For our trip DW and I Want to pick up some new ears. I have heard they only do "legal names" but while my name is Bernard, everyone calls me Bern. My wife is Susanna, but everyone calls her Suzy. Will those be a problem?

I could be wrong, but I would think they're not talking about shortened versions of given names, but about things that aren't actually names, like some people's user IDs here on DISboards.

My name is Jennifer and they put Jen on my ears last year. I don't think it will be a problem. I agree with the PP that they probably mean screen names, and anything obscene.

Those are fine. The guidelines have actually bee lifted a little & nicknames are allowed as long as their not inappropriate or copyrighted.

It's more for not getting Sneezy, Cinderella or your Sorority's Letters. A standard nickname is fine.

Wow i wouldnt think there would be any problem.. We are definately getting ears when we go!

I literally have a set of ears that have Bern embroidered on them, as I too am Bernard but am known mostly as Bern. You'll be fine!

Yup, Ray got Ray (Instead of Raymond) and i got Jacie (Instead of Jacelyn.) They have no way of knowing that you aren't just Bern, anyways. :)

When we went, we got ears that said "Auntie" with no issues. :lovestruc

I got my graduation 2011 ears embroidered with Doc with no problem. They were not willing to put Ph.D. on it or any titles.

Matter of fact, I had bought the ears months before...and the embroidery was complimentary!

I was surprised at how expensive the ears have gotten. When we went in 2005 the ears were 6.95 and they embroidered them for free. They also had a hugh selelction of different types. This year we went and the plain ones were 13.95, the character themed ones started at 16.95 and depending on where you asked to get them embroidered it was $3 for plain thin text, up to $7 for the same. The fancier and thicker the text the more expensive.

We were just there last week and saw many different kinds of names on hats including some nick names that were not shortened versions of a person's name. One was "Lil" something or another.

ya i would not think that would be a problem.. i can just see if it was inappropriate

my fiance and i got wedding ears with our wedding date on it, back in march and they did not question it.

Ok so today I went to the Disney website and was looking at the section about celebrating special occasions. I got to the FIRST VISIT and they talk about getting Ears with your name. This is EXACTLY copied and pasted from the Disney website:

"Create-Your-Own Ear Hat

Merchandise | Shopping |

Have you heard? Your commemorative apparel can be uniquely yours when you personalize it for your celebratory visit at the Chapeau at Magic Kingdom Park or Downtown Disney Marketplace area. Have your name or nickname embroidered into a Mickey Ears hat that's all your own."

It says "name OR NICKNAME"!

And here is the link to the page for those who won't believe me. lol

I was always told it could not be a nickname but here it is on the official Disney website!
