"Personally, I think I would make a great stripper!" 8/10 The End

Wow, I missed a week and got way behind! We lost a dear friend this week and I haven't had time to get on the boards. He had a massive heart attack and died at the very young age of 37. It's been very difficult for his wife, my dd's bff since high school. It's really made me realize what's important in life and to cherish my family.

Anyway, I loved the latest updates. The keys are such a fabulous place to visit. I recognised the place you stopped at for the key lime pies, it's my favorite place to have it down there. The frozen chocolate covered on a stick is so yummy!

I can't wait to hear what you thought about Pop Century. We're staying there for the first time in September. I love to hear what others think about the place.

The ACT is a different college-admissions exam, much like the SAT. The SAT assesses reading, writing, and math, and has a required essay component. The ACT, on the other hand, assesses reading, writing, math, and science, and has an optional essay component - kids choose when they register whether to take the test with writing or without.

Most colleges will accept scores from either the SAT or ACT when making admissions decisions. The ACT seems to be more regional - when I taught in NY, none of my students took the ACT, but here in TX, probably 70% take the ACT, either instead of or in addition to the SAT.

Oh, I see! Thanks a lot for explaining that!

Here in NC, maybe 25% take the ACT. However, I have heard that some colleges don't even look at your SAT essay, so though it's required, it doesn't really impact anything in the end....:confused3

I just rewatched Bolt last night!

Gawd, I love Rhino. "Rhino is aaaawesome. Rhino is.....BEYOND awesome! Rhino is....BE-AWESOME!!!"

I am a lurker. But I had to say that I have loved your trip reports. You are so funny and your family looks great. I can tell you are all good people. I'm just having a great time following your TR.

Hey Dawn,

You shouldn't feel a bit ashamed about getting out of the car and yelling at that woman! She deserved it.

Also, when abouts did you begin your pretrippy (I sadly never got to read it) but i'm going to possibly start one for my December trip 12/12-12/18. And, do you have any pointers about doing so? :goodvibes

Nice report!
Thanks!:)
You seriously werent kidding about the crazy lady!!! I can understand why you went out of the car and yelled. But hey at least you made it to Disney and WPE!
I am so excited to write this part - but only a few more days and then we are all done!:sad1:
Bolt was a pretty good movie, I'm glad I watched it. Rhino was hilarious of course! :lmao:

I have heard nothing but great reviews for Toy Story 3. I can't wait!

Finally all caught up after a week away at WDW! :)
Ohhhh!!!! How was your time?
Dawn, if Carsyn doesn't feel strongly about the ACT, have her try the SAT as well. In my experience as a high school teacher, I've found that the two tests showcase talents very differently... and students who don't do great on one often do much better on the other.
I will let her know! Thanks so much. Most kids here only take the ACT.

Thanks so much for the Nike info, Dawn! You are a wealth of road trip knowledge :thumbsup2
It is what I hoped I would have when I grew up!!!:rotfl:
Having a stinky night.......I want another chapter! :rotfl2:
Sorry we had an internet outage for over 2 days here and it was slow/wonky the whole weekend! Ugh! sorry!

So sorry and after loosing a cousin in January at 32, I understand. :grouphug: To all of you.

We hardly spent anytime there. Never at the food court, never at the pool. We had a newly decorated room and it was nice but it is loud there IMO. Way loud in the rooms from neighbor noise and outside sidewalk noise.

That is Dan's favorite quote!

So glad there are some new people still finding us!!

I think you should start one. I would say write from the heart and have fun in exploring your trip with others in mind. Details are the fun parts. I have links to my PTR's in all my first pages of my TR's.

I am sorry of the internet issues! I can get a chapter out tom!

Anyone want an AMAZING caramel corn recipe that is sooooo easy and tastes better than any other I have bought or had????????:worship:popcorn::

I swear you will be thanking the Cooking Gods for this recipe! Most of us have a 1/2 stick of butter, 1/2 cup of brown sugar and a bag of microwave popcorn around so this is easy to whip up for unexpected company to munch on!

Caramel Corn Crazy

1 - 3 oz (or close) bag microwave popcorn - you can use any brand/any flavor but I prefer the tender white kind. (I have used reg popcorn as well if I did not have the microwave kind handy.)

1/2 cup light brown sugar - packed tight!

1/4 cup of salted butter (real stuff)

2 Tbsp Light Corn Syrup

1/4 tsp of salt

1/4 tsp of baking soda

Pop popcorn first and have in large microwave safe bowl ready to go! Now make the caramel mix!

1. Melt the butter first in a microwave safe container.

2. Add brown sugar, corn syrup and salt and heat at full power for 1 minute. Stir.

3. Repeat the process for an additional 30 seconds and then mix and keep heating 30 seconds at a time and mixing until mixture comes to a slow boil.

4. Stir baking soda in mixture and keep stirring as it gets lighter and bubbles up - almost doubling in size.

5. Add to popcorn immediately and stir or cover and shake.

6. Heat popcorn mix in microwave while covered for 45 more seconds.

7. Mix again and enjoy!!!

Now I also enjoy making it with 1/2 dark brown sugar and 1/2 light brown. Or you can add M&M 's or cashews to the popcorn! I also have added 1/4- 1/2 tsp of vanilla to the caramel mix for more flavor from time to time but I say start with the original and get funky as you re-make because this stuff never is made only once!!!! These make great popcorn balls!

If you are not eating the bowl right away - you can spread on a silicone mat or wax paper to cool and not get too clumpy. With 3 teens here we usually double the batch and between them and friends - there is never any extra left to worry about for the next day!

Let me know when you have tried it! :surfweb:

woooow, that sounds really good.

BTW. I made the banana bread again, this time as a loaf. I added some unsweetened choco chips and it is PURE LOVE. Bananas and chocolate just seem to be made for eachother

When did they add the Essay component to the SAT?? It's been a while since I took them but I didn't have to write an essay...

I think I have to make that caramel popcorn very soon...:stir:

MMmmmmm... I  Carmel Corn!!! :cool1:

The caramel corn sounds great! Will definitely try it.

Dawn - since you're such a good cook, I'll throw this out to you ... do you have any recipes for Caramel Kettle Corn? Miller Park (where the Brewers play) sells a caramel kettle corn that is to die for. Not too sweet, not too salty. We call it 'crack' in our house because you get seriously addicted to it. Let us know if you have anything like that ... thanks!
