Personalized bricks at Polynesian

I guess I'm lucky--we got a brick the last week they were available in July 2000 after our first trip. It is on the walk from the Poly to the TTC. It still looks pretty good because only people walking to the Poly go there. Some of the TTC bricks look rough.
We didn't have room for our hometown though, with Bill, Robin, Kelly, Erin &Ryan McConnell on it--we ran out of room. Thank goodness we knew we were done having kids!

I wonder if he transposed your numbers by mistake and your in EA2057 ?? I looked at the map and can't see a EA0 section?

I thought that to but i called and he read me the number as well. Ill just have to wait to get my map i guess.

Another WA0 owner who called WDW and asked the location of the "0" bricks was told that they were centered in front of the MK, so I figure that they're in the gray circle on the aerial shot in between W1 and E1. I would guess that WA0 would be somewhere in the left side of the circle and EA0 would be somewhere on the right half. At least, that's what I'm hoping for!! :teeth:

wouldn't that just be the COOLEST !!!:thumbsup2

I have to say I am really sorry to all those who missed it, but Disney isn't really at fault IMHO....they did not advertise this in ANY way except for when the OP went to WDW a few months ago....this all came about from our posts HERE on the DIS...it was snowball effect....the internet can do that.

so they filled their brick spaces up and they are done. It was never out there as an offer. I am sure the CM's didn't know how to handle this UNEXPECTED response...you know?? try not to be too angry...I do realize its disappointing though. :headache: ;)

Rumor has it, as Disney-Kim and I are talking about, is that the WA0 and EA0 bricks are in, or very close to, the circle in the middle of the map between W1 and E1.

As someone who didn't get a brick, I find this post rather mean spirited in a nyah-nayh-nayh way. Perhaps I am a bit sensitive on the subject, but I feel like my nose is being rubbed in the fact that I wasn't as fast as you.

I have to disagree about disney not being at fault, since I called the number on the 30th and was told they were for sale, got my paperwork the 31st via email from Denise and faxed it back the same day, and was told I was getting a brick by Denise via email.

eta not to mention the fact that from some rumors it seems that they stopped selling the bricks on the 25th- 5 days before my paperwork was sent to me and I was told I was going to be able to get a brick!!!

Now, if I had just gotten the form from someone here via PM, and then sent it in on the 31st I would agree- that would not be disney's fault, since I did not speak to them at all. However, since disney sent me the paperwork directly, and told me I would get one, IMO yes, this dissapointment is definately their fault.

I am just lucky my dd is young and hopefully will forget that I had told her we were getting a brick with her name on it... I feel bad for any who have older kids who may be really disappointed by this.

Thanks to the person who said I could add my dd's name on my old brick... I wonder how much changing they will do? Our old brick had me and my parents names on it... I wanted to get a new one with me, dh and dd's name (our new family, kwim?). Maybe it could work... I will have to look into it.

I got two bricks and I still think that Disney handled the situation very poorly and I have no reason to have sour grapes. They really should have had a better way of tracking how many were available as sales progressed, regardless of how they were sold (in person or via fax). Possibly they could have stressed when people called that they only had a few left and that you may or may not get one...I really don't know what the right answer is, but I feel that it was terrible to send people the info when apparently the program was already sold out and that definitely did happen because some folks were emailed applications as late as 6/2 & 6/3 and Disney surely should have known by then that they did not have anymore to sell. I love Disney and I will defend them to the death on most everything, but I don't think this was a shining example of their great service. Definitely agree it was not Dean, Denise or anyone else's fault that was there answering the phones, but the system they were given to work with was lacking. The fact that the higher ups are letting their front line people bear the brunt of the dissatisfied customers does not sit too well with me either-I think the people who did not make it for this round of brick sales should have been notified directly and at the very least given an explanation and some type of apology. Common decency, that's all.

From what I understand a "name change" basically means you replace your brick with your new wording on it. You need the number of your old brick I think so they can find it and replace it. It looks like the same form since it mentioned something on it about name change. If you need it to be done soon I would call and leave a message asap.

