Pernell Roberts, 81, of "Bonanza" and "Trapper John, MD" dead from pancreatic ca

I did not watch Bonanza, however I did watch him as Trapper John MD. He did have an interesting history as far as being an activist back in the day.

RIP

Oh wow - and Michael Landon died of Pancreatic Cancer too. :sad1:

When I was in high school, my best friend and I loved Bonanza. :goodvibes She was an Adam girl and I was a Joe girl. She just pm'd me on Facebook that she's going to watch some Bonanza DVDs in his honor/memory tonight. He was an actor you could admire for standing up for what he believed in. He was a Civil Rights advocate and also served in the Marine Corps.

I wonder if the incidence of pancreatic cancer is higher among the Bonanza and/or Trapper John casts compared to the general population...

agnes!

:sad1: He was the last surviving member of the Bonanza cast wasn't he? What a shame.

I remember him well.. :( Bonanza was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid.. My best friend and I used to play Bonanza all the time way back in a wooded area on my grandmother's property.. There was a field in there - that looked so much like the scenes you would see on the show - with huge boulders to hide behind when we were having "shoot outs" against the bad guys and what-have-you.. She was always Adam and I was always Little Joe.. Gosh - that brings back memories..:sad2:

How ironic that he died from the same cancer that Michael Landon did.. Hopefully he passed quickly and without a lot of pain..

My thoughts and prayers are with his family..:(

I am so SICK of pancreatic cancer!! I wish I could kick the crap out of it. Michael Landon, Patrick Swayze, now him....and those are just some famous people. My dearest friend, who has been my best bud since we were 10 (we're both 41 now) has just been told he is no longer in remission with this monster. Of course, once you have this, it really is a death sentence. No cures for this miserable blight so now we are just waiting and he's in pain and I really hate pancreatic cancer.

Sorry..........

I read about this earlier in a mst3k forum I belong to since he was in a movie they riffed on . (San Fransisco International Airport). RIP :(

I just lost my dad a month ago. We had lived together for the past 10 years. My dad watched the "western" cable chanel non-stop.

So I saw a lot of Bonanza, Gunsmoke, Gene Autry, Roy Rogers, etc for the past decade.

I'm so sorry arminnie, I didn't know. Your dad must have been very special for you to be such a devoted and loving person.

agnes!

Back in his Bananza days, he was a thing of beauty. Catlike, mischievous face....so handsome. I loved him.

Thank goodness no. David Canary aka Adam Chandler on AMC is still alive and kicking. Though I found out they killed off Stewart and I'm still upset over that 1.(he played both twins):sad2:

Sorry..........

My husband's grandfather and a cousin died of it. It is a horrible disease. I pray all the time that no one else in our family gets it. It runs in families and I worry about my hubby and boys all the time.

Please don't ask me David played on Bonanza. I really don't know. I've just seen clips of the show and remember an interview with 1 of his AMC cast mates(Walt Willey/Jackson Montgomery) and Walt said when he first met David all he kept hearing in his head was the Bonanza theme:rotfl:

David Canary played Candy, the ranch foreman. He joined the cast after Pernell Roberts left.
