Pets???

So I have a dog that is completely spoiled rotten and has bad anxiety issues (lame I know) and can't be kenneled. It's sad, but one of my biggest worries is when we go down for our wedding our closest family and friends will be with us leaving no one really do watch her!! She doesn't play nice with others so it's hard to even think of someone who doesn't have a pet already! What did you guys do with your pets???

I have a very spoiled little Shih Tzu that I would've cancelled our Disney wedding before I would kennel my baby!!!

I was going to ask our neighbor that has a Shih Tzu if he would be willing to but then my Grandmother who said she doesn't feel well enough for a plane trip said she would be willing to watch him.

Unfortunately, your options are limited if you have a dog that doesn't get along well with others. Is there a friend or relative that you can allow to slowly acquaint with your dog perhaps? How about an in-home pet sitter?

I have a pet sitter

In June 07 we went to a wedding at Disney Vero for the weekend and kennelled our Min Pin with her vet..she came home so tweaked out (she had been kennelled before with no problem) that she became ill. 2 weeks later I couldn't put her back at the kennel when I went to Disney so I hired a lady. She come 4 or 5 times a day and Sami stays in the garage and has no problem.
I liked her so much, she now comes 2x a week to give sami a walk while we are at work.
She watched her again during our cruise/VR in July. Sami is so much calmer when the suitcases come out now..she knows the sitter coming and loves her

My sister use to have someone stay in her house with her dog and sit..but I am not comfortable with someone living in my house..the sitter lived about 10 houses down so she is very close.

I'm over a year and a half out still and am already having anxiety about this! My beloved pooch is 13 years old, blind and nearly deaf. He also has very bad anxiety. My sister watched him for a few days when my dad and i were both out of town. he got so upset, he got really sick and had a bunch of accidents all over the house. We can't have anyone come to our home b/c we had an alarm system put in after our house was robbed. sooo, they just built this pet hotel not too far from us. I'm thinking of looking into that. you can put your pooch in a private room or a community room, and for like $10 more you can get a tv put in your pet's room. I know he'd be ok there but i'm still having a hard time with leaving him there for so long (a week and a half)!

just change you code for the time the Pet Sitter is there..my pet sitter belongs to some "society" where she is registered, bonded and insured so if you want, I can ask her the website and maybe there is a person local you can get to know between now and then

This industry really has emerged in the recent years. Google pet sitters in your area & you will find MANY licensed companies. They have experience pet sitting and know everything they need in case of an emergency.

We kennel our dogs but with three of them, it's not like they are not without some familiarity, you know?

However this last time we found a new place that calls itself a "Muttesori" school for dogs. We called it summer camp!

The dogs were all kept in a general area, none were kenneled, and they were allowed to roam and play with the other dogs. If one had "issues" he went to a "time out" area where he could still see and smell the other dogs but no serious "discussions" could take place.

In addition they were supervised 24-7 (that is probably the most important factor for me). So there was someone there with them at all times.

Our dogs did remarkably well and we will use this place again!

Since you have some time before you have to leave your dog, consider a "day care" type place where your dog can slowly learn to be more sociable and can be introduced into a play area with other dogs. Choose a place that offers overnight boarding and let your dog get acquainted with the people and the place so that when you do have to leave him, he won't be as stressed...he'll be going someplace familiar!

We have two yorkies that could NEVER be put in a kennel (one was abused before we got him and has seizues and can't be put in confined places and the other is a baby but we use a cage for punishment (like when we trained him to go outside) so he sees that as a bad place.

We have NO CLUE what we are doing with them. My parents usually watch them when we go away, but clearly they will be coming with us. There's a service you can pay to come to your house 4 times a day to play, feed, walk, etc...I'm still not okay with that...they still haeva lot of alone time. There are also expensive pet hotels in my area where you can actually video cam with your pet (those with pet babies like me don't think I;m crazy haha)....still though, not good enough for me.

There's a hotel RIGHT outside of Disney that's pet friendly. We are actually thinking about flying them down with us (not sure how that will be though?) and either having family stay there or just stay there ourselves. Our boys are more important to us than the hotel we stay at.

This isn't a bad idea unless you need to stay on Disney property to meet your wedding requirements (DFTW requires a minimum 4 night stay in any Disney owned and operated resort).

However, there may be one other option...there are certain areas within Fort Wilderness that allows pets. I don't know all the specifics (i.e. if you would need your own trailer, or if these locations are cabins) but I know there are a few. You might want to contact the resort itself or ask on the Camping board...

It's another option...

I worry that flying my dogs would cause more stress for them than just staying somewhere. They must be in approved carriers and if they take up a seat (which my three most definitely would) then my airfare cost just skyrocketed!!
