Petals & Pixie Dust Planning Journal 11/30/2009/2010

Can't wear it... do you play with chemicals like I do?! :rotfl:

No, I work want to work with kids and families...but there are some parts of town and/or working with delinquents that I wouldn't want to wear my e-ring around...
Playing with chemicals sounds much more fun though! Maybe I'll go back to school...:rolleyes1

OK, Questions -

What's the Sally Lunn meal thingy??

What's the penny in the shoe for? - I figure it's a superstition, but what for?

GOod job on your list! Very organized! :thumbsup2

I love the save the dates idea, very cute! and you had me cracking up about STD's. One day i was on here and DF saw a sentence on the screen that said "what do you think of my STD's?" he got the wrong idea and asked "what kind of site are you ON??" :lmao:

Anyway You seem like you've got alot done! I think i'm going to borrow your idea and make myself a list too.

Sally Lunn is one of the tea menu choices. Here is the description from allears.net:

Sally Lunn bread dates back to the 18th century where it was baked fresh, then sold on the streets of Bath England by the creator. Here at the Grand Floridian, we have carried on this tradition of this sweet yeast bread served lightly toasted with apricot preserves. This is followed by a choice of either trifle or strawberries and cream, along with your choice of tea. $13.50 per guest.

I had such a hard time with doing the HDDR for dinner that I didn't want a "meal" per-say. So, this will work. Just a snack.

A penny for your shoe: from superweddings.com

Something old, something new, Something borrowed, Something blue, And a silver sixpence in your shoe". This well known little rhyme originated during Victorian times and is still commonly practiced for good luck. Traditionally, the "old" would have been the garter of a happily married woman, with the thought being that her good fortune would be passed down along with it. The "new" stood for the couple's new bright and happy future together. "Something borrowed" was usually a much valued item from the bride's family. It symbolized prosperity within the new union, but would bring that good fortune only if it was returned to the family. "Something blue" came from an ancient tradition in which the bride would wear a blue ribbon in her hair as a symbol for fidelity. Placing a silver sixpence in the bride's shoe was to ensure wealth in the couple's life. Today brides often slip a penny inside their shoe before the ceremony in place of the difficult to acquire silver sixpence. As such, the rhyme is often adapted to "...And a lucky penny in your shoe".

Thanks. I'm kind of shocked...it didn't look like I had a lot done until I actually wrote it down. Guess I have more figured out than I thought. I love the save the date idea too...I think it will be something fun to send once I to call in November and actually have a date!

So, my dad and mom felt bad that various family members would not be present for the wedding. I think I posted that DF and I discussed a Wishes wedding...but financially it wasn't in the cards. SO...I explained this in great detail to my mom. I explained that for what we want our budget is realistic and that to bump up to a Wishes wedding everything was al a carte. So, when I gave her the $3,000 price tag of the WP, she asked "What comes with that?" -Um...Mom...just the WP. "Oh." Was her only response. After a lengthy conversation...(Yes mom's cakes do get that expensive! But with an Escape they are included in the price.) A light went on for her  She was glad that we had the conversation.
Later she explained this to my dad and explained it the same way I did....and then told him that to bump to a Wishes wedding it would cost us ...oh roughly $25,000 (ok the high side of things...but hey...for what we wanted...close...maybe) Dad agreed-the Escape is the way to go! :thumbsup2

It seems like lately I just can't sleep. All of this 'job stuff' keeps me awake at night and I find myself worried....So, I wedding plan. Is it normal for your wedding planning to keep you calm? :rotfl:

Anyway, I was taking a look at the Disney Florist website :surfweb: I have NO clue what I am going to do for altar floral. This is probably the biggest thorn in my side wedding wise. If you have been reading you know how important the movie Beauty and The Beast is to me...I really wanted to do something with the rose and the glass dome....I wasn't certain that it was something that could be recreated-after all how do you get a rose to float in mid air while surrounded by a glass dome? Well, my search lead me to this....

We need to get rid of the cheesy greenery that is around it, but it is something to work with. The website said something about limited quantities...I'm not sure what that meant. :confused3 Either way, it is in my picture inspirations and at least I have a starting point!!! My other concern is what would I do around it? Candles? Extra floral? All I know is that the fake vine thing has got to go!

Next, boutonnieres. I feel stuck with just using red roses and am doing my best to spruce it up a little. Any ideas anyone can find will be greatly appreciated...but here is what I found...

