help. This guy was an orthopedist? He sounds like a real dope. Uuugh, good luck out there today. I'm pulling for you.

Jodi- Are you on the road already running?

Sara- What are you ending up doing today? Are you considering the Lake Placid Half Marathon anymore today? Good luck with your LR too.

Chseter- Good luck with your 8 today and 18 tomorrow. Whoa, that's a lot of miles. I'll be thinking of you too.

update: 6:30am and right as I'm ready to head out the door another thunderstorm rolls in. I'm all geared up and it's thundering and lightening. I'm going to stay in to see if it blows over. I was going to be tough and macho and go out in the storm, but then I thought it wasn't a good idea. Watching the radar makes it look like this might be the last storm to pass through. I'll try to head out at 7:00am.

Dave, oh, there is nothing worse than getting all psyched up to go running and then weather gets in the way. I hope you can get out there and get a few miles in.

I slept in until 5 a.m. this morning and was on the road by 5:50 for my 8 miler this morning. It was 67 degrees and it felt soooo good not to sweat just by stepping out the door. It was really a great morning to run. I ran the first two miles really slow to warm up. I miscalculated my mileage and actually ran 9 miles this morning.

mile 1 11:15
2 11:05
3 10:36
4 9:53
5 9:55
6 10:05
7 9:46
8 9:30
9 8:44

I think it works out to about 9 miles in 1:30. I stopped to stretch at mile 6. No GU, just water 24 oz during the run. I feel pretty good now. I can definitely feel an ache, but I will advil, ice and stretch today. During my run, I was thinking about maybe trying running 18 miles on Wednesday if I recover from this run quickly.

Good luck everyone!

Colleen - Congrats on the great run this a.m., 18 miles on Weds??? You're a wild woman, you just can't stop. Take it real easy, 18 is a lot of miles, no? Your encounter with that orthopod was ridiculous, I'm so sorry. What an a**wipe. You'd be better off getting advice from your massage therapist. Are you going to take a full rest day tomorrow, or try & sneak something in??:rotfl:

Dave - Did you get your run in? There's nothing macho about getting zapped by lightning, dude:lmao: glad you stayed in. Waiting for a report.

Sara - Did you go to Lake Placido-domingo?

Mike/Chester - How'd you all make out?

OK, I got up late, around 5:30 & wanting to beat the heat, I went straight out without fueling up. No food, no tea, nada. Bad idea. I did, however, have time to visit the bathroom - ahem - although I did take some TP with me just in case:rolleyes: .

It was heinously humid, but cloudy, so the sun didn't come out 'til the very end of my run. I was supposed to go 16, but @ mile 12 I walked for 4 mins. then ran, then walked, then ran then walked...you get the picture. I did 14 @ a 10:30 mm average. And the last 4 miles were really beat. Ran out of water & gatorade, only brought 1 Gu. I know, the crappy run was my own fault. I planned on running the last 2 later in the day, but now that it's later in the day, I'm not so sure. It's about 90 out right now, blazing sun. Gym's closed. Hmmmmm:rolleyes1

Anyway, hope everyone else had a better time than I did!

I ran Lake Placid this morning. It was too hot & humid to race - especially with a 10:00 start time. I had my worst 1/2 time to date. The funny thing is, my body felt great, relatively speaking, my asthma just couldn't take the humidity. Even with my inhaler I was wheezing like crazy. I thought about DNF'ing a few times but I just walked whenever my airway constricted. I just can't get a break this year with the weather for my races. Splits are as follows per my Garmin:

9:38, 8:56, 9:02, 9:38, 9:21, 9:47, 10:05, 10:09, 11:01, 10:58, 11:23, 11:32 & 11:12. I have 2:15 and change for a finish time. It was chip timed so I'll have to check out the results once posted.

Also, only water on the course, no sort of nutrition whatsoever or gatorade/powerade. That was kind of beat. No medals, only a long-sleeve shirt. It was a LONG 1 1/2 hour drive home since I was solo.

Colleen - I don't mean to laugh but your doctor sounds like a real ****!!
What an idiot:lmao: . Glad you had a great run today:cheer2: .

Dave - I hope you were able to get out there today:cool1: . Personally, I would have preferred rain today for my run.

Jodi - Wasn't it you who said you would go for the 13 mile race over an 18 mile LR?! Yes, I was cursing you today while I was dying out there:rotfl2: . I was thinking how much better a climate-controlled 18 miles on my treadmill would have been in front of the television:confused3 . I am hoping you LR was a good one today:banana: .

Chester - I ended up ordering some Addidas Adistar Cushions today from Running Warehouse. I am looking forward to them arriving when I get back from Chicago on Wednesday. I hope you had an awesome LR:woohoo: .

Well, I am looking forward to a rest day tomorrow. I will be away for a bit this week but will try to check in with you guys for LR reports.

Hello Everyone:

This is the first chance I've had to check in with everyone. I got my run in today. I ended up leaving at 7:00am after the 2nd thunderstorm, and I didn't get rained on once after that. It was still crazy humid though. I was sweating as soon as I stepped out of the house, and my glasses were fogged the whole time. I got my 18 miles done! I finished in 3:09 for a 10:30 mpm pace. I didn't break any speed records for sure, but I got it done and felt OK during the run.

WTG teammates on all your training:

Jodi with your 14 miler,
Sara on your 1/2 marathon,
and Colleen with your 8 miler.

You guys are all inspiring. Great runs!

Jodi with your 14 miler,

Ah, excuse me, I ran 9 miles today!:rotfl: Total weekly mileage of 15.:rolleyes1 But that is ok, I do feel pretty good today and I am pretty optimistic I will get myself to that start line....and finish line.

Thought I would include this pic for the girls.;)

Dave, solid 18 mile LR!

Sara, wow, the half sounded tough. It must have been really frustrating fighting to breath.

Jodi, 14 miles is 14 miles. Next time, eat some breakfast girl!

My mistake Colleen. I apologize - great job on your 9 miler! Seriously, I'm glad you had a good run with all your aches and pains. It sounds like you were a little more comfortable. Good luck with your 18 next week if you decide to do it on Wednesday.

Hi Everyone:

I just received a call from my sister at 8:30am this morning that my Mom has passed away. She's been very sick with dementia for a long time, and has been going downhill for a while. But it was a total surprise that she died this morning.

Sorry for the downer post, but I'm struggling with trying to figure out what to do next.

DAVE Oh no, I am so, so sorry for your loss, what a shock. The loss of a loved one is never, ever easy, no matter how "ill" they may be. My thoughts & prayers go out to you & your family. Does your sister live close to you? Please, please let me know if I can do anything to help in any way:grouphug: .
