Pet Peeves

This is offtopic to be certain, but very blond hair, especially processed hair, and disolved copper, which is invisible, is a bad mix. (often in pool water)

It turns 'blond' into a really nasty shade of olive green. If it's not too bad, you can help it with special shampoo or soda water.

But there's also a point of no return. If the discoloration is bad, there is no remedy, excpet cutting off your hair.

Hair highlight run upwards of $150 every six to ten weeks.

Maybe it's vanity to want to protect a $300+ investment....

If you've seen it once though it's a lesson you never forget.

Okay...So I try not to walk by these and don't even like to look, BUT since you asked:

I hate seeing kids sitting in strollers in the smoking section with their parents and a crowd of others smoking away. So sad!

You know Walt smoked around his kids. You know back in the 70's I cant ever remember going into a house where there wasnt an ash tray on the coffee table or people who didnt smoke around kids. Heck, I knew many people who used to smoke in the car with the windows rolled up. Now, its one of my peeves too but they're not mine to judge (former smoker).

Another peeve, cussing. I hate to hear it.

Yes....Aware of that. Also daughter of a smoker and lost my mother to a smoking-related illness :(

I can remember my mother and her sisters smoking in the car with me and I would have to lay down in the floor boards b/c I couldn't breath. (Even with the windows rolled down!)

That being said...Now that we know what second hand smoke does, I just don't understand why anyone would do it in this day and age.

My father was a smoker from 17 to 67. He suffers some lingering issues, but feels better overall. He does not cough all night in his sleep anymore.

Several years ago, after quitting, we talked about it. He smoked everywhere; in the house, in the car, at his desk, even flying on a plane several times a year.

One of my chores each week, when I was old enough to start earning money to do so, and my mom went to work full time so I could go to college, was clean out his ashtray everyday.

To this day, he apologizes profusely, but it is what it is...you cannot change it. I am proud of him that he did quit.

:
I had children before I became disabled. I had children when I was fit and healthy. My condition is "invisible" and I often see people glaring at me when I have to say no to one of my children. If they have to judgemental without knowing the true facts about me then that is their call. I don't ever regret having my children but I wasn't to know what was in store for me.
:grouphug: You shouldn't have to justify yourself to anyone. If people would just focus more on themselves and their own flaws, things would be much better here and everywhere else.

Agree on cursing..at Disney world....in front of preschoolers and kids. I don't need my child to learn a new word at the happiest place on earth :)

I am glad my parents didnt think that way or I wouldnt be here:confused3. My mom cant swim, she is deathly afaid of water, she will only get in the pool if her feet can touch and someone else is there. But despite not driving (she learned to drive at 46 when my dad died suddenly) we would walk very far to our local swim club so I could get lesssons and I could swim everyday of the summer. I too at 6 did not understand this and begged for my mom to come in with me, esp as an only child at the time, if my friends were not there that day, she would sit on the edge. It wasnt until later that I understood her absolute terror of the water. I could not fathom that at 6.

Or both my parents fear of roller coasters and heights, I would beg and plead to go to amusement parks, I did not understand my parents at all, even when I was 17 I was begging my dad to come on Space Mountain with me, and I didnt appreciate and comprehend his heart issues or his fear. Luckily I had uncles there that took me on the ride.

So maybe the lady was using her hair as an excuse vs scaring her child of something she doesnt want her to be fearful of like she is...which is water! I know I hide my fear of things so it wont hinder my child, if he is not afraid than I want him to go for it, with safety in mind of course!

Or she is selfish witch who doesnt want to mess with her do, but meeting her in a WDW pool, I dont think you can know her whole story.
You know, it sounds just from the posts that Chloe4ever is young, she may not have kids. She may still have this idealized view of parenting. She might not realize that hearing the word "no" will not harm a child,in fact it may do them some good.

My mom never went into the pool with me, ever. I'm not traumatized by this fact, lol.

Thought of another pet peeve:

T-shirts with "nasty" things and sayings on them. My children can read!

As a side note: *Flame shield firmly in place* While we enjoyed the majority of the t-shirts during Gay Days, a small portion of the t-shirts were terrible! We were there with our family in tow for full support and it was just sad to see some of the shirts. With that being said, we will not let that change our opinions or stop us from going again on that weekend to support our friends! :grouphug:

When did pet peeves become debatable? The day they made a thread about them, of course.

I completely agree with the peeve about swearing. I am certainly no saint, and the odd four letter word has been known to occasionally pass my lips. But not in front of children.

I'm aware of the way things use to be as far as smoking goes. You use to be able to smoke INSIDE a hospital. Smoke at your desk at work. A doctor use to prescribe smoking for stress relief. The dangers of smoking were completely unknown.

As far as today goes when EVERYONE is aware of the dangers of smoking. The debilitating and life threatning illnesses it causes. The havoc it wreaks on childrens still developing bodies. Today it's a different beast because even though people KNOW it's horrible for themselves and WORSE for their children they STILL choose to smoke in front of their kids. You can't even smoke in a bar where I live it is that bad.

I grew up in a smoking household so I am very aware of what it did to me. I now have asthma. I am the only one who got it. I am the only one who to this day doesn't smoke. I would list smoking around children not only as a peeve but a form of child abuse. Yeah I went there. Flame away!!!

My pet peeve in disney has to be the hostility of people during parades. I have been to the macys thanksgiving day parade many times in my life, and in all my experience with that parade, people respect your space and don't try to snake your spot. People can say what they want about New Yorkers, but I have never had someone try to last minute steal my spot (I am guessing for fear of the verbal wrath that would come with it :rotfl:) Yet in disney, I have seen this happen far too often. I usually just come last minute and see what I can, but I would never dream of trying to get in and stand in front of someone who has been sitting on the sidewalk for 90 minutes. I get it, we are tired, hot and exhausted, but there is no reason to throw manners out the window because you want to see a parade YOU showed up last minute for.

Trust me, they're just as hostile in December when it's not hot out.

Maybe people are less likely to stake out an early spot at Disney because they want to be off doing rides until the bitter end. There aren't rides to do when you're waiting for the Macy's Thankgiving Day Parade.

No flames from me, but quite a strong statement.

Back on topic...I wonder why parents allow their kids to eat the greasy fried chicken, fried turkey legs and fries served at CS and then allow them to indulge in the "yummy" cupcakes, dole whips etc., knowing that child obesity is epidemic in this country.

Maybe because they've been released from their regular boot camp where every calorie must be carefully calculated.:rolleyes1 Maybe because they are on vacation and are allowed to eat food that they normally restrict to rare or occasional use. Ease up. A few high fat, high calorie meals isn't going to turn them into butterballs over night.

Why? Because this will likely be their only trip to Walt Disney (World or Land). Both of my children (8 & 6) will take broccoli or fruit over a cookie and whole grain bread over white bread any time of day. 6 nights and 7 days of eating at Walt Disney World will not make them obese.

I'm sure you are right. It takes awhile for a kid to become a butterball.