I like the red wire on this one around the stem. Not a huge fan of the wire in the rest of the design. Looks like someone just got lazy.

I like the curly tail on this one. Not super thrilled with the pearls.

So, I'm thinking that maybe...I just might have to mock up my own and pass it along to Rose. I'm thinking maybe red wire, curly tail, Tiffany blue hidden Mickey.

Thoughts???

 I like the pearls, but the leaves on the rose make me think it looks dead... :rotfl:

What's the disney florist web page? I'm pretty stuck for centerpieces and the likes too...

It's ok :thumbsup2 I googled it. Disneyflorist.com easy enough!

You're right with the dead rose looking part.
Hang on I'll look it up for you...

Nevermind you found it! :rotfl:

DISbride Ember had this at her shower. She posted it in the floral thread. Here's a link to the post.

Thanks for the link. It will make it much easier to find :thumbsup2 I've seen this before and that is when I knew it was possible, but didn't realize that Disney could do it....if that makes much sense. I need to learn to ask or search Disney more before jumping to conclussions! :lmao::thumbsup2

If you plan on using a fake rose for this... would it be possible to find a glass dome with a wooden base, much like the one you found, and drill a small hole in the center of it? Make it just small enough to fit the stem. Considering fake roses have wire in the center of the stem, it should be sturdy enough to stand on its own. Then you could just decorate around it with loose rose petals. Sure it isn't necessarily floating... but you don't have to hide some thing to hold it up using greenery and such. :thumbsup2

Ember used Play-doh. The drill a hole thing might work. I think I'd just rather swap out the fake greenery for the real thing. I'm thinking about having some greenery and red roses surround the base and cascade over the table at the altar. If we end up with a night wedding I might add some pillar candles to it...I've got time...but at least I have some sort of start point.

I never thought about fake flowers being more sturdy with the wire and stuff...Good call! :thumbsup2

Here is something I'm really torn on....videography. I want it...then I wonder if we will really watch it enough to make it worth it. Then, I talk myself out of it. After that I worry about whether or not I'll remember everything about that day...Then, I think about cost...and after that I wonder if I can get DF to do it as a Christmas, Hannunka, birthday, wedding gift. Then I think well that's a little shallow. Then I worry about not having it and wanting to remember the day...Oh geez. *sigh*

I really wanted Starfruit Productions...They are too expensive since their prices went up. So, now I am on the search for a wedding videographer...and then trying to figure out if I can squeeze it into the budget.

I have a wish list of "stuff" I want...
-Aisle rose petals
-Major Domo-for my mom. She saw this and was in love. B/c of all of the planning that she is part of I would love this to be a surprise for her. :woohoo:

The reception stuff is still in the air. I guess it depends on what time our wedding is...if we end up with a morning wedding, I'm thinking that we will do a lunch reception and then MVMCP in the evening. Oh heck. I don't know. I can't even figure that out until we get dates and times squared away.

So, DF is sold on this whole ring that fits together with my e-ring. He came around and agreed that if we were to purchase the one with the diamonds on it and it did happen to spin that it wouldn't look right...So, he found this one....

Womens-Wedding-Bands-18k-White-Gold.jpg

It's growing on me. He also said that we could get a regular band just in case I have a job where I can't/shouldn't wear my e-ring/band. Or for those times where we go camping. The e-ring and stuff would be much safer at home than in the woods!

DF still likes the band I posted previously for him. I like the ring. I just want him to be happy with it.

I told him to let the plain band grow on me. I know I'm being difficult. BUT the whole bump, spin thing is just an issue for me. :rolleyes1 DF said he called the store and asked specifically about the bump and spin. The woman said that this ring was made to specifically fit with my e-ring and that the design is the closest you could get to saudering them together.

I think we are a little closure than we were...which is a good thing! :woohoo:

I'm the same with the videography, I'd probably never watch it, but I really want the live streaming for people who can't make it. But then I think about the fact that I've never been able to watch a live streaming, because they're generally in the middle of the night, so I don't think anyone would watch it :confused3
But then I would have a video to show people who couldn't come... It does just go back and forth doesn't it??

Yup. It's the never ending battle I have with myself. :rotfl:

I'm really glad we have the video. They caught moments that pictures can't. The Best Man speech was amazing, and I have it all on tape! (or DVD, I guess. Man, I just dated myself!)
