Dicentra-Also called Bleeding Heart. These are very graceful perennials. With their arching stalks of drooping hearts. There are a few varieties. Some flower only in the spring, some flower the whole summer. They like a least 1/2 day of sun and a soil that is rich, light and moist. They range in heights of 8-24 inches depending on the species. The smaller ones look good in rock gardens.

Bleeding Hearts come in pink, red and white.

Bleeding Hearts

This is a plant that my mother has always grown... and I have never had (yet) because I have very few garden areas that support partial shade loving plants. My normal beds are just too hot and dry for bleeding hearts. However, I am adding new beds including one that is on the north side of my house - and has partial shade for a significant portion of the day. I am planting a bleeding heart on this side and keeping my fingers crossed that I can successfully grow this plant finally!

I have 2 pink and 1 white Bleeding Heart. They really are graceful, delicate looking plants, I love them! :)

Thank you Mamu! :)

Since we removed some trees my bleeding heart is in full sun and it just grows and grows and grows. We have hacked off pieces of it and transplanted them - in the shade garden it is fine, but not as huge as the sun one. It actually grows TOO BIG.

I have 2 of these on my back hill where I've been filling up with perennials, The hill is partial shade. I think they're beautiful! They're both pink.
