DS#1 graduated Sunday, majoring in Respiratory Therapy with a 3.99 GPA. What a thrill it was to arrive at the ceremony and see that Peter Yarrow was getting his honorary doctorate. What is his "big contribution" you might ask. He has been a singer songwriter with "Peter, Paul and Mary" since the late 50's. We all know his songs even if we don't know of him. No, it wasn't his music but the contribution he has made to education world wide in his anti bullying campaign called, "Don't Laugh at Me". http://www.operationrespect.org/ He could have made a fortune but the program can be downloaded free of charge world wide, and is. He opened his remarks asking who "knows him". Only about a third raised their hands. He didn't mind. He wanted people to know him as he is now. He sang Puff the Magic Dragon and those who knew the words joined in. He talked about life, his beginnings, his childhood and lessons to be learned. It was a wonderful graduation address. He ended it with a sing a long of "Blowing in the Wind".He is 72 years old now. He "did the math". His tone was "everyone's grandfather", warm and genuine. One of the best graduation addresses I have heard in a while.
