Personal Use Question Out of Control?

So, I am 100% against commercial renting, but.....

Had a waitlist filled.....I thought it had so I asked chat to check. Had to consent to personal use for it to fill. I had asked if they could just tack the day onto the existing reservation, that was a no. So in order to do the merge request I had to confirm both parts of the existing reservations were for personal use....3 times in the matter of about 5 minutes.

Just part of doing DVC business at this point. Usually, it's just going to be the once and done while making the reservation. But if there are mods or reservation merging (like yours), we might have to confirm it again at times. If it really leads to a smidge more availability by eliminating some commercial renting, I'm ok with that. I'm just not clear on whether or not it will actually help with the problem!

Yes, but I literally said it was for personal use when they filled the waitlist and then had to say it for the same reservation again 1 minute later and then also for the 2nd part of the merge.....it annoyed me enough I cancelled the one night and just merged it myself lol.

I honestly don’t care at all…they can ask as much as they want.

I like consistency and I’d rather they are doing it every time then leaving it up to CMs, even if it is for each step of a transaction.

It’s like our local grocery store that requires ID for all alcohol purchase, no matter the age. They do it to protect the workers who are underage from having to make a determination.

On the phone it is quick (well other than listening to the pre-recorded part), but on chat no so much. I just found it overkill. I know why they do it, it just seemed a little ridiculous to ask if both parts of a split that were being merged were personal as well as the stay I had just been asked about a minute earlier.

My guess it’s that way to ensure the CMs don’t forget. Just ask or type it every time.

I have actually preempted them and added it to my answer when I request…ie: can you submit to have these merged and yes, I agree it’s for personal use. Lol

It's personal use if you are using the proceeds for personal use. If you are using the money to pay your MFs or using it to pay for a non DVC trip, those are personal use. If you are renting for a profit only, that is not personal use afaik.

Just for fun, I’ve wanted to select the other number for non personal booking when call, to see how it goes even if it’s my own booking. Seriously “Personal”.,”yes a person will be using the reservation”.

Sorry can you explain how you came up with this theory

In renting points for profit to use to pay for non dvc or any other reason, this is still not for personal use

Personal use suggests for my family or my close friends, not to stranger through website.

Pretty sure people interpret it different ways to suit the situation
