OK! said:One last thing: the chickens are, in essence, rescues (or at least are descendants of a rescue). My parents'd never had chickens till one day, a hen picked up and left one of their neighbors and opted to set up shop in my parents' barn. We cleverly named her "Chicken," and she became part of the family. She came when she was called, just like a dog, running full-sprint from the barn down to the house. When I'd go out to the house to help my mom in the garden, Chicken would always be right at my side (or my mom's) waiting for us to hand-feed her any worms we came across while digging in the soil. She followed us around, just like a puppy. Eventually, my parents "borrowed" a neighbor's rooster for a bit so Chicken could have some babies, and ever since, there've been a couple dozen chickens roaming around the joint. Best eggs you've ever tasted, too; store-bought ones don't hold a candle to them.
OK!, I've enjoyed reading about your pets...horseback-riding chickens is hysterical! Must be fun to hang out at your family's houses!
