Pardon my ignorance, but I haven't been to DL since I was in 8th grade and we are planning a return trip for this Sept.! One of our favorite rides is the Peoplemover at WDW, but altho' the DL maps show something that looks like the Peoplemover I can't find it listed on any of the ride lists....I see the monorail, but no Peoplemover...is it there???

Sorry - the people mover became Rocket Rods in a ill fated tomorrowland makeover in the 90s. It shut down a few years later. The track is still there, but it is not an active ride.

There is no people mover at DL, unless it has appeared in the last week, the people mover is gone. They still have the people mover tracks, I believe and I know that Rocket Rod I believe used those tracks and Rocket Rod is gone. I loved the people mover at WDW, sad that it isn't at DL.

It's funny. I know many people on here have said they miss People Mover, but I never looked it up to see what it actually was. So I just You Tubed it, and now I'm so jealous for anyone who got to see that. That's just really cool. Can you imagine what it would look like today with our technology?

My first trip was a year after it closed... does anyone know why it was closed anyways?

Just out of curiosity I went and watched the youtube video...for those that haven't been to WDW, it's a very similar car and speed, just without the high railings or shades (the entire track at WDW is covered making it a lovely ride when it's raining)....I'm really sad that we won't be able to look forward to this ride at DL - it's our 'last ride of the trip' tradition, and it's even better when it's not busy and you can just stay on and ride 2 or 3 times in a row! Hopefully someday they will bring it back since the track is still there.

There are rumors of the Peoplemover tracks being rebuilt for some type of ride system but AFAIK there aren't any rumors of the Peoplemover itself returning.

I miss both the People Mover and the Skyway. My earliest memory is heading into the Matterhorn on the Skyway on my first trip to Disneyland.

This is a very sore-subject with us older Disney faithful. Rocket Rods was a lazy and cheap attempt to add a new attraction without doing the homework. If they had added proper banking and invested in a reliable ride system, we would at least be riding something in its place. Instead, the killed one of the best attractions ever to open at Disneyland and left us with a very visible and painful reminder of what use to be there....and NO new ride.

I'm hoping that with Carsland being such an obvious success that TDA uses it as an opportunity to revamp Tomorrowland. I know it would be painful for them to close the land down completely to do a complete overhaul, but it is pretty necessary at this point. There are massive pieces of real estate in this land that could be torn down to free up some large plots of land for updated, better attractions.

While Winnie the Pooh may not be such a popular ride, it has some obvious technological advantages over the older rides in Fantasyland. Look at all the new animatronics in RSR. This is basically a dark ride with thrill elements making up the final portion. Imagine if some of the technology from these 2 rides were to be utilized in a new Tomorrowland...

Tomorrowland is a shell of it's former self. There aren't enough rides in the land to justify how much space it takes up in the park. Space Mountain and Star Tours draw all the crowds. Leave those rides alone (and open) while gutting Innoventions, the Captain EO Theater, and Starcade. I might even suggest they bring back Adventures thru Inner Space with updated effects. That would be such a cool ride with today's technology!

It's my feeling that they haven't taken out the People Mover track simply because it can't be removed. The concrete structure is just too thick and has cured for so long that it may be as difficult to remove as the foundation for the Home of the Future. If that's the case then I think they should rebuild People Mover with updated scenery. All of the infrastructure is there. I don't understand why the track hasn't been used in so long.

Anyway, I don't expect any of this to happen. I just know that I'm not the only one wishing for them to update Tomorrowland.

I started a thread a while ago but I was told by a cast member that after the revamp of DCA they are planning a revamp of tomorrowland

There are knowledgeable insiders on other forums who suggest this could indeed be happening in the next few years. Whether or not it includes a revamp of the Peoplemover tracks I don't know.

Awesome!!! Here's hoping its true! It would be great to see some changes made in time for the 60th Anniversary!

I hope the do something with Tomorrowland and those tracks. They have been dead for so long.
However, I would like at least a year without walls please.
of course, that leaves the problem of the 60th Anniversary, which is not that far away and I don't know if Disney would want to have a whole land closed for that.

Peoplemover is one of our favorite rides at WDW, too. I also remember it at DL from my childhood. We definitley missed it when we visited DL!

If planned right they could refurn tomorrowland and re-open it for the 60th anniversary, actually it sounds like something Disneyland would do
