Hi everyone! I hope your day is going well.

I have some training miles to report from this morning… up early before work.

Miles: 6
Time: 57:16
Pace: 9:32

Splits:
9:31
9:57
9:28
9:35
9:38
9:06

It was a good effort but I never felt like I had a lot of energy to expend during the run. I need to do better in fueling up pre-run and not just rolling out of bed, lacing the shoes on and going at it.

I live and learn… fun, isn’t it?

:grouphug:

Howard

Howard - some days you just don't have it. I seem to find it easier to get out of bed and run than to run late in the day. At least you got the miles in.

Jodi - Quickbooks...sounds like fun. I'm trying to learn QB on the fly myself. If I had known you were the QB expert I could have hired you to set up my books instead of an accountant. Good luck with NYC this weekend. What time are you shooting for?

Cindy - Good luck at NYC too!!

Chester - Thanks for the clarification. Now I'll do like Mike and work on erasing that image from my head.

Where's Steve?

Hey Colleen, Sara, Dave!

No miles for me this morning. May try to squeeze in a speed run later this evening.

Lou

WTH does THAT mean:rolleyes1 :rotfl:

OH Stop!! You ALL are familiar with my warm-fuzzy persona & know that I was only joshin' :rolleyes1 ...:rotfl2: I would NEVER ask you to torture your kids in such a fashion!! That kind of torture is reserved for immediate family members!!

Lou - QB sucks! Did you run speedy, Gonazales?? I'd like to run a 2 hour 1/2, but who knows?

Mike - WAKE UP!! Today I just succumbed & did the elbow on the table head in hands thing...I wouldn't have wanted to insult the instructor or anything  .

Howard - Fuel/shmool, just roll outta bed & go!! Nice job on a tough run, though:thumbsup2

BABY CARTER IS HERE - if any of you want to post your congrats on the thread Krista & Steve have started (complete with pics).

I'm drowning at work and too busy to post anything else at the moment but HAD to share the good news with y'all.

I hope everyone's having a great week:grouphug: .

Cindy - 13 miles is just a bit much. You're getting a little too hard core for me. Don't forget you have a race coming up. A little taper is in order.

I decided to not taper for this race (although I did cut this morning's run down from 10 to 7 but that was more to get the extra sleep). I'm not expecting a PR and am really focused on training well for the Philly Marathon. I want to run a good marathon and am willing to sacrifice good performances at the other races I will run between now and then.

Cindy - 13 miles on a Monday...very nice. How did you hold up at work all day after the 13? I would be sleeping at my desk after 13 miles.

I was really worried about that but luckily I had a really busy day with meetings and calls. If I had to just sit at my desk and write something, I think I would have had many more problems.

Sara - No talk of heat and humidity please! We need a cold weather dance:dance3:

Chester - :rotfl2:

Jodi - I sent you a PM.

Howard - For morning fuel, I usually eat some pretzels before heading out on my run. Quick carbs and the salt is probably good too given the amount of sweating in this heat.

Dave - I listened to this weeks podcast while running this morning.:goodvibes I don't want to ruin it for you if you haven't heard yet, but you all sounded great (especially your daughters)!

So, after my 13 miler on Monday morning, I ran a 4 mile recovery run on Tuesday, an 8 miler (with 4 at tempo) on Wednesday, and 7 easy miles today (it was supposed to be 10, but I figured 7 was good enough, especially given the half on Sunday and my recent lack of sleep). Today it was actually 64 degrees when I went out for my run (it was in the mid to high 70s for all of my other runs this week). I noticed a huge difference! I was running at a similar effort but had to keep slowing myself down to keep from running too fast.

My 4 tempo miles on Wednesday went really well. I averaged a 9:02 pace. I feel like if I slowed that down a little I could (hopefully) maintain the pace for 13.1 miles. (A 2 hour half is a 9:09-9:10 pace). I don't expect a PR on Sunday and I really don't expect to break 2 hours, but I would be really happy if I did!

Gotta get back to work. Have a great day everyone. Think cold weather thoughts!

YAY BABY CARTER!!!! Welcome to our newest, tiniest, BOT!! Congratulations Steve & Krista!!!:grouphug:

Cindy - Holy running shoes batgirl!! You are putting some heious mileage in!! What's the name of your training plan again? Gotta know which ones to stay away from :rotfl: .

