I have two pet peeves - I am curious about your thoughts.

One is backing into parking spots in crowded lots. Most of the spots are pretty narrow, so it takes a long time to get in while the line up of cars grows. Wasting 2 minutes of my time (I hate waiting in cars) when the task could be completed in 10 seconds or less.

The other is folks dragging their carts in grocery stores. When they push the carts they take up one lane. WHen they drag the cart, they are off to one side and take up two lanes, thus impeding oncoming shopping traffic. THis behavior seems to be accompanied frequently by yapping on a cell phone, so they are oblivious to oncoming traffic,

Rude and self centered behavior ? Or am I just sensitive because I hate shopping?;) ;)

Backing into a stall doesn't bother me at all. I've been backing up cars since I first learned how to drive. I agree if you can't do it rather quickly, then it probably isn't wise to do that. However I know my brother does it with his truck because it's easier to pull out of the stalls rather than try to back out.

I don't know if I would say rude, but I guess a pretty inconsiderate. How about this one? Last weekend, we happened to get THE spot right on front of the door at Sam's (which is always a zoo on the weekends). So we've got a cart full of crap and two kids when we get back to the car. This lady sits there and waits the entire time while we unload the car, get the kids buckled in and take the cart back to the store. And she was right in the middle of the lane too, no getting around her.

Sorry, but if I come across a primo parking spot like that, all bets are off! I think most people understand that it's the nature of the beast to sometimes get behind someone waiting for a good parking spot. It goes against human nature to see that spot and be willing to give it up to someone behind you....:rotfl:

Also, you could have simply sent your husband and kids back to the entrance and pulled your car up to the front to unload your cart, thereby freeing your space for someone who needed it. It's not a pet peeve of mine by any means, but the opposite of the people who sit and wait for a good parking space are the people who take their own sweet time using the space even though they see people waiting for it. Guess it depends on which car you are waiting in or how much patience you have!!!

The first one, I encounter often, and it makes me so mad! I park in a parking garage in the city for work, and the spots are narrower than in your average mall parking lot. It takes some skill (and TIME) to squeeze in those tiny spots by backing in. No one can get around them when they are doing so. And of course the people that do it always seem to drive huge SUVS, taking even longer. Can someone please explain the need to back in to me? Especially when there are several cars that have to sit there and watch?!?!?!

The second one is annoying, but I don't really think I run into it much.

If someone could do it quickly, I would have no problem. But essentially since it takes them so long, they are impeding the flow of traffic in two lanes. Alot of our parking lots have pretty compact spots, and the cars doing this are trucks and SUVs. (which leads me to another pet peeve - large cars parking in spots marked "compact" - I have had to get in from the passenger side on several occasions because of them parking so close)

There are specific spots for "compact" cars???

The first one I really can't stand and it drives me buggy! The second one I don't have any problems with!

I agree, you shouldn't back in unless you are parked in the back 40 of the parking lot so when you are inching forward and inching back or whatever it is no one's problem but your own. I prefer to back in, that way I don't have to worry about running over anyone when backing out- but I always park in the back of the parking lot. It's rude IMO to do it where all the traffic is.

I can't stand it when someone in front of me at a traffic light puts on the left blinker AFTER the light turns green, and I'm going straight. Also, I can't stand it when someone cuts me off, and then proceeds to go really slow. And here in NJ, in heavy traffic, you will get some idiot behind you, in the left lane, on your bumper, trying to make you go faster, even though there are tons of cars in front of you - um, should I just plow into them? :confused3

I actually saw someone back in when they couldn't have driven through and ended up facing the opposite direction as if they backed in from the other lane.
Its a waste of time, I don't get it.

I am so sorry i took up two minutes more than I am allowed but I have to back into a spot otherwise I will not be able to get out. I drive a 15 passenger van. If I drove in frontward, trust me, you'd be waiting longer while I tried to get out. Usually I fine a spot where I can just drive in (back to back spot) but sometimes I have no choise. Sorry, not trying to make you miserable.

Sorry, just had to clear this up because I get the looks all the time. I am not being rude, just safe.

Neither of these things bother me!

A friend of mine teaches a defensive driving course. One of the things they teach is that you should back into a spot so that you have a full view when you are leaving the parking spot.

:confused3

Not much difference in waiting for someone to back into a parking space when they arrive or back out of the space when they leave.

Either one probably takes about the same amount of time.

The first one doesn't bother me that much, but I with you on the second one.

Please don't tell me I'm the only person who has a small stash of goofy things in my cart (vienna sausages, condoms, sardines...anything that strikes my funny bone that day) to lob into those unattend carts blocking the aisle.
It makes me laugh to imagine those people when they loading their items on the belt..."why do I have Preparation H in there...?"

I agree. I am a nervous wreck that I am going to run someone over. I have to drive the van so I try to be extra safe. It is about safey sometimes not about inconviencing anyone.

Exactly. I've seen it too many times that parents just let their children run through the parking lot. (but of course no one on the Dis does this) I'm sorry that in the SUV or van I won't be able to see your child before I run them over.;)

Haha, I think you or one of your groupies must have gotten me one day. I found a child's toy in my cart one day..I was like...WTH?? :rotfl:
