The OP is suggesting that they are somehow being "forced" off of this board.. The OP is not.. The OP has a choice - pass by those threads or open them and read them..

It's an ugly time in this country right now.. Some people can't handle the ugliness - others don't want to face reality.. That's fine - however, they should not attempt to dictate what others may or may not discuss..

C. Ann, thats not my feelings at all. I suppose its no different than at election time with all those threads too. Its just that I see the titles and they seem innocent and then you get inside them and they have exploded.
I do bypass ALOT of them and some of them just slap you in the face when you read the titles.
I'm by no means dictating what should or should not be discussed, but let me ask you this. If the debate board was alive and well, how many of these Katrina posts would still be on the Community board? I'm just asking for a temporary situation. Since everyones feelings and emotions are so raw right now I thought perhaps it would help.

Thank you for explaining your position more fully.. A private PM to a moderator probably would have been the better way to go - then once a sub-board suddenly appeared I'm sure there wouldn't have been such a negative response..

Emotions are raw.. Days ago we have sent money to help the victims and then we have sat by day after day wondering why they were still without food and water.. It has caused anger, frustration, sadness and a 101 other emotions.. People need to express those feelings and the "living room" of the DIS is as good a place as any..

I'm sorry if I jumped on you, but I will not remain silent about my feelings on this disaster and I'm sure that you really don't want to "silence" anyone..

Frankly, I just don't see how the OP's post was offensive? Of course we all have the right to disagree. IMO the OP's suggestion was a helpful one. I don't see the harm in creating a board for anyone that is interested in discussing Katrina. As usual someone has to "pounce" and decide she is trying to "dictate" what others discuss.

As for the suggestion of a Katrina sub board, I think it might be a good idea. It would allow the people who want to discuss it to continuye to do so, and it would allow the CB, which has been understandably taken over by Katrina threads, to return to normal.