Speaking of training, I suppose I should start training for Philly soon. Besides Cindy & Chester, is there anyone else even THINKING about training yet?:sad2: :rolleyes1

Cindy - What's the name of your training plan again?

Its from the book "Advanced Marathoning" written by Pete Pfitzinger and some other dude. I'm doing the 18 week plan that peaks at 55 miles/week, often referred to as Pfitz 18/55 - its the lowest mileage plan in the book - :lmao: don't think I'll be using any of the other plans anytime soon.

WELCOME CARTER!!! :lovestruc  Congratulations Krista & Steve!!!!

Cindy~ I'll give the pretzels a try and let you know if I feel any more energy on the mornings I run. Thanks!

I have to post quickly and go hose myself down. I am just getting in from a run and in the "cooling off stage". I ran one extra tonight, I was scheduled for 3.

Miles: 4
Time: 35:26
Pace: 8:51

Splits:
8:39
9:03
9:07
8:36

Have a great evening everyone!

Checking in before the weekend.

Chet and I are heading to Tampa this afternoon to do the 3rd Picnic Island Adventure Race. I'll let you all know how that goes on Monday.

The first half week of training has gone well. Thursday nights run will be tonight's race. Saturday will be 5 and Sunday will be 8.

Howard
I agree with Jodi - just roll out of bed and lace up. I don't eat anything before an early morning long run - but I do at least down a bottle of Cytomax. If the runs are double digit, I'll take a couple of gels or beans with and hit a water stop or two unless I've planned to do laps.

Happy training to all.

Chester - good luck on the Adventure Race!

I ran 4 slow/recovery miles this morning.

Matt and I are headed up to NYC tomorrow morning. I'm pretty excited:banana: I took Monday off so that we can spend some time in New York.

The weather is making me a bit nervous - there is a chance of thunderstorms Sunday morning. I don't care if it rains, I just don't want the race to get cancelled because of lightning.

Have a good weekend everyone!
Jodi - I'll see you soon!

Chester - Best of luck to you and Chet:banana:

Jodi & Cindy - I've got the DD's out doing cold weather dancing in the yard before I'll let them swim in the pool:laughing: . We'll keep praying for good weather conditions for you:thumbsup2 . I hope you both have a great race and a blast in NYC:grouphug: .

Everyone else -

This has been a week from h#** workwise and I am so in need of a good LR tomorrow. I've got 9 miles on tap and please send some :goodvibes that it goes well. I'm a bit nervous about my knee's ability to tolerate the LR's on a weekly basis:scared: .

Hey Folks,

Krista and Steve - Congratulations!!!

Chester - Good luck on the race. I hope you guys have fun.

Cindy and Jodi - Have a good time this weekend. I hope the weather cooperates for you and all goes well.

Sara, Steve, Colleen, Howard, Lou and everyone else out there:wave2: .

I've been doing the run to work, run home bit this week. I've had to rush home a bit in the mornings due to appointments/activities so I'm kind of looking at those runs as speedwork.

This morning was a little cooler and low humidity. Wow! What a difference.

Gotta go! Have a great weekend.

Greetings Everyone: I'm waking up and fueling up for a LR.

Chester- Have a great time with Chet in your Tampa adventure race. It sounds like fun.

Jodi and Cindy- Good luck in NYC. Rock it, and I hope you have good weather. Oh, Cindy - I heard the dining review. The whole family gathered around the computer and listened to it. We laughed the entire time. Kevin and John did a great job, and we had a great time with them. They were very fun company, and such nice guys. We feel like we made new friends in Florida.

As for me, I've gotten a couple runs in this week. All and all I've felt very tired. I think I'm still recovering from my trip. I'm going to try to go 10 miles today. We'll see how it goes. I have a goal. I'm going to run from my house to the Buffalo Bills Training Camp at St. John Fisher college (~5 miles from my house). So that will give me about 10 miles round trip, and something to see on the way.

As far as the trip report goes - we had a great vacation. Five days at the Dolphin and 4 days at POFQ. I hadn't stayed at either place so it was all new for me. We liked the Dolphin, but we loved POFQ. It just felt so much more Disney and "vacation-y". There was a conference going on at the Dolphin (dentists), and it started to feel like a conference we would go to for work. All and all I thought the parks weren't nearly as crowded as I expected. If we went at rope drop, they were empty.

