Tritoma-This is the botanical name that has been changed to Kniphofia, too many name changes and unpronounceable names for me. I think I'll just call them by their common name Red-Hot Pokers or Torch Lily. These flowers come in red, orange, yellow, pink and a cream color. Poker plants have a thick leafed day-lily type appearence. In the later spring tall spikes appear with flowers on the end of the spikes, this is what gives them a torch-like look. Poker plants like sun and ordinary soil. They grow to heights of 24 inches. These are very sturdy plants and are ideal for poor soil.

These are a great plant for a section that is extremely HOT and has lean soil. Examples are by dirt drives and hard to water sections. I have had several of these plants in a back portion of my planting area - and they have been good performers. I recently removed them - making way for a much bigger (new) project. ;)

All this plant information is SO interesting. And I so love having the pictures to look at too!

I wish I had tons of money and plenty of leisure time to do so many things that I would love to do in the garden..... and the house..... not to mention vacations.... you get the picture! :p :p
