Personal check?

Hello - We have a room only reservation and have paid the one night deposit. We plan on paying the balance when we check in. Can I do this with a personal check (out of state) or should I plan on getting a certified check or travelers' check? Thanks!

I have paid by personal check a couple of times with no problem. They, obviously, verify the funds, but paying this way is fine.