The first day we went to MK at rope drop, went right to Fantasyland, and rode everything in an hour. At 9:30a we were walking by Ariel's Grotto (DD10 princess: is a huge Ariel fan), and noticed a character handler standing there (the times guide said it didn't open until 10:00a). I asked if Ariel was there, she said yes, and there was only 1 family in front of us. SCORE!!! We walked in, that family had left, and we had a private audience with Ariel. We took pictures and the girls talked with Ariel for 10-15 minutes. When we left there was still no one in line. My daughters were in heaven.

Other trip highlights were the dining review with Kevin and John from the DIS Unplugged podcast. They were great dinner companions, and so much fun. Also, dropping the kids off at the Neverland Club and having a date night at Narcoosee's was a big hit too. The girls loved the Neverland Club, and Dana and I really enjoyed having an adult dinner.

I surprised Dana with the "Aqua Seas" tour. She loved that too, and the girls and I had fun hanging out in the Living Seas, and watching Dana swim in the tank.

Best ride of the trip - Toy Story Mania! Get there early, get Fast Passes, and ride as many times as you can.

Mike- we had dinner at the Biergarten, and I had my first Optimator for you. It was DELICIOUS!!!

The last night we did Hoop de Doo, and went over to the Chip and Dale campfire at Fort Wilderness. All were a lot of fun. Hoop de Doo was a riot, and a big, big hit.

OK, I need to go get ready for my run.

Dave: I hope your run went well!

Here are my stats for today's scheduled 6 miles:

Miles: 6
Time: 57:23
Pace: 9:33

Splits:
9:35
10:57
9:10
9:14
9:04

I have my first LR above 8 miles tomorrow -- an 11 miler. :scared: I am going to take that one easy too.

Have a great evening and a happy, healthy Sunday.

:grouphug:

Howard

Hi Everyone:

Howard- nice job on your 6 miler. Good luck with your 11 miler today. Sounds like Goofy training to me.

Cindy and Jodi- How did the NYC Half Marathon go?

My 10 miler went just fine yesterday. I finished at a 10 mpm pace, but that included a lot of walking around the Buffalo Bills training camp facility. It was a really nice day to run, and it felt good to get some miles in.

Rest day for me today. I'm going to try to run Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week. I need to get some miles in because I have another trip coming up. On Wednesday I leave for Nicaragua. It's just a long weekend trip, but with the flying times I'll be gone for nearly a week. I'll be back the following Tuesday.

On Wednesday I leave for Nicaragua.

Wow, Dave, you just travel the world with this new job. It must be exciting seeing all these new places. I know the travel there and back must be a pain.

Sounds like your family did some awesome things at Disney. I have been trying to get my family back to Hoop De Doo review, but they all say they didn't enjoy it the first time. I think DH was just in a foul mood and the kids really don't remember since it has been about 4 years ago. Congratulations getting in those miles.

Howard, you too, very consistent with the miles.

So has training for Philly started? :confused3

Wow, has NYC half crept up on us already? Jodi and Cindy, I am thinking about you gals. Can't wait until we hear the reports.

Chester, you too, another adventure race for you. I must go back and read about the white hiney episode. I just skimmed and really didn't get the jist.

Mike, what's up my man? Are you too getting in those crazy miles? How is Kathy?

Hi to Lou, Steve x 2, and Bill?:hippie: Which reminds me, I must pop over to Krista and Steve's new baby thread. That is so exciting!! :yay:

Hi! Well.. the 11 Miler didn't happen. I made it out around 10:30 AM and by the time I was really into my run temps (90's) and humidity (and being tired, having just run 6 last night, being hungry, etc.) did me in. I managed 9 miles overall but I spent most of the time jog/walking.

I went to Bellvue State Park and ran the Northern Delaware Greenway which is a paved hilly, rambling path through woods and in and around the state park. The hills were brutal today due to the conditions.

I realized it wasn't going to happen so I cut my losses and made it a nice walk in the park.

Have a great week!

:grouphug:

Howard

I got 14 miles in on Saturday morning in 2:05:35 for an 8:58 mpm pace. I got out by 7:15AM which was nice because I was able to finish before it got too hot. I ran in Philly again which is always nice.

The down side was that I tripped and fell at Mile 12. I tripped on a brick right in front of a fountain at Logan's Circle on the Parkway. I somehow managed to roll without getting hurt and popped back up and started running without anyone seeing me. I'm a little sore from the fall today but not too bad.

Hope everyone had a nice weekend!!

Lou