I have to agree. Now I did request some forms be sent to me via PM, because I hadn't received the email that I was told was going to be sent to me.

I did end up getting that email directly from Disney with the forms on the 30th, which is the day they closed or 5 days after they closed, depending on who you talk to.

So yes it is a huge communication issue going on. Especially when the higher ups seemed as if they couldn't make up their mind if they were selling them, not selling them and then going ahead with selling some bricks.

From my calls and e-mails, I get the feeling that someone OK'd the selling of bricks, and Roger, Denise, and Dean went to work. Once things started to explode, I think someone above them said "you're doing what?" or something like that and halted the program. The 25th may have been an arbitrary cutoff date. I may not have had anything to do with the number of bricks - someone else has put a stop to the program.

Once the problem of having already charged people came up, they probably thought about it and agreed to honor those that were charged but not proceed any further.

I don't know how many blank bricks there are, but I don't think they were that rare from what I remember. I'll look around next month to get an idea (don't know if anyone is going sooner).

Certainly Disney could be giving more information, and at least an apology for those who missed the program. Hopefully they can re-evaluate and allow the program to open again, at least to those who sent paperwork in.

Truthfully, it seemed awefully strange to re-open the program in the first place. It implies that they can't do anything with the walkway, at least major, for another 10 years. If it stayed closed, then in three years they could have torn it up and started over.

Back to a more general discussion: Was there ever a plan to have this walkway extend all the way around the SSL? Where the canal is between the end of the walkway from MK to GF, it looks as if there was an intent to have a bridge there - just something about how both walkways end a certain distance from the canal, and how it widens a bit.

At about $1200/sq.ft., you'd think the program could pay for itself.

I also want to say that ITA that Dean and Denise are not at fault in this... I agree that it seems to be a higher up decision and poor communication. Oh well.

I am almost hesitant to have our old brick re-done... god forbid they take it out, then suddenly decide that they are no longer re-doing them! I don't really feel that trusting of the Walk around the World program right now. I think I'll just keep it in and maybe someday they will re-open the program again.

I am sorry it came across that way...it isn't what I meant. I was lucky and got in the very first day this was posted...your right.

I shouldn't have said anything....I just think the internet/DIS response surprised them and they were not prepared to handle the large amount of requests...I felt bad for the couple of people working in the office...taking orders and not knowing there weren't any available.
You are all right...this wasn't handled well. I think they should offer all the people who paid a brick...there are lots of spaces still at the TTC....as I noticed on our last trip. It seems like they could try and accomodate eveyone.

again...sorry.

Disney-Kim I am curious....has anyone actually received their map and certificate yet?
i have been wondering the samething. Dean had said that the orders would be summitted last tuesday. wed. i got my email with my brick # and that i would receive a cert. & map. Im thing maybe 3 to 5 days for shipping.
maybe we will get something next week.

I am sorry some people didnt get a brick, im still sending pixie dust:wizard:
and i hope things didnt get out of control with the forwarding of the brick form to other dis members and disney couldnt keep track and be in control on how many bricks orders they only needed to sell. Im sorry, im guilty of forwarding the brick form several times, but i didnt realize how this may have had an impact on the brick selling. lets hope for the best, who knows maybe disney will continue the walk all the way across the entry ways of the resorts:cloud9:

I am really confused....TheycallmeTiggs...did you end up getting one or not??? how do we really know?

I also have an email/number but no cert/map yet. so who is to say that any of us are really getting actual bricks...did I miss a post....:confused3

TheycallmeTiggs' application was faxed in on the May 25 and they received the certificate and map in the mail on, I believe, June 5th-6th, so we're talking about 2 weeks to receive your map and certificate from the date of order. Seeing that Tiggs got in so early, I wouldn't be surprised if it took longer for those of us who sent in their apps closer to the 30th to get their info, seeing how quickly the program took off once online and the confusion that followed.

The only problem is, my app was faxed in on the 25th as well, and I haven't received anything in the mail. I'm hoping it's just because it wasn't mailed until the "official" decision was made when I got the email last week, but at this point, I'm not counting on anything.
